Is there a website that tells me which school district my kids belong to? Can I choose out of that district if other schools are preferred?

Hi CLASSIC_GRRL, and welcome to GreatSchools Parent Community. Just to be clear, a school district is a group of schools that all are under the same school board and superintendent. School boundaries are the zoning areas that each school has that determine attendance.

Depending on what school district you belong to, many do have websites that show local school boundaries. So if you know your school district, you can see if they have a "school finder" feature on their website to see what specific school you're zoned for.

As for whether you can choose out of that school boundary zone or out of your specific district will depend on a variety of issues, including whether your district will allow you to leave, and whether the other district allows transfers in and for what reasons.

A quick call to the school closest to your home would tell you if that's the school you're zoned for, and if not, they could likely tell you what school you're expected to send the kids to. If you ask them for the district website and/or phone number the district could explain inter-district transfer policies to you.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out.
