This is the best school in Milpitas school district. My son attended the school for two years but I can feel the difference on his academic progress. The teachers and parents have full involvement and you can see the results. Highly recommend if you are living in Milpitas.

My little Girl attends Mrs. Barber (Also known as Mrs. Hughes) class since grade 1. Now she is grade 2. We are very happy to have Mr. Barber as my daughter teacher for 2 years. Mr. Barber is a creative and charming teacher who can teach and lead little boys and girls to trigger their desire to learn. She is a great communicator with parents also. Every week, we receive her class letters to update class progression and news. It is also very lucky that grade 2 have many devoted parents who care about the education. Some of parents spend time to help grade home work or support some activities. Mrs. Barber classes are academic strong and also socially strong. We also are very happy to have Mr. Frascone as the principle of John Sinnott Elementary. He makes John Sinnott's teachers and administrators boost morale. School API just jump to 927 and become the highest elementary school API in Milpitas in 2013. Although I am not a fan of Golf or Football, I can feel his energy to want students to adopt healthy life style and have warm feeling in school.

My little girl attended Mrs. Hoeppner's class (kindergarten) last year and she loved it. Mrs. Hoeppner was strict, but was very attenative through one-on-one connection and hand-on experience with her students. She taught my daughter a lot of things among them are discipline and the importance of being on time at school. The only complain that I had is the drop off zone right in front of the school. The flow of traffic and the limited drop off zone does not allow efficient time for my kid to make it to class on time.

We just started this school but from day 1, my 1st grader is all smiles. He has been to several school, most recently from a private school and never have I seen him this happy! He has never showed this much enthusiasm and joy! With high API, I knew it wouldn't be a disappointment but I'm very surprised how much he likes it. Only complaint is that his teacher doesn't update her website like other teachers do. I wish she was more technically savvy and use her site to communicate to parents.

While Sinnott's API score was a 9 last year, there's a new principal who reaches out to parents (Mr. Frascone) vs. last year's principal who was fairly apathetic, the office staff is seemingly overwhelmed at the start and end of school, but has plenty of time to chat it up when class is in session, taking their SWEET TIME to attend to parents coming into the office with questions/concerns/etc. They weren't even chatting about school related business, mind you. My child has been at Sinnott for almost three years now. For the most part, I think most of the teachers are great. I haven't had any problems with the teachers. A big downside that compounds traffic and irritation from obnoxious students and surrounds the younger ones at the elementary school w/ negative examples is the nearby Rancho Middle School. While this review is of Sinnott Elementary, the schools adjoin and are separated only by a driveway/parking lot. The students from Rancho go over to the elementary school after they get out of class and shout obscenities and partake in disrespectful behavior towards one another ON Sinnott School grounds and notifying the front office staff did nothing! We hope to move soon!

My daughter has been attending this school for the last 2 years. We are very happy with the quality of education here. The teachers are experienced, sincere, and highly professional. The student body is a diverse mix of all social, ethnic and economic groups. There are variety of other extra-curricular activities for students as well. The PTA is also very active and organize fun filled events throughout the year. Comparing my child to other children who attend expensive private schools (read Challenger, Stratford etc.), I really don't see much difference overall. We are very happy with this school.

My Daughter has been attending Sinnot for the last 2 years and I should say that I am very happy with the teaching and the extracarricular activities this school has to offer. This year she has Mrs. Adrianne Barber as her second grade teacher. She is such a wonderful teacher!! Her ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both truly superior. She accomplishes these tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude. Talented and enthusiastic, she always finds new and creative ways to teach the most challenging material. At the same time she is very patient, encouraging and has a great sense of humor. My daughter has enjoyed each and every day this academic year , she looks forward to go to school which is such a surprise from a girl who used to look for reasonsnot to attend ... I can t recommend Mrs. Adrianne Barber enough..

Mrs. Cochrane is a great teacher. I'm glad that she's staying in 1st grade because I coudln't have asked for a better 1st grade teacher for my son when he was in 1st grade (2 years ago). After a bad year in kindergarten, we considered a private school nearby, but we thought we'd give this school another chance before we moved our son. That was the right decision. Mrs. Cochrane was a fantastic! She had the right combination of discipline with compassion and understanding, for an active 6 year old boy. She connected with him on what interested him personally. To this day, she is his favorite teacher. I couldn't have asked for a better 1st grade teacher for my son, and I hope my daughter will have her as her 1st grade teacher.

Mrs. Barber (2nd grade) is an excellent teacher. She is very creative and make fun environment for kids to learn naturally the best way of learning! I think kids in her class made great progress in both academically and socially, since her continual efforts to encourage children. In fact, Sinnott is a great school; they emphasize on learning but not spent too much time on improving testing scores (scores come naturally after good learning). I like Sinnott!

Our three kids have all gone to Sinnott. Most recently we have seen the most difficult of economic times hit our school system. But I can't say enough of the quality of the teachers dedicated to teaching and committed to do the best they can during this period to the extent that they shield the kids from the administrative issues. Very, very professional and knowledgeable teaching staff. Very safe environment for our kids.

This is our first year with a child at Sinnott Elementary. We've only had a month of experience with the school, but so far, so good. I'm adding this review primarily as a counterpoint to the two reviews below indicating that the current principal, Ms. Espino, is unapproachable and condescending. I've had reason to have a couple of extended personal interactions with her regarding our child, as well as a few group interactions, and I've found her to be VERY approachable and not at all condescending. Her constant emphasis has been on a collaborative approach to the education of children at Sinnott, involving parents as a very important part of the process. I'm new to public education as a parent, and Ms. Espino (and other staff) have been very available and helpful in providing me information regarding the content and process of public education these days.

Sinnott's been an excellent school. Most of the teachers my child has had have been top notch. This year, I rank it very poor, not because of the teachers but because of the prinicpal. Because it's her first year here, one would think she would develop a rapport with the parents but she's been unapproachable and is totally different from last year's administrator who was very personable . I know many parents who feel the same. How unfortunate!

I've loved this school and the teachers ever since my daughter started kindergarten.....but this year is totally different. I feel that we and our daughter have been let down by both the administration (principal) and the teacher this year. The start of the year was a disaster and there was a complete lack of communication. The administration has not been able to get ahold of to discuss matters and is condesending when they do. I'm very diappointed in how this school year is going. The previous principal Ms. Anderson was great!!! It's too bad we lost her to S. Calif.

The School is basically great. The new pricipal Miss Anderson has been very active, but unfortunatly she is also very rigid in her leadership. Most if not all the office staff left when she took over. I have found her to be robotic in her personality, and demeanor. She is already leaving after one year. Things should be better with new leadership. It cannot get much worse.

What a difference a year makes! Both myself and my husband have seen a tremendous improvement in the environment at Sinnott since Ms. Anderson took over as Principal. Both she and the new Vice Principal are very much involved in the day to day activities of the children as well as the overall progress of the school. From voicemail updates/reminders, to new drop/off pick/up safety measures, to parent/child afterschool programs, Sinnott has come a long way. My children are happy, enthused and eager to come to school now. The Principal and VP are always visibly around, available and checking in on the children and school activities. The teachers appear to be more involved and excited about the school as well and this makes for happy, well-educated students. Kudos to the staff at Sinnott and thanks for a wonderful year!

Sinnott School has come a long way in just one year. I'm so glad we got a new Principal. The school was in a rut before and teacher morale was low, mainly due to administration. From volunteering at the school, I see such a big difference and I'm glad. Happy teachers make happy students, which make happy parents. I think the administration and the teachers work hard and really care for our kids. Thank You!!

My daughter is attending Mrs. Barber's 2nd grade and it has been a great experience. Her teacher is one of the best I've seen. My daughter gets a lot of personal attention and she is excited to talk about school when I come home from work. I think thats a very positive sign. Mrs. Barber has had a very positive impact on my daughter in the 7 months she has been there.

Sinnott has very high API marks in comparison to some of the other neighborhood schools, the high marks however, have more to do with the parents who are well educated and able afford to live in pricey neighborhood. Despite the high taxes we pay here, our son's class did not have enough text books to go around and the teacher had to make copies for half the class. The office staff has a bad habbit of losing forms, files and papers. Classrooms average 36 students per teacher, too high. The school does offer a GATES program for gifted children, but again, forms are lost, test results have a way of disappearing and administrators are less than open to parent involvement in this regard. I have even heard one parent complain of partiality in that her child's scores were swapped with another child's. Parents must stay on top at all times!

My son has been a kindergatener and first grader at Sinnott Elementary School. I think the curriculum (kindergaten / first grade) are pretty good, although sometimes can be very challenging. I don't know much about the music and art programs, but I think my son (who's currently in first grade) gets adequate exposures to PE/sports. I feel that the level of parent involvement is alright. I know there are parents who volunteer to help grade homework, assisting in field trips, and projects, etc.

Sinnott elementary is an incredible school taught of a highly qualified and professional staff. The staff participates in regular trainings, collaborates on ongoing improvements, and works to meet standards while developing well rounded students. Students participate in an Art Docent program, physiccal education, a televised school broadcast, and many enriching activities. Parents are highly involved by supporing their children at home, volunteering in the classroom, and participating in a PTA and vitural PTA. Sinnott is a wonderful place for children to learn.

My child had kindergarten and now first grade at Sinnott. I had heard that Sinnott was one of the top 3 elementary schools in the district. I would not rate it as such. Sinnott has far too many children for the number of teaching and administrative staff. There is no vice principal and the nurse is shared with other elementary schools. My child was involved in an incident and sent to the office. I was not going to be notified until a few days later. A parent must be right on top of everything. There are ample opportunites for parents to help in the classroom. There are extracurricular activities at the school through other companies after school for a fee. My child has found them fun. Most of the 1st grade teachers are new (2nd year teaching). With budget cuts, we provide most of the classroom supplies.

One of the better elementary schools in the city. A big problem with this problem (as well as all the other schools in the district) is the constant shifting around of princicpals. All in all, not a bad school.

We had an amazing 2004-2005 year with our son in fourth grade. The school and its staff were always willing to go the extra step to make sure he had a fun learning experience. We knew that he was safe and being well cared for. He improved so much during the past year from his previous year at another academically highly rated school in Southern California. I only wish that more schools had this staffs dedication, and resources, to making sure that all children receive the education they deserve.

Sinnot Elementary is the top academically performing school in the Milpitas School dstrict. Sinnot students have parents that are very involved with their children's education. Sinnot has an API of 850. The students represent a rainbow of ethnic origins. The teachers are excellent and quite young. Most of teachers hold masters degrees. Sinnot Elementary offers Chess, Spanish, painting, and other extracurricular activities. Sinnot offers a safe environment surrounded by beautiful hills and close to major work centers in the Silicon Valley.

Sinnott has great general and special education teachers who are well-educated and pass on their knowledge to their students in effective and exciting ways. Their academic programs promote educational advancement, and their extracurricular activities promote well-rounded abilities. Parents are encouraged to be involved in every aspect of their child's education.
