Mt. Shasta High School is located in a beautiful area, with Shastice park just a short walk away. The athletics program is good in some areas, yet suffers in others. The soccer team has won league 4-years running as of this review, and the ski/board team is almost always ranked 1st in the state. The football team is the worst out of the sports teams. Academically, the school is quite well off. Because of the low number of students there aren't a large amount of AP or advanced classes, which isn't a problem for college entrance competition since it's relative--many students getting into high end colleges like Stanford and Berkeley-- but if you want college credit, or a large amount of classes, look elsewhere. Since the school is small you build a personal relationship with many of your teachers, which can be good or bad, depending on your preferences. Some teachers teach well, but some aren't good teachers; they are just knowledgeable about their field of study. I give MSHS an "above average" rating, but I might be a bit biased because I dislike crowds and big events. The small town style of the school was perfect for me. If you like big schools though, I wouldn't prefer it.
Mount Shasta High scooh is small. The student participation is very low and the school has very little spirit, if any. This is not a fun school with allot of activities. My child was a student there and although he did well, it was a strugle finding teachers that cared and were there to help the kids. In all my years associated with education, I have never come across a high school with such a low energy level by both the students and faculty. The number of independent study students is a real reflection of what's going on in this school. Check out the teachers education level and were they came from. There is very little outside influence and improvement going on from year to year. Beautiful place to live but I would not recommend moving here if you need a good high school for your kids.
i love my school very much, and everything in it! My teachers are doing a VERY great job, and so are all the other staff members! I love MSHS!!! Mt. Shasta Bears for life!
Highest rated in California north of Davis!!!!! <---woohooo oh and mr.K and mrs.V =awesome teachers
My son attended Mt Shasta High for three years. My over all experience with the school was good. Public school perks with private school atmosphere.
I am a student at MSHS and it is in my opinion, a great school. Teachers are awesome and a lot of help. Classes are small and really fun. Great sports/music/drama/language/and other acedemic opportunities.
Good school. Crazy community. Great fine arts.
Our child has attended MSHS for 2 years. Made scholar/athlete both years for good grades and participation in sports. Math/science teachers have been disappointing, even discouraging, for different reasons. Great music opportunities. The charter schools, homeschools, and California proficiency exam exitors, are growing in numbers.
My oldest son is a Junior at Mt. Shasta HS. I am very pleased with the education and sports experience he has had. Wonderful school. He is suppossed to go to McCloud HS, but I chose this school for him, which was a wise choice.
Great cross country team. Students well behaved and generally very nice to each other. Ski and Board teams have been successful. Very good math program. Chemistry and Physics teacher challenges students.
