Overall terrible school. Bad teachers, lunches, campus, and principal. I had the worst years of my life in that school.
Please take the time to visit the school, speak to the staff including the principal, and take a tour so that you can make an informed opinion. The standards by which the students at Walnut are taught, are the same standards all students in the district are taught. Ask about bullying prevention. Ask about the curriculum. Ask about supplemental programs such as music, art, computers, and PE. Look at the dates of the reviews. Look at test scores, and remember that California expects schools to hit 800. Anything over that is exceptional. Keep in mind that staffing, including administration changes over time. Be diligent in your questionning and keep an open mind.
It is sad when the schools policy is as long as the kids are making some progress they are doing fine in school. Can you imagine if we all potty trained our children according to this theory? Apparently test scores have gone up but that's because the standards have gone down. The teachers are great but have their hands tied. The standards for private school are much higher, to bad they aren't affordable. Beware of the bullies at this school according to the teachers there are non according to the students and parents there is a problem.
Amazing faculty and staff. Impressive hands on principal. My daughter has been going there since Kindergarten; she is now in Fifth grade. She has advanced academically and socially. I know we are very lucky to be in the conejo valley unified school district. The community of parents at this wallnut school is very involved. I feel we look out for each others kids. The score at Walnut has been an 8 for the last 5 years I'm hoping it will go to a 9 this year. I also need to mention the teachers at Walnut continue to grow themselves by reading, staying up with what is going on in the world, and they look at ways to help improve their teaching skills for the benefit of our students.
I have to drop the rating down some as one of my sons has been suffering from the same group of bullies for over a year now. The discipline of this group has been ineffective and they have escalated their harassment. School officials have down played the harassment so far...
This is the best school my daughter has been too. She loves all here teachers and enjoys showing up everyday.
This is an exceptionally operated Elementary School. The staff is friendly, helpful and tactful. A little improvement on securing the grounds would help me sleep better.
My son attended Walnut from 1st through 3rd grade. We hate to leave (work). The office staff and the teachers all work beautifully together. The PTA gives enormous support to the students and teachers. My son has special needs and this school, collectively, gives him every opportunity and tool for success. We've been able to bring him up to grade level in every subject, including reading. They have regular art, music and PE, which is rare these days. Campus supervisors really keep a watchful eye during recess and lunch times. This is a great school!
My two children have had the best education here, with great teachers who really care, in a diverse environment.
I was very concerned to find a good school in this neighbourhood when we moved from Orange County. My son goes to kindergarten. I am very satisfied with the school. They are making very good progress. The teachers in my sons class are great. They take individual care of all the students. Keep up the good work!
Walnut is a good school. teachers care about the kids. The API scores for the school are o.k. academics is the main focus and I wish it was a little more concerned with social development.
Walnut offers the best of all worlds. Because of a moderate number of lower income students, resources allocated to the school are high, yet the typical student is a strong performer. Evidence of the allocation is seen in areas like the learning-center comptuter lab, in which Walnut features the best, newest, and largest in the district. My wife and I are quite happy and would recommend the Walnut experience to anyone.
