I'm having a problem with my sons teacher Mrs. Harrison, I have request four times to have my son's seat changed and she has not done it. My Son was having problems in that class he used to come home sad and say stuff like "I'm not smart anymore" or he would say "I'm not your good boy". I was so worried about his overall behavior in class I meet with his teacher Mrs. Harrison, we discussed his behavior in class and his overall performance. By the end of our meeting I was lead to believe that his seat would be moved, after requesting. That was two weeks ago and still nothing. Im planning on having a meeting with the Principal next week. I will keep this site updated.

This is our first year at Carl Munck. My daughter is in Kindergarten and we came from a unique situation. She attended preschool - and I thought she was learning at a normal pace, but to my surprise, when I enrolled her in K, she was far behind and not to mention, she was a younger 4 year old starting kindergarten. I can't tell you how pleased, thankful, and incredibly grateful for my daughters K teacher! The amount of time that this teacher spends with her students and going to the extra mile to ensure that my daughter and other students are learning and understanding the material is beyond itself a great deed. The parent involvement is incredible, all the parents know all the names of their child's classmates, there's a dads club that is very active and also plans a lot of the schools activities. I was so worried about my daughter's first year in K, but I was easily put at ease once we got to Carl Munck. I highly recommend this school.

Good school. I have two children enrolled in the 1st and 3rd grades. Both are learning very well and I have seen improvement over the last 4 years since my son (3rd grade) started in Kindergarten. There is an overwhelming feeling of community and as a parent, a great sense of responsibility to be more involved. Mrs. Burroughs (Principle) has encouraged parent involvement as she understands that children's education doesn't start or stop at school, but at home. The Dads club at the school has a large number of Fathers there that are involved as well. This really is a good school.

My son is completing kinder this year and he is very happy and thriving at the school. There is diversity among staff and families. They make it a point to expose children to different cultures in the classroom and schoolwide. They integrate kids with diabilities in the mainstram classroom which give the kids an appreciation for all. Teachers know all the kids by name, the afterschool program is wonderful and has a variety of activites. The kids know other students from different grades. There is an overall community of caring at the school. The principal has always been cordial and greets me when I am there. The school is bright with work from students posted all over the hallways, clean and inviting. My son is doing well academically....he can read and write well. I am very happy with the Carl B and all it offers to my child.

My son attends this school. The teachers are great. They are very caring and dedicated. They really are the best in Oakland Unified. The PTA is up and coming. It s sad that they lack leadership from the principal. She is not easy to talk to. Her office door is rarely open and when it is she either does not have time for you or tries to bully you. Instead of trying to bring the school together, the principal continues to use the excuse it s a commuter school that s why we cannot have a community . I believe she is truly the down fall of our school and why the school test scores have flat lined.

Our son just started Kindergarten at Carl B. Munck and we're pleased with the warm and welcoming school community. Great teachers and a growing PTA and a very inclusive philosophy when it comes to student needs and differences.

My daughter is finishing up her sixth year at Carl B. Munck. Overall, my wife and I have been very pleased with the education she has received since Kindergarten. Our school has a staffed library, Computer Center and computers in almost every class roon as well, Chess Club, multiple grade level afterschool programs, on site speech counselor and 4 day a week sociologist. We are one of the more fortunate elementary schools in the Oakland school district. To achieve the maximum from this or any school, parental participation is almost mandatory. Our PTA puts on various events during the school year and it help bring together the school community which has more than 50% of it's students coming from non-local neighborhoods in Oakland. Our state test achievement scores are just below 800 and everyone expects the school to reach that benchmark in the next year or two. A chool to consider.

This is one of the better schools of Oakland. The staff is great! Teachers, parents, and staff are all very involved. Munck has so much to offer and have great afterschool programs. It is very diverse. You won't be dissapointed, here at Munck.

We're going to miss our Munck family, since my younger son will be in middle school next fall. Older son had only one year at Munck in the first year of the autism spectrum inclusion program. We didn't expect him to be ready for middle school, but the teachers and staff were just incredible, and he thrived and surprised us all! Younger son started kindergarten in our neighborhood school, which was a terrible experience, so he was moved to Munck, and once again, we found wonderful, dedicated teachers and staff, families who wanted the best for the kids and put their time energy and hearts into making the school the best possible place. Like I said, we're going to miss our Munck family.

I think the school is good environment for learning but not all of the teachers are qualified. They may have the required certifications but not the dedication to each of the students. Kindergarten is such an important year for the children and more attention needs to be paid to that curriculum. I appreciate the principals involvement and she has been responsive to our needs.

I must say I am very very happy to have my child as a student at Carl B Munck. As the parent of a Kindergartener I did not know what to expect, my first proper school, my only child. I was blown away and excited to see how the Parents of the students take their education very serious, I mean very strong parent participation. The teachers expect each student to excel, and the Principle is all I can say is awesome, she expects every child to rise above and excel. I am very grateful, happy and proud to have my child as a student at Carl B. Munck

Carl Munck is awesome. I have two children at Munck. There is great communication between parents, teachers, staff, and student. The Carl Munck Community works together as a whole to develop our children to achieve their highest potential. The Monthly Parent Meeting are very informative.

I have 2 sons at Munck the past 2 years. Teachers & principal are great! They have chess club, YMCA participation at he afterschool program, basketball, football & track teams. They teach the kids how to develop websites. Tons of parent participation, parent nights all the time. Family fun days. School is small and it seems like all the teachers & office staff knows all the kids. It's like a little community. I'd highly recommend this school to anyone!

Everyone at Munk works hard to assist the children function their best. The office staff is always nice and helpful. As a new parent to this school I would say Munk doing the best they can with little to no help from the district.

Carl Munck is one of the most academically challenging schools in Oakland. The Principal and teachers all strive to provide the students with support, structure, and enriched curriculum. I believe that they're motto is 'No Child Left Behind.' Carl Munk also offers extra curricular activities such as chess, music classes, foreign language, and entails an after school program that offers tutoring with homework. Carl Munck is A+ on my list!

This is our third year a CBM. What has changed is we have a new principal and the jury is still out in this regard. What hasn't changed are the dedicated teachers! The children this year appear to be more disrespectful to the staff and faculty. The school needs more parent partipation. It has great potential if we could only get more parents involved! The same wonderful parents who are all members of the CBM Parent Faculty Club do much needed volunteer work which benefit the students. (I'm not one of them, but I volunteer when possible!) Physical education is taught by the teachers, but there is much talk about adding a PE instructor, but it's all part of the funding and OUSD is in the red! Test scores have improved over the years too!

My son has attended for the last 3 years, it was academically challenging in the beginning, but fell short last year. They have since gotten a new principal who has introduced more activities for learning and after school. She has a ways to go, but with support she is well on her way to reforming the school to its full potential.

Devoted teachers, small classes, great diversity. For some reason neighborhood parents are reluctant to put their kids in this school, which boggles my mind. Parents who are active and participants in their child's education have kids who do well. That is the difference between this school and Redwood Heights: lack of parent involvement. So join us and participate and not only will the scores go up, so will property values!

We were hesitant to reenroll our second grader but glad we did. His teacher is just wonderful. The school has lower test scores compared to the school down the hill but we have learned that it's the teacher that makes the difference in the child's learning. The staff in the office are just wonderful and friendly. Our son enjoys school.

My child has been at Munck for 3 years now. Since starting from Kinder, we've had a great experience, but have put a lot of time into the school as well. The staff there, I feel is excellent--all bring a wealth of experience to the school. We are a 'Title I' school as well as have 'inclusion programs.' This makes our community very diverse, we also are connected with the Hintel preschool and precare/aftercare community center on our grounds which is Native American based program. We have a small music program which you can only enter at 4th grade. There is no afterschool programs other than Chess club which is well attended. We have supplemental art 1 hr/wk. There is a core group of parents involved which needs to change and we are continually trying to enlarge our parent involvement successfully. New principal to start 05/06, haven't met her yet.

Excellent principal, dedicated faculty and staff and an increased involvement by the parents. Overall scores have increased steadily. Munck is one of the few schools in the system with a computer lab, library, music group, chess group as well as special programs dedicated to target groups of students.

About this school

Carl B. Munck Elementary is a diverse learning community located in the Oakland Hills. Currently an Arts Anchor School, we have a grant to support our students' natural creative talents, which has recently led to the creation of three school-wide murals, and provides various performing arts opportunities throughout the year. We offer on-site library services, a technology media center, a dedicated math technology lab, physical education, art instruction, instrumental music in the fourth and fifth grades, with song flutes for third graders, and a wealth of other cultural activities. An active Parent Teachers Association (PTA) and Dad's Club aligns itself with the school's vision to provide fundraisers, programs and activities such as the Annual Walk-a-thon, Fall Harvest Dance, Valentine's Dinner Dance, Silent Auction, School Production, Multi-cultural Night, and Family Fun Day. AspiraNet STRIDE, an afterschool program closely aligned to the school day program, is partially funded by 21st Century and OFCY grant funds, and provides homework/tutoring assistance, computers, arts and crafts, choral music, gardening, leadership, respect and responsibility, sports, physical education, and other enrichment opportunities.
