My son attended Head-Royce grades 6-12. He attended a public elementary school. We wanted a school that would challenge him academically and intellectually, and give him a place to shine. Head-Royce met all of our expectations. Our son was intellectually challenged every step of the way. From course and extra-curricular options, to music and other fine art opportunities, the experience was fantastic. The most important thing I can say about the benefits of Head-Royce is this: the teachers are absolutely top-notch. I think all have Master's degrees and many have Ph.Ds. They are dedicated, extremely intelligent, enthusiastic, and well-liked. There is no grade inflation, though, so If you have a child who isn't into working hard, HRS is probaly not a great choice. The kids are very happy socially, too. My son is now at college (Ivy) and speaks to HRS friends almost daily.I can only say good things about HRS.
Very good school with many excellent teachers, great facillity, small class size. High school is very academic with many bright students so very competetive.
Small class size (14-18) provide a great environment for learning. Lower school is not overly academic. Middle school is quite academic. High school is very academic with many teachers with advanced degrees and very college preparatory oriented. Most teachers really care about the students and generally do a great job.
We have had three children at this school and for two of them the experience was (and is) that of a top notch education. Nothing is perfect, but the school has a long tradition of knowing how to teach, how to give students an appreciation for learning, and has an open-minded staff and faculty that is in general responsive to student's needs and parent's desires. Our eldest child did well at HRS (the college guidance service is excellant-all schools should be so lucky!) and gained admittance to a wide variety of colleges. Yes the traffic may be a small problem, but in this day and age of childen being shuttled almost everywhere by car or bus - I know of few schools where this is not an issue.
Generally very good lower school (k-5) with k not very academic. 1st and 3rd grades are very good with excellent teachers. Great facilities. Some traffic problems.
