Choosing Assumption for our daughters has been one of the best choices my husband and I have ever made. We applied to several Catholic schools in the area, and we were really impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and the caliber of students graduating from ABVM. The parish and school are both led by hard-working, faith-filled individuals who are leading the ABVM community in such an amazing direction. In addition to the stellar academics, the students are really respectful and hard working. There has been an increase in the number of extra-curricular activities offered at the school, too, from chess to skateboarding. The community has really supported the school, raising enough funds to have SmartBoards in every classroom and a pilot program for some classes featuring iPads starting in Fall 2012. If you are open to a Catholic education for your children, Assumption is probably one of the best places to put your kids and your money in the entire San Gabriel Valley.
Continuation to most recent post (After having our children previously enrolled) Myself and our children are catholic yet since we've been in the different educational environments our children have not been involved in the church as much as I would have liked, this has not been a problem for them. They were accepted and throughly enjoying the religious instruction. As a matter of fact in one of child's class ,there are several non-catholics, which has never presented itself as a problem. In other words: All our welcomed! Our only regret is that we did not find this wonderful school earlier in our children education.
Assumption made it possible for my child to get into his #1 choice for high school. The staff is caring and helpful and the principal is a great administrator that gets amazing things accomplished.
Assumption is an amazing school! I have 2 boys and they excel academically and socially. The teaching staff is wonderful. They are very approachable and always concerned about the children's well being. I would highly recommend this school both for the academic and the community. It feels like a home away from home.
ABVM is an awesome environment for the kids! It's an environment that achieves results in academics and beyond. Our son is in his 5th year at the school and he is developing into a fine young man. His growth is attributable in great part to the school and its teachers and wonderful staff.
This school is amazing! It is only my third year here and both my children are excelling in class and on the sports field. My son struggles as a reader and they were able to give him the confidence he needed to succeed. He is now in 4th grade and reading Harry Potter without prodding.
Assumption is a great school with dedicated, highly-qualified teachers. Parents are very involved. An excellent religious education program (starting with pre-K) is offered on Sundays which includes preparation for Holy Communion and Confirmation. Class sizes are 35 or below; and for grades K-4 there's a teacher and an aide, as well as parent volunteers for art, computers, drama, library, etc. The school has a brand new science lab. The Youth Group does a lot of community outreach, as do the rest of the students. Graduating students score highly on entrance exams and get accepted to academically challenging high schools. Few schools can boast about 1) their basketball team playing at the Staples Center in the CYO Finals and 2) being first in Deanery in the Academic Decathlon and 3) having an awesome pastor (Fr. Gerard O'Brien) and principal (Ms. Christine Hunter)but Assumption can!
ABVM is the best kept secret in Pasadena! I am a teacher in the public schools and what I see my children learning in the lower grades in comparison to the public schools or many of our local private schools is incredible. When my husband called many of the local high school counselors to see how prepared are the Assumption children. They all said that the Assumption children do extremely well in comparison to the other children. Also, they stated that the Assumption children test higher on the H.S. entrance exam. Parent involvement is required. The teachers are great, the principal is incredible and Father Gerard is supportive. We're very happy.
Assumption students score above national averages. The school is small--one class per grade. Parent involvement is strong. Faculty and staff seem competent and dedicated. The only significant short-fall is the lack of a foreign language program. The school could also benefit with the addition of a hands-on science lab. My daughter traversed K thru 8 at Assumption and absolutely loves the school, its teachers and staff.
Assumption has a great program ! Their academics are extremely strong , and their 8th graders get accepted to academically challenging schools every year ! Their decathlon team is amazing. The sports at Assumption are mind boggling ! The kids are not placed under a load of pressure , have fun , and perform at an unbelievable standard. This year the Varsity Boys Basketball Team made it all the way to the CYO finals at Staples Center. Football , volleyball, and track are also very successful ! The community is very down to earth , no snobbiness at all. There are many parent activities and opportunies to help out. Assumption has instilled great qualities in my children , and I encourage you to check it out !
