I left a GATE program and a top school (over 900 api) in the district for Sac Prep. If you are looking for high academic rigor and not just passing the STAR test (no boiler plate learning here) this is the school. This is run like a private school yet is public. Small class sizes (no more than 25 in each class) happy teachers who want to teach and school leadership who has been with the school since the start. This school is NOT for those who are NOT committed to high academic standards and respect of others-Bad behavior or disrespect will NOT be tolerated. This school is about high academic standards challenging enriched curriculum, small class sizes, long school days, integrity, respect and preparation for the future. The focus is not on are you going to college? but instead which college are you going to? There is a strong free after school tutoring program for children that need assistance in addition to an afterschool program and Sac State student homework helpers. Now located in Greenhaven it is clear this school will soon be the academic powerhouse for SacCityUnifed. Enrichment programs are forthcoming. If you want private, but not the cost here is your school
By most accounts, the school was a lot better as a middle school when they were just a 5th through 8th grade school. They grew this year to K-8 and I guess they can't handle it and dont have the money for it. There aren't really enrichment programs, like afters school music, drama, tech or arts. They laid off the art teacher, there is no tech program, the regular teachers are overwhelmed, and classroom management is a problem. Most of the teachers at the school are new to the school. The principal, it is his first year as principal. My son is behind, and there is almost no help for students who fall behind. Parents were told that technology was a highlight of the school , that this was important to the principal, but it took until about half way into the year to even get the new address of school on the web site and to get a site that has student grades and some homeowork on it...still not all. The calender is still from the 2010-11 academic year. They claim it is money, but I wonder if they have the right leadership.
This is a great school. My child has been attending since 5th grade. She has learned so...much since attending and has gained a tremendous amount of self-confidence. The staff at this school really care about the children and expend their own personal time to ensure each child's educational goals are met. Thank you to the faculty for a job well done!
Sol Aureus College Preparatory is a great school-a small school with a lot to offer. Principal, teachers and staff are very generous in giving extra time for their students even if this will cost them something. They care a lot for their students and I am so proud that my child have been a part of SAC Prep.
I love this school because my son enjoys coming to school & he is excited to learn. The special attention paid to each student, I appreciate. Most importantly, teachers actually keep in contact with you to ensure your child is performing to his potential. They also allow parents a more active roll than most PTA groups.
A small school with a lot to offer in the preparation of children for college. This is our second year at the school. My children are currently in 6th and 7th grade. The school is focused on discipline, accepting responsibility, respect of each other, daily preparation, and effort (giving one's best). Funds have been limited for traditional extracurricular activities. However, through parental involvement, the children have enjoyed winter and spring dance and song performances, skate nights, spaghetti dinner, day in the snow, hanging at the beach, trips to tour colleges, and other field trips. An excellent alternative.
I have 2 grandchildren at KIPP Sacramento. One has been there since 5th grade and will graduate in June from the 8th grade. I am very appreciative of the goals of this school. I believe we need more of this type of school in the Sacramento area. I would recommend this school to any parent.
My husband and I were looking for a school that was not about just getting your child to the next grade. We came across Sol when they first opened up in 2003, and we have no regrets on our decision. Our oldest son will be a part of his first 8th grade graduates. Sol challenges their minds. Sol is a hard school, and I say that proudly. They don't make it easy for the students because they teach the kids life is not easy. They are preparing them for life beyond high school and college. No school is perfect, but Sol is a blessing. I recommend that any parent who has a child that is struggling bring their child to Sol. You can take your child out of Sol, but trust me, you will bring them back. The quality of eduaction they recieve most parents have to pay for.
This is the worst school I have eve sent my children to! They are very very unorganized!
