Charter School of San Diego gave our son a "second chance" in high school. Mrs. Chung believed in him and saw his potential. She was more than patient and encouraged him to succeed. Being given the freedom to work at his own pace taught him what he was capable of achieving. He decided to take the CHSPE last October. Mrs. Chung provided valuable advice for taking the test and our son passed it. We are grateful for the opportunities The Charter School of San Diego offered.

I strongly recommend The Charter School of San Diego to anyone who wants a good education. I loved the fact that it was independent study and that the environment was perfect for concentrating on school work. The teachers are helpful and the work is very doable! If you want to succeed as well as graduate and work at your pace, this school is right for you!

The Charter School of San Diego is a great school. The learning center is nice and quiet and has all the resources I need. My teacher (Ms. Brown) always provides me with helpful study links, school events, and important test dates. She also provides help whenever I need it and this has allowed me to excel in my courses. Overall the Charter School of San Diego is a great school and I'd highly recommend it to all my friends.

I cant express how fortunate my Son is to be in this school. Learning is actually possible here as opposed to traditional public school setting. The Jr High school in our area was overwhelmed with troubled students and understaffed. This left no room for well behaved student to get academic help. I was even turned away by the student counselor when I sought help for my sons failing math grades. Now my son is actually learning and excelling, Thanks to the limitless help and great dedicated teachers.

The Altus Institute charter school at UTC is my favorite school of the ones i've been to, the teachers are communicative and eager to help, the work is interesting and the 1 subject-at-a-time curriculum lets me focus on what i'm learning.

The North Park site at the Charter School of San Diego has helped me out a lot since I first got here. My grades have improved and the teachers were a big help too. I love this school because not only are all the teachers helpful and take their time to work with each student and help them understand but that there's no disruptions so it's easy to get work done faster. I really recommend coming to this school to improve your grades and earn credits faster.

The Charter School of San Diego is one of the best schools i have bin in because not only is it self learning witch shows responsibility and character but it also has a CA Cadet Corps program. CA Cadet Corps is a military based program that not only encourages leadership but also demands school work and grades to be passing if not high than passing.

My school is amazing because I get to be a part of California Cadet Corps. My favorite part about being a Cadet is earning the ranks and learning new things, doing PT, being apart of the color guard, and making friends with other Cadets.

My school is amazing because they let me be a part of CA Cadet Corps, a military based program that teaches me and the other Cadets leadership skills and military knowledge that will help me if i want to join the military (which I do). I love that the program is so similar to the military and it keeps me physically fit and i get to move through all the different ranks.

The Charter School of San Diego is an amazing place to attend school! I like the small classroom environment and the one-on-one help. You can take your time on a class and finish at your own pace. I highly recommend attending the Charter School. The students also have computers available and this classroom is stocked with art and school supplies. My teacher and the teachers assistant are also pretty amazing. This school also has an ROTC program available and the teachers have provided me with great opportunities to become a better person outside of school as well as in school.

I have very much enjoyed my time here at this Altus location in North Park, so far. The teachers and staff is very friendly and helpful and shows much concern towards your choice in career and other future endeavors and to kids like me, that means a lot. The Charter School of San Diego offers a great education at a good convenience So it works out with people who run a tight schedule, the only things that need improving are the supplies in textbooks.

The Charter School of San Diego is a school that cares about its students, its staff, and the community. Students are given individual attention in small classroom environments, with work designed for their level of knowledge and growth. Staff is supported by an extensive network of leadership, continually challenged to grow and learn more about the art and craft of teaching, and respected by their peers.

Paradise Valley Learning Center...I strongly recommend The Charter School of San Diego to everyone! This independent study school environment is very nice. My teacher is Mrs. Marron, she is always making sure that I don't fall behind with my work and helps me stay ahead instead. She is always available when I need help. She encourages me to be positive and keeps me on track. I just started here, but I already know I want to graduate from here. All the teachers are very helpful and willing to help even if they are not your assigned teacher. If you need help you can ask any teacher and you can get personal, one on one help. They wont ever let you fail! They wont let you get anything lower than a c. I actually enjoy coming to school now, before when I went to a regular school I used to ditch all the time. Some of my teachers never helped, They didn't care if you failed. I didn't care about my grades anymore neither did the teachers. Here you can choose when the best time for you to come in is. You do everything when you have time and at your own pace. The teachers have great plans to get into the best colleges or universities for your future. You want to succeed? Come to this Charter!

The Charter a School of San Diego is a fantastic school! My daughter has excelled academically and has been accepted to several Universities for fall. This school has prepared my daughter for college by teaching her time management skills, how to be organized and by being academically ready through the courses she has taken and successfully completed. I would highly recommend this school to a family that would like an alternative to the traditional schools and would like more attention from the teachers. The teachers are fantastic and really care about each student,

The Charter School of San Diego helps my daughter whenever I struggle through a school subject and doesn't let my child fall behind in her school work. The Charter School of San Diego is a great school for students who want to finish school on their own pace. People may think that this school is for drop-outs and delinquents but really all of them actually care about their future. The atmosphere is friendly and the students I've met aren't judgmental. The teachers are very caring and take time to teach you one on one. I have changed teachers three times but each one help me out significantly. I absolutely love this school! The curriculum is well balanced. The teachers in La Mesa go way out of their way to give one on one time to students. My daughter who already was a great student has excelled in Math and seems to look forward to completing each assignment; this is due to them not giving so much busy work but work that help her build knowledge that sticks. There is so much I can say about this school. The flexible hours work well for us and have been a motivation for my daughter to spend extra time at school working on projects. I think Charter School of San Diego is San Diego's best kept secret. Tell everyone to check it out, it has made all the difference in the world.

From day one Mrs. Debowski was wonderful. I was so tired of all of the issues with regular high schools. Here, my daughter had one main teacher, who was involved, called whenever there was anything to share (good or bad) and really cared about my child's education, well-being and future. I would highly recommend for anyone whose child is struggling with bullying, overwhelmed by the social aspects of high school or too many classes/ teachers/ administrators/ counselors/etc., to go to this school. Your child should be self-motivated and responsible to be successful in this program, since most of the classes are independent study.

Run away! This is not an "over glorified homeschool". That insults homeschoolers. Audeo, Altus and Charter School of San Diego are ALL THE SAME SCHOOLS!!! Think about it. Kids are supposed to learn from the book at their own pace, do the work, and get out fast. The teachers are there as guides. WRONG!!! There are no single subject credentialed instructors. There are no instructors familiar with the details of any lesson plan at the time the student asks a question. For the two "part-time" multiple subject credentialed teachers there are usually 3 "aides" who apparently are "highly qualified" parents. This might work if they had the proper curriculum. But they are using INCOMPLETE and OUTDATED traditional school curriculum. The lesson guides are so old that the teachers can't do anything but make photocopies of old photocopies. The curriculum there was meant for a portion to be presented by a teacher and the students to have online access, neither of which is happening. Their teachers are really great at double speak, and would make very good marketing and sales reps for an Enron type company. This school is just a way for someone to scam taxpayers and skim off education funding.

I had doubts about the light work load and apparent lack of difficulty of the ind study program but my kid scored off the charts on all the state standardized tests so I guess it must be OK; he's already smart anyway just won't do anything. Anyway it was the only school that would take him after he got kicked out for selling drugs so I am very happy with it; the teachers seem very nice although there apparently isn't actually much interaction....

I echo the sentiments of the March 18th post. As a former employee, I will attest to many of these concerns(and have stated as such to the Charter office at San Diego City schools and in a published article outlining many of the problems). On top of the very average curriculum and a number of policies carried out by the administration that are 100% detrimental to students achievement, there is an atmosphere of fear at the school that make it very hard for good teachers to be both the professionals they need to be and the advocates of kids that I feel is required. This is a school that needs to have serious light shone into all aspects of its management. There is a lot of good in the program worth salvaging. With ethical and caring administrators, CSSD might pull itself out of this lowly ranking.

Let me just say that in my 11 years of schooling I have never seen a school more unproductive, more uncaring, and more unfocused than the Charter School of San Diego. I was a student at the Woodman branch for 2 years. I learned absolutely nothing. The school teaches through nothing more than elementary school designed lesson guides, and their focus is on everything that doesn't relate to college. I write this letter as a way of communicating to people out there that this school should undergo a major academic enlightenment, or completely shut down. I am no longer a student at this school (thank God), I was lucky enough to get accepted into a more academically prestigious charter school called Health Sciences High and Middle College. I hope someone reads this letter and is inspired to change the Charter School of San Diego system for the best. I would not recommend this school to anyone. As a closing, let me just say that the teachers at the Charter School of San Diego are fraudulent and don't care about the students at all.

My son attends The Charter School of San Diego. Before he started attending this school my son hated school. He was lost with all of his classes. The Charter school of San Diego's model of giving one or two classes at a time, and having wonderful motivating teachers, has really changed my son's belief in himself. My son's teacher, Mr. Armstrong, took him from wanting to dropout to being a successful college student. This school gets five stars.

My daughter was never really motivated in school, even as a young child. Due to a learning disability, I transferred her to Charter and it was the best thing we ever did. Small class size and 2 teachers were just what she needed to get that 'spark'. Children learn differently, and I feel if it wasn't for Charter, she would have dropped out. Now she is a Senior with straight A's.

This school is not meant for intelligent students, regardless of what the school preaches! The teachers at my daughters site are more interested in socializing rather then being attentive to the needs of the student. The teacher does not keep me updated on my daughters at all, I have to constantly track the teacher down (because I am always greeted by the answering machine rather than a person!) The curriculum is a joke, it is not even remotely challenging. When my daughter asked about university preparation and requirements, she was told to look it up online! I am in the process of enrolling my daughters at a different school.

I gave this rating simply because of Mr. Q at the Worthington Campus. He loves his job and it shows through his students, my daughter has never been motivated in her entire school career, but with his support she has changed to the 100th power. She was never barred from the SD school district, like some of the other student that attend charter, but w/ Mr. Q it wouldn't matter anyways. I can't say that all the teachers at charter share his motivation and understanding of thier students, but he definitely does. If the day comes that a person asks my daughter which one of your teachers most influenced you it would be Mr. Q w/o a doubt.

My 2 girls went/go to this school. The older one found it prepared her for college very well. They can't just flunk a subject, they have to keep at it until they master it! They have 1 teacher who knows them and works with them, instead of 6 who change every semester. They were able to concentrate on subjects, instead of having 6 projects due the same day. Some kids mess up at the regular school, come to Charter and learn, then go back to walk graduation with their friends--that's one reason the graduation rate is low.

I went to this school for a little while in 9th grade. My teacher Ms Lewis was very supportive and nice. The thing I did not like is that you are not allowed to talk to the other kids so it isnt social, and you cant really get any help on the topic you are learning. You get to come in whatever days and whatever time which is convenient for kids with jobs. Overall I liked regular school better but charter is good too.
