I went to CTA from 2004 and graduated in 2008. I'm now in my second semester at San Diego State University. In the beginning, CTA was awesome, great equipment, good projects, teachers, the works. Somewhere along the line, maybe around sophmore year, the student body changed. It was mostly the incoming freshmen, but it seemed like nobody wanted to really learn. Kids going to school just to go. In my last construction class I ran into 3 juniors who could not read a tape measure. If that's not sad I don't know what is. Most of the teachers do a great job in teaching, and there are very few who do a poor job of 'teaching'. Just like this parent said, myself and other kids on the right track hardly got help from counselors because there was always someone in their office being 'disciplined'. Good luck without Mr. Hillegas.

I have a senior that has been at CTA since 2004 the first year that KHS was a complex. He has done well but he would do well at any school. He is fortunate that has a parent that cares and is informed. The principal of this school is one of the best!! The counseling department in this school is poor. They tend to make discipline the main focus. In 4 yrs my son has not worked with a counselor unless it was requested. They, counselors, have done nothing for this student. The teachers in this school are excellent. I would recommend this school highly but I suggest you keep track of requirements and be your child's advocate.

CTA is an amazing school from the principal to the teachers to the students. We have two sons that attend CTA and we made the decision to transfer one from private and the other from a charter school to bring them to CTA. We are very impressed with the small school concept and the real world application that most of the lessons and concepts incororate.

The Academic program is amazing! Students learn how to apply the regular subjects of high school to work related skills like writing a resume, speaking in public or running a project. It's a 'Small Learning Community' so every teacher in the school knows almost all of the students.
