I really like Finney my daughter just got to be there for kinder but we had to move. The teachers and staff were very involved as well as the parents and being able to work in that atmosphere was great!
I've had a bad experience with the principal Mrs. Amador at Finney Elementary, we just move this year to the area around Finney Elementary and my daughther started the 6th grade in that school, in a class with 5th and 6th graders, with Mrs. Angleton, who is missing a lot school/teaching days, that class has had at least more than 5 substitute teachers, and the principal has not done anything on her part. It's the same problem everytime, I sent a report to the distric, but I am really frustated because they told me they can't do anything about it. Which is the same thing the school pincipal told me. Mrs. Amador said they were working with that group, where are our taxes, we are the real teachers??
I am really happy that my daughter has transferred to Finney. Mrs. Cruz has been exceptional with her transition and is great with communicating with parents. I greatly appreciate the enriching environment that the teachers have created for the students.
I would really like to say that I'm happy having my kids enrolled at this school. Teachers are always supporting the kids as well as the principal who is always looking forward to do his best on behalf of the students. Finney is a school where parents can volunteer if they decide it and teachers are glad with the help.
I have 2 children at Finney School, one in 2nd and one in 4th. Since there has been a change in the office staff and with the new Principal, things have improved dramatically. There has been a program implemented to improve attendance, traffic patterns for parents to pick up and drop off their children have been established, making the school safer, and discipline throughout the school is beng handled very efficiently. With this type of administrative support, the teachers can focus on teaching the students.
My daughter attended Finney for Kindergarten and 1st grade. Unfortunately we ended up moving and she had to transfer, but what a huge difference people really make. Mrs. Thimm(k) and Mrs. Haase(1st grade) were incredible teachers. My daughter is always using rhymes and songs for her 2nd grade math and writing, that she learned from her two years at Finney. Homework schedule at Finney was also so much more structured. Now my child is given a homework packet due at the end of the week. Another quality of Finney are the parents and the rest of the staff. A very small school feel which is something we will truly miss.
So far, (4 years) my children have been in classes with excellent, caring teachers who have always been willing to modify the cirriculum to challenge them. Each of the teachers that I have dealt with have worked hard to ensure that my daughters are enjoying school & learning on their own levels. I have noticed that they really care & want each child to do his/her best, it is not just lip service or test scores that count. This school has a very high English Language Learner population, which could be troublesome for some people, however they make sure that ALL children are given the tools to excel if the child wants to. I have also noticed a lot of parent involvement/support which I think is probably normal for elementary school but is still wonderful to see. There are some music & art classes included (seems to depend on the grade).
