Wow! What a change! Looking great and an amazing leadership. The teachers seem extremely respectful, helpful, and knowledgable. All clean campus and no gum anywhere! They got new concrete everywhere this last 2014 summer.

My daughter just started sixth grade here at Bell in September. She has had nothing but issues at this school. A teacher said she had to bring in her transcripts personally or she'd get an F grade for the assignment to bring it in. Found out just recently the teacher never gave the paperwork to the counselor as she was supposed to so my daughter could get into advanced classes. Now after weeks of being bullied for being white I was told that I wasn't allowed to talk to the principal unless his secretary deemed it worthy. She didn't so we were "allowed" to speak with the counselor. After realizing the school was going to be of no help we now are stuck with the only real option at this point in our area, which is to pull my daughter out and do independent studies, just so she is safe! Ridiculous!! Talking to a couple teachers only to find that white children are constantly being discriminated against at this school.

I am a student here and I had so many memories at this school. This school contains many clubs(drama club,Glee club, etc.). They have a very talented music teacher who is (as I was told) the best music teacher in the district. The teachers are very helpful and caring, along with the staff. This is my favorite school so far.

I'm a student, and I have to say that this school is alright. It's not the best, and it's not the worst. This school has it's fair share of good and bad staff members, nothing worth getting all excited over. There are some communication issues that were VERY inconvenient, but all in all, it's not bad. It's not good either, but it's not bad.

very irresponsible school they allow too much and the teachers don't know how to handle their own students all the staff does is wait to get referrals from a few teachers and go ahead and suspend the student they never inform the parents

This school is very irresponsible. They allow things to go on and the parent is the last one to know usually. They allow people to come on campus that have nothing to do at the school except cause trouble. Bad bad school.

I am a former 8th grader of Bell and i have to say this school is great and nice to be in.The school is so diverse in races and you can always find a group of friends to be in.Despite the rumors about being Bell being a bad school well that is just not true. The teachers actually care about teaching us and stay after school if we need to catch up on our missed work or get some extra credit in.Great school alot of memories from that school for me to remember.

I moved across the country to San Diego, but I had no clue what I was getting myself into at Bell. The first day of school was very unorganized, no teachers told me where the classrooms were, and I was very confused. I tried making friends, but everyone was so clique - ish that every time I would try to talk to someone, they would walk away and laugh. The teachers could care less about my education, and I was learning things I learned back in 4th grade! The lunch may be good, but it's very unhealthy. They have no tables to eat at, you can only eat on benches. The campus is really unclean, and quite frankly it looks like a prison. Not trying to be racist, but white people are the minority. Needless to say, I lasted 3 days at Bell before moving. Do not go to Bell! Please!

I am a student at this school and yeah this school has great teachers, only reason students have bad grades is because they tend not to pay attention dont just blame it on the teachers. Teachers stay afterschool to help students get caught up in their work or if they need help in anything. Well tucking your shirt in is kinda uncomfortable and but I guess the school administrators enforce it since it makes you look 'Perfessional' I just dont like the school administrators, I see kids at lunch constantly worrying if there is a school administrator around just because their shirt is untucked because the punishment is picking up trash and looking like a fool. Overall the whole school is perfectly great in my opinion.

this school is a great place to be. this school teaches children what its like to be a person of choice. even though there are a lot of fights, the kids learn there lesson. im a bell student myself and im a sixth grader. this school has a ot of programs that kids can participate in and thats the good thing about it. me and my brother go there and even though some people dont have the best time, me and my brother know that we need to avoid what bad things that are going around us.

This is a horrible school. I have two children that attend and they have been in several schools because we are a military family, but they have the absolute worst grades while attending Bell...and most of the teachers there are unreachable and seem to not care.

I think Bell is a great school because I am making friends and learning at the same time. Sure there may be fights but the school administrators take care of it as soon as possible. There is always a teacher around to supervise the campus. The uniforms may be hideous and repolsive but we have to tuck it in and we can un-tuck it after school. Bell has a bad reputation but what people are talking about now doesn't happen as much anymore. And you parents who critisize this school you should actually go see the school in action because after school kids un-tuck their shirts and do weird/bad things. But in school, they're really good people that respect this campus and they get involved! There are a lot of clubs like GK and TKF where they tell you that you can be a good citizen.

Unfortunately, I have nothing but negative things to say about this school. There is a uniform 'policy' (and I use that word lightly) supposedly in effect here, so I made sure that before the start of the year my kids had all of the proper uniform attire they were supposed to have, I ended up spending hundreds of dollars on all black shoes, and the appropriate shirts, pants etc, only to come find out when I go pick up my kids everyday that there are tons of kids wearing whatever they want, white sneakers, shirts not tucked in, etc. It's such a disappointment that the uniforms are not being enforced especially when myself and other parents I know went and spent a lot of money on the proper uniforms, I wouldn't of even bothered if I knew that pretty much anything goes. My kids don't seem to be learning much either.

The teachers at this school need to improve on its communication with the parents. Last year, I though my child was doing well in her elective. Only to find out that she went from an A first semester to a C+ in second semester. Not once did her teacher notify me of her decline in grade or how she could improve it. There was also a bullying issue that I brought to the attention of the vice prinicpal that I was never updated on. Lucky for my child, that it resolved on it's own. There are some positives I do like about the school. Uniforms is a great idea. The after school program is wonderful. The connectED automated calls work well. I also liked the Coffee with the Principals once every month. I just wished there were more parents attending. Academically, the school has improved as seen in the 2008 API.

This school is horrible, very unorganized. I had to go back 3 times to register my kids for school, because there were always too many people, and when I did get them registered, I stood in line for almost 3 hours. When I asked questions about bus transportation or uniforms, no one had an answer for me...in fact I still don't know if they offer a bus to pick up my kids. My kids are having a very hard time adjusting due to the fact that it is very cliquish. There is no tables for the kids to eat lunch at and no supervision at lunch time. What is wrong with this school??? I feel like it is at the bottom of the barrel. Save yourself and your kids the horrible experience of having to go here. I am trying to get mine out.

I didn't like the fact that my son had to go to this school. Everyone said too many bad things about the school. Now that the school was changed to a middle school 6-8 grades and that the students have uniforms I don't hate it as much. My son likes it and he likes most of his teachers.

This school has made a 180 degree change in the last year. Uniforms were put in place. I thought this would not make a change, it did! Students behave better and High School students can no longer come on campus without being easily identified. Class sizes were reduced. Vice Principals were put in charge of discipline instead of counselors. this reduced poor behavior dramatically. 28 private tutoring companies for H/w help. One provides free computers. An after school program called 6 to 6 provides addition after school help as well a sports program (football and soccer). I can finally teach every minute of every period. Two years ago this was not the case.

I went to this school for three years and it was overall an odd experience. There are definitely better schools, but if you're involved enough you can make the best of your education. This school is known to have a bad reputation due to its students. However, I must disagree when it comes to the teachers. There are only a few that are very careless. Look into honors classes and you'll be much more satisfied. The music and drama department are the school's strongest points. The drama club is famous for it's 'Lilac Theatre' and the music classes (especially orchestra) are award winning and create some beautiful sound.

This is not a good school at all, the teachers have no control over the students, this is a school that needs a lot of improvement as far as how the campus looks, there is a very limited amount of school sports , my child was sent to this school because we moved to here in the middle of the school year and the high school was to crowded to accept her even though she excelled academically.

this school is excellent I mean the teachers are great. The vice principal is the only person I have a problem with though because she does not know how to connect with the students on numerous occasions she has talked down to me and other parents like I did not know anything. I think that bell does have alot of positive things going on for itself such as their drama program. It is like a real live theatre Mr. Maher really pushes my daughter and son to do their best. Under his guidance many students have gone on to do professional acting in the community. The academics at this school are fantastic and I really feel connected to all of the teachers and know how my child is doing. When my daughters grades started to slip I automatically knew about it and worked to get them back on track together.

Bell Junior High has an excellent academic program. Also, student clubs such as FHA go to great lengths to also include young men, which helps the parents to raise well-rounded young men. My son, Pascual Lomeli Benitez, went to Bell years ago. He was well-prepared for Morse High School, which in turn prepared him very well for Southwestern Junior College and San Diego State University. He graduated with a BA in Criminal Justice two years ago. Also, the teachers at Bell and Morse were just wonderful. They still had too many students in the classes, and that is a shame. You shouldn't do that to such fine teachers! Anyway, thank you to the teachers at Bell Junior High and Morse High. You did an excellent job for my son, Pascual Lomeli Benitez. Sincerely, Marta Lomeli parent, community resident, & author of Cuentos From the House on West Connecticut Avenue
