My daughter has attended SCPA since 6th grade. While she enjoyed it, I think they could have done a bit more for the Jr. High kids with getting them ready for 8th grade auditions. I asked about this from the day she set foot on the campus. Now in 8th grade, and having not passed the audition to the High School part, I fee this school did little to help me prepare my child for the high school auditions. Not to mention in the middle of the first 6 weeks of school they "cold" transferred her 3 times in one week without warning due to "budget cuts." However after research API score and such for high school, I finally got my daughter to be comfortable with not attending SCPA High School next year. I am sending her to more traditional High school setting and I told her she will thank me later! In regards to the previous poster's concerned about the misbehaving students. Yes I agree, however it's not necessarily the school's fault but is moreso the parents of those student's fault!!

My son attended 6th grade and had significant problems with the children and the staff. There were only two 6th grade teachers that were well organized and able to handle the several kids they taught. I sat in several classes and was extremely disappointed. There was a large amount of behavioral problems with the children in Jr High. Every time I came to office there were always several kids in trouble from the Jr High. Vice principal in charge of Jr High discipline communicated well but I felt made some poor discipline decisions. We applied to this school specifically for the music program. Music program for 6th grade was not what I had expected from a performing arts school.. It was very disorganized partly because of several uninterested children in the music program. We spent a large amount of time speaking with the superintendent regarding school problems. I would not recommend sending your kids to this school if they are attending Jr. High. High school may be better but I am unsure since none of our children attended the high school.

I went there for six years and will never forget any of them. I met some of the most inspirational teachers and people i think i will ever meet in my life. Great school for discovering yourself and learning how to appreciate learning and thinking in a different perspective. Even when i wasn't doing so well in my classes i always had support and help from teachers who never lost faith in me. For the students who truly want to have a future in any career related to the arts and highly recommend perfecting your skills at this school. I don't know where i would be without growing up there.

My child entered this year as a 9th grader. She loves her electives and loves her fellow students. Artistic kids feel right at home at SCPA and everyone is very friendly. We love the P.E. Options and rich elective choices. We live 17 miles away and depend on transportation and gladly pay the fee asked by SDUSD. SCPA is well known for drama, music and dance. I feel the school should recognize and showcase their Fine Artists more often.

My daughter has been going there for three years now. We were concerned because she was coming in from a Montessori learning environment. Overall it's been a good experience. She loves the school and is at the top of her science class.

I am very dissapointed at this school.I just took my 6th grade daughter out, because she was falling behind in all subjects and only one of the teachers called me to let me know that was happening all the other ones didin't even bother letting me know.Seriously how far do students have to fall before they start to care or get any help???

SCPA is an incredible school where students are free to be themselves without the fear of judgement. To attend a school where each individual is unique and talented in their own way is amazing.

It is the best arts school, most likely, in the world. Nothing can beat was SCPA has already done, and they are still going further. Didnt think that was possible.
