Good teachers. Good cafeteria food. Extra-curricular activites are not affordable to lower-income families. Too much parent involvement - the students don't need their parents at school every day, as some are. Not all, but some High-maintenance, snobby parents. Unresponsive office staff.
Sunset View has very caring teachers. The resouces teachers are wonderful. There is wonderful parent involvement. The school grounds are beautiful.
My opinion is that this is one of the best elementary schools in San Diego, whether public or private. The thing that makes the difference is heavy parent involvement. Every child is cared for by the parent volunteerrs and there is a lot of extra funding for important programs.
Sunset View Elementary offers a very positive and well rounded experience for children. Because of the high level of parent involvment, there are many parent driven programs available at this public school. A few examples are Fine Arts, Character Development, Running Club, World Language (Spanish) Cultural Support which enhances/supports the regular 20 minute daily Spanish instruction. The teachers and staff are very fine and work closely with each other and parents for the childrens benefit. After school enrichment programs offer a diverse experience. My child has a sense of pride and community in her school and her education is important to her. Through the efforts of teachers at each grade level teaching time management and study skills, she has become a confident and disciplined student.
One of the staff teachers there Mrs: Darlene Jensen it is a good teacher i know her. She does a good job with the kids.
Sunset View is known as one of the best public schools in San Diego and deservedly so. While the average percent of advanced (GATE and Seminar)students is less than 20%, SSV has over 30% high performing students in its student body.
This school is great in technology! My son has learned PowerPoint, publisher and other programs that will help him succeed in Jr. high School and college.
Sunset View was the first school in San Diego to be honored as a National PTA School of Excellence. It's tradition of parent involvement is outstanding.
My daughter was allowed to work to the top of her ability, even though that meant the teacher had to obtain new materials to support her achievement.
