My son and I truly adore this school. The staff will do anything they can to have your child be successful.I think this school is GREAT! The principals are fantastic and so are the teachers! If your looking for a school, this is the one for your child. This school goes to grades preschool-6th.
The teachers are good but the principal is worst. All she cares about how to put fence at the school. The previous principal was excellent but this principal does not care about students safety or education . If the school does not have a new Principal the API rating will be headed to 700 soon.
I truly love this school the teachers are the best. My son enjoyed going to school at ob Whaley unfortunately I moved and my son really got upset for not being able to stay at ob Whaley. Overall the school is the best at every single thing.
I love, love, love it. Both of my children are doing wonderfully at this school and I have no doubt it is because of the dedication of every staff member of the school. My kids have wonderful friends and enjoy going to school every day. Staff is very approachable and friendly.
I relocated to better neighborhood/school district. I should have checked out the schools before. My child would have continued to thrive at Whaley due to the dedication of the teachers and the support from the principal and vice-principal.
I relocated our family in order to be able to transfer my children from OB Whaley into another school in the district. They have free after school care on site, which is run by a group of teenagers who are nice. Their services to spanish speaking families are excellent, but I only speak english and 75% of what was sent home was in spanish. If you need spanish assistance, and do not use their daycare, the school is probably ok for you.
The principal, Lisa Artiga, has brought about many positive changes since she began in 2000. Parents appreciate Ms. Artiga's 'open door' policy and it is wonderful that she speaks Spanish, so she is accessible to more parents than before. The teachers, as a group, are hard-working and very dedicated. The staff works together for the benefit of the students. The school has high standards, a shared vision for student success, and a clear plan to achieve it. When you consider the challenges of this school (very high numbers of students learning English and who are socioeconomically disadvantaged as noted in the API report), it is doing an exceptional job of educating students!
