I am parent of two Valley Christian Schools "Lifers" - attended Valley Christian School from K - 12 (13 years, each). I also had one of my other children attend Leland HS, and another attend Bellarmine. Overall, I'd rank VCS at least in the same category with these other fine area high schools, in terms of quality of academics, teachers who care, exposure to opportunity, college-preparedness, music + engineering + theater + athletics + robotics. And along with Bellarmine, Jesus Christ as Lord, is the center of the educational viewpoint, which makes a huge difference! All of the "complaining" about drugs-dogs-bullying (!?) are much more prevalent at other public high schools. Get real... these are teenagers in a fallen world - changing HS is not the answer. Only Jesus is the answer. At least the world view is truth at VCS. Go with VCS for your kids - Its well worth it for a Christ-centered education. Recommended.
From the outside Valley looks great, but it is truly miserable to attend. Our nickname for it is "Hell on a Hill".Students are judgmental and rude. There's an obvious hierarchy among students, and if you're not on the top then expect to be constantly bullied. There is a huge drug problem, so much so that the school now has to have dogs on campus at least twice a month. It's hit or miss with teachers. Some are great (especially in the history department), but others are boring or completely don't care. Administrators are unhelpful and often unavailable. They would rather turn their heads and pretend issues don't exist and assume the students are innocent and perfect. The athletics are terrible because the superintendent focuses on promoting obscure academic topics. I really wish I had chosen any other high school.
The Campus is very impressive - new, clean and the staff puts on "The Show". At first glance, the amenities look good. However, for a school that sits in the midst of a technology epicenter - this school falls short. No coding programs at all at the Junior High level. There are no internships/partnerships with major companies such as google, ebay, yahoo (a few miles away) available for students at the high school. Teachers do not respond to parent emails. There are known drug problems and issues with bullying that go unresolved mainly because the school refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem. We know of many parents that are looking for school alternatives for their teens as a result.
My son is currently in his Junior year at Valley Christian and I cannot express how happy we are with his educaiton. VCHS has a great academic cirriculum and prepares students for college. Its is very expensive and as a family we make sacrifices to send our son to this school (so not everyone is rich that goes there!), but feel it is completely worth it. The teachers are top notch and the sports programs are outstanding. My son is a proud Warrior!
As a sophomore at Valley, i can totally say this is a great place!!! The kids are all so friendly in like, every grade level! Its just a really amazing place! If you're considering coming here, don't even worry! You'll be welcomed right away! When i was a freshman, i came in not knowing a single person and i was so freaked out! But right away at orientation, i made connections with tons of people, who are now my bestest of best friends! :) As for the teachers, they really want to be your guide! They want to have a friendship with you unlike any other group of teachers around. And to top it off, the campus is GORGEOUS. Overall, Valley is just such a comfortable place! Hope you can end up at school here someday! :)
My daughter graduated from Valley Christian High School May 2009. Personal experience: My overall opinion of this school is excellent. While no school is perfect and there's always room for improvement, VCHS has prepared my daughter for college thoroughly. She was able to participate in the Leadership Program which prepared her even more for the next 4 years. Atmosphere: Yes, because this is a private school, you will have your usual 'snooty' kids, but overall I have found the students to be friendly. Teachers are great wtih return emails and phone calls and the counseling staff is very helpful. Facility: You could not find a more state of the art school from technology labs, sports fields to the theatre and everything in between. It's very well maintained and worth visiting. Full time security staff is a plus. Looking forward to my next child entering in the Fall 2010.
While the curriculum, staff, arts etc are all outstanding, it's the actual atmosphere while being a student that disappoints. The students are not the friendliest, and it's very much like a typical high school movie. Snobby students, cliques, and much teasing goes on here. I was disappointed after transferring here from another Christian school. The curriculum may be, but most of the students are not what I call Christian. My old school truly was and I wish I didn't have to move here. If you try and tell the staff about the teasing and hierarchy that goes on here, they don't do much but tell you to ignore it. If you as a parent can remember terrible high school years granted you weren't the most attractive/wealthiest girl/boy in school I suggest you keep tabs on your childs social life. The students here can be very cruel, and not like Jesus at all.
I am an international student from Hong Kong, and attended Valley for a year as a freshman. I can't describe how great the school is. The teachers are more like family, the school is more like a university and the spirit is earth shattering. Great academic courses, with a huge variety of after school sports and extracurriculars. I would deem this school the best school on earth.
My son is a freshman and it's our first year at Valley and it's been the MOST amazing experience. Not only is it obviously clean, well kept and huge but the teachers/counselors and entire staff provide an exceptional educational experience for the kids. What a blessing to be a part of Valley.
This school has a great academic and sports history and supports children.
I went to Valley through sophmore year, when I started attending a public high school. Although Valley is great academically(with outstanding teachers!), I was much happier after I left. Don't let that stunning campus and Christian flag fool you- Valley is no more accepting or caring than any other school. The kids at my current school are much more considerate and much more down-to-earth than the rich, snobby kids at Valley. If you want a truly caring Christian enviroment where your kids won't be subjected to teasing, look elsewhere.
I really enjoyed learning from the many great teachers that Valley has, as well as teaming up with my peers to solve challenging problems in my classes. Since I have taken eight AP courses throughout high school, it was necessary to learn how to problem-solve with others to help myself better learn and retain the knowledge I had gained. Valley also trained my spiritual being as well, causing me to evaluate my actions and making sure that in everything that I do I am trying to please the Savior, not the people around me. At the end of my four years, I can definitely say that I felt prepared to start a new journey in college.
I am a UC Berkeley student who recently graduated from Valley Christian. I also came to Valley after attending a public middle school with high expectations. However, Valley was not very easy for me. I took challenging Honors and AP classes that required many hours of studying and sleepless nights in order for me to do well. Taking these classes has greatly helped me in my college admissions. There are areas that Valley still needs to improve and I don t think that Valley is perfect. But I know from my experience that Valley has many caring teachers and administrators who strive to make Valley a better place each year. I am sure that Valley will continue to grow and become even a better school than it is now. I had a wonderful time in Valley and feel blessed that I was able to have such an awesome experience. Go Warriors!
I attended Valley Christian after attending a public jr high with high academic standards. Valley was very easy for me and I graduated with a 4.0. I feel that I would have had to work a lot harder (and gotten a better education) at St. Francis. It's a safe haven for 4 years at an expensive price. Beautiful school with amazing athletic programs & the teachers are all very caring and helpful. I also feel like the kids that go to Valley are kinder and more accepting of others.
Both of my kids went to this school, it's an excellent academic school. My kids were well prepared to the college and they are now in one of the good college nationwide (Santa Clara University). Teachers are well educated and responsible. The management follow up the kids in a good manner.
Valley Christian is an amazing school that provides a great Christian setting for young men and women to grow academically, physically, and spiritually. Students at VCHS show lots of passion and motivation in succeeding in academics, sports, arts, and other activites.
My oldest child has been at VCS since 6th grade and is now a freshman at VCS high school. The academic program is excellent with very dedicated teachers and a variety of electives. The music, theater, dance programs are excellent with the band program being particularly strong. Sports is a big part of the school as well with excellent facilities that are shared between the jr high and high schools. The campus is new and very beautiful. A large variety of sports is offered to both boys and girls. Parents are involved with fundraising for sports/fine arts programs. The only drawback is the school is not as diverse as the local population. Being a private Christian school with a 'healthy tuition', the majority of students are middle-upper middle class Caucasian. In the lower grades, there is more diversity and over time it will improve.
Most beautiful campus I've seen. A place where your child can truly find friends with high moral standards. Might be the only high school school in a very affluent county where the majority of the kids do not abuse drinking & drugs. A nice mix of ethnicity and income. A top ranked football team for the past few years withpacked stands at every game. Top teams in other sports as well. For tougher academics honors and AP classes are a must.
Nice attitude from the teachers. Curriculum balanced, challenging and yet not so difficult it breaks a kids spirit.
Valley Christian School is an excellent school. Our daughter attended 5th grade there after coming from a Sacramento public school. The level of education is outstanding. They truly inspire the children with a high standard of morals. Children are taught to treat each other the way they would have others treat them. If we hadn't relocated to Texas, our child would have stayed at Valley til High School graduation.
