The school. teachers, parents and students are wonderful at Monroe. the principal has issues with yelling and not communicating very well with parents. I have three children from first to fourth and this will be our last year at Monroe unless things change. Parent participation is lacking due to the atmosphere created by the principal

In this day and age of severe cuts to educational programs in schools, I'm very pleased that this school provides physical ed, music, and art classes. It has a strong PTO (although they could use more parent participants) doing fundraisers throughout the year, raising funds to rent buses for students to go on field trips. This school had a variety of family events this year, such as Math Night and Lunar New Year Family Night, both with huge turnouts. The coursework during the first couple of months of the schoolyear tends to be remedial, but it soon accelerates to grade-level. Overall, this is a great school, and as a parent of a first-grader I'm confident that my daughter is getting a solid education here.

We will be returning to Monroe for our third year next year. Overall, we have been very pleased. The teachers are highly experienced and very dedicated, and teacher turnover is very low. Parent involvement is somewhat lacking, but it is a very diverse school and language barriers could be a big issue. The principal has a practice of communicating pertinent issues to the parents via memos on a regular basis, which I find comforting.
