It is a great school. My grandson goes there.
My son just got off to a great start in Kindergarten at Taper! I am so impressed with, and grateful to, the principal, Mrs. Steinbach. My son began Kindergarten with great enthusiasm! By mid week he was having anxiety attacks. Thanks to Mrs. Steinbach's hands on approach, she was able to identify the problem my son was having and solve it. Since then he looks forward to going to school everyday! Mrs. Steinbach is always available and visible at the school. I think she runs the school efficiently, with a calm demeanor, and personal touch.
I love this school because my nephew loves it!
I DONT KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN!! Taper was reccomended by someone I knew. I disregarded their lower API scores in comparison Park Western. In addition to that, they were the only school in the area that had a Kindergarten Magnet class. So i decided to enroll my daughter. It was the worst experience I could have ever imagined. Considering I am a bi-racial person(African American and Caucasian, I never look for racism, however, it resonated throughout the entire school campus. Taper's teachers and staff never looked me in the eyes, or acknowledged me as a parent at their school. I immediately realized that my child's teacher had an issue with African Americam children. she never acknowledged my child with rewards of recognition or praise, but told me she was doing great. The prinnciple and magnet cordinator was a joke and wouldnt give me a copy of the Gate Plan. So SAD!!
Less than one star. Moved from Northern Cali and were disgusted with the low quality education and elementary school experience this school provides our second child, while the first one got top notch education in a public school up north. The parents here have obviously very low expectations of what a school should be and what a child should take away as part of their education. Wake up - the school has the worst, most condescending teachers who are not qualified, the first grade teacher couldn't answer the simplest North America geography question and half of them can't spell.
We have moved recently from Seattle to San Pedro and we were wery concerned about finding the right school for our 8 yr old daughter. After enrolling her into Taper Elementary we did not really know what to expect , being new to the area and the neighborhood. It has been now 4-5 months since she started second grade here at Taper and she has already been a student of the month, continues to be a good student and continues to progress and show discipline. That only comes as a result of great Teaching and that is what Taper is all about. We are very grateful to everyone at Taper Elementary and our daughter loves it and is making friends now. Thank you Taper Elementary
Taper is a wonderful school. The SAS program was very challenging and benefitial in preparing my daughter for the challenges of Magnet Middle School life. When she began middle school, it seemed like a continuation of the 5th grade back at Taper. At Taper, my daughter learned how to be organized, manage her time on homework and projects and most of all she developed the confidence to manage 6 classes and it's curriculum. Taper really did a great job of offering a variety of opportunities for the parents to stay involved in our children's education. Taper welcomes its parent volunteers and embrasses them. Now that my son is preparing to start kindergarten, there is no doubt in my mind that Taper is the place for us.
Great kids, teachers, faculty staff members, and volunteers too. Concerned about traffic & public safety issues; people often speed and triple park near campus; construction & cell phone antenna towers, refinery soot and particulate materials contaminate our campus environment too.
for me Taper has been one of the best school for my kids and the teachers they've had so far, love them.So my rating is based on my experience.
this school is the best place to send your kid in san pedro..
