Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My son just finished his first semester as a Freshman at Santa Susana Highschool. I would highly recommend NOT to send your child there. First of all the campus is completely open and with very little security. There is no supervision in the locker rooms or cameras in case something happens. My son was the victim of a bully who tried choking him to death over two dollars! Luckily my son got free and defended himself. The incident did not change a thing. We tried to move on from this but academically my son began to struggle. I tried to get support from the administrative staff which took a very long time for a response. This school is a regular public school with not much support for the teachers who seem overwhelmed and if a student is in need it is ignored. My son will be going to a charter school in January.

This school started out really impressive but then turned out to be a disappointment. My son went to Santa Su for 4 years and had 3 different principals. I must say the first two were really good (especially the 2nd) but the the third and last principal was big mistake on the school districts part. She does not communicate with the parents well and is very defensive on most issues that you might have. The school really went down hill in the last year. There are a lot of really good teachers there but dealing with the administration is not only painful for the parents but the students as well. We could not get any help with our questions regarding college from the counselor and when I went to the principal for help she was very nasty and told me to stop bothering teachers and counselors. I am very grateful to the help of an outside college counselor that I had to hire for the proper guidance and that my son is finally done with that school. I have another child at Simi High. I can say enough good things about that school.

Santa Susana High is school is Incredible. The support from our teachers and staff is awesome! Majority of our teachers offer tutoring after school. I am an involved parent and have been welcomed in all departments. If you want to be involved log on to: http://www.santasusana.org/parents/organizations/ and make contact, we will show you the way. Our PTSA supports our school events, teachers/staff, and students. Boosters supports all the departments that focus in the Arts. Our Leadership Class supports all departments. All academies have their own committees and do a lot of fund raising on their own. Students at SSHS do not judge or stress about what you are wearing or who your friends are. Everyone is focused. They all know who they are and what they want out of life. My oldest son certified with honors in 2 Academies, Visual Arts with and Major in Animation and Computer Programming. My second son, a Junior; will certify in Music, Law, & Academics. The school has so much to offer, you just have to take advantage of it.

This is basically a good school. The one area that I found disappointing was this: Many students have problems with Chemistry and Algebra and higher math. THEY HAVE A POOR TUTORING PLAN TO HELP THESE STUDENTS...the only plan the school seemed to have was informal tutoring by "A" students. This didn't work due to these "A" students not showing up or too few of them showing up to handle the need for tutoring. They need to develope a list of chemistry and math ADULT tutors to help students who need extra help.

My son attended private school his whole life. He was ready to experience some reality. I have been impressed with the school from the beginning. An Assistant Vice Principal is out in the school yard every morning and afternoon along with the Principal visitng with the kids during lunch time. Important to get to know your students! The classes have been challenging and my son are taking College Prep and AP classes in his freshmen year. Counselor and school involvement are important to this school and it shows!

This school is ok not great but not bad how do i know im a student at santa susana high school they make a big deal about how its "So much diffrent then others schools" and its not. And they always side with teachers not students. And all the money they make goes to the School of Art thats the only one they care about they couldn't care less about the School of Technology or the School of Academics even though thier the one that actually do stuff.

I travel from the valley to Simi to send my child here for the Performing Arts, but they offer so much the kids cannot get bored. This school, in addition to a great staff and faculty offers programs that pull youths attention in a positive direction. So kids are not focusing on being better than each other and or things that may get them into trouble, (fighting, drugs, etc.) but drawing their young minds on participation in acedemics, technology and art. Imagine a school where your kids feel free to be who they are without any fear of the usual bullying or mean-girl cliques that sadly can occur in many schools. Imagine a school where the faculty and teachers truly care about the students and who get to know each one of them personally. A school that makes sure your child is absolutely as prepared as they can be for college, as each week included in the students schedule are 2 advisory periods to help each child navigate the daunting task of making sure they are taking the right classes and are earning more than enough credits to stay on the right track to graduate. Imagine a school where your child can excel in the performing arts and high academics at the same time. Imagine a school where you feel like you're part of a great, big extended family. Don't let people say that there aren't cliques at Santa Su. There are. they just aren't cheerleaders and jocks and science kids. But it still is a pretty good school - for those people interested in dance or theater or technology. Especially technology. Unfortunately, because of it's size, the academics portion of Santa Su is lacking just a little. True, we have some of the best teachers in the city, but because we have such small enrollment numbers, we can only have one, maybe two of each AP or Honors class, which does create schedual conflicts. And of course, it doesn't really feel like a real high school. There's no sports, there's no pep rallies, there's very little school spirit. And being on a middle school campus does make it feel even more like middle school part two.

As a previous student of Santa Susana High, I believe this school tops them all. Every student who attends is accepted for who they are. There are many clubs & activities for everyone to be involved. The students are involved as well as the parents. I couldnt have asked for a better High School Education. I graduated as School President in 2000. I am so pround of the milestones Santa Su has accomplished since I helped establish this school when it first opened. It has come a long way from the 'choosing the colors & mascot days' & I am proud of this school. I know my fellow classmates feel the same. You don't just get an education, you learn principles that help you the rest of your life & gain life long friends and mentors. I know when the time comes for my son to attend, this is his school!

One of the best schools I have ever attended. I moved from England a while ago and attended Royal & Simi High. In my personal opinion Santa Su is way cooler. We don't have much of a bully problem and kids are very accepting, many of them are too focused on their future or just busy being themselves and wouldn't bother outcasting everybody. Teachers are amazing! They actually care oddly enough. The rest of the staff is pretty cool too. All in all really great school I just wish they would hurry up and finish the preforming arts building before I graduate.

We moved to Simi Valley so my daughter could attend this school, she's in the dance program. Up until the end of last year it has been wonderful, and the academics are still the best ever. Otherwise the dance shows are great, in fact all the shows are great and the parent involvement is wonderful. We need more People on PACT to help with the performing arts center being built.

The size of this school is smaller, allowing the students to have good relationships with their teachers and the classes keep the students intrigued. Most of the time the teachers are approachable. This high school specializes in the arts and technology and honor classes and atmosphere is very much that of a University or College. The children seem to be more interested in their field and not so much on 'how they fit in'. This actually sets the foundation for the child's college years to come. There are no cliques and students are very accepting of each other. Since the school is fairly new (10 years old) they are still looking to improve. I think there is definitely some room for improvement in the administrative dept. Overall, though it is a great school.

Fantastic education. Small school with a huge emphasis on secondary education. This is a choice school with focus on the arts, technology and education.

Campus is welcoming to any student with any personality or background. Because the campus is so small, students know a majority of the school body. Teachers find interesting ways of taking a students strengths and allowing them room to improve on those strengths while still making sure other aspects are being taken care of. Because of the small campus teachers are able to get involved with the students and become more than just a teacher but also a friend, not letting that getting in their way of their ability to teach. By getting more involved with the student in more than just a teacher-student relationship, the teacher is able to find out exactly how the student learns.

My daughter is a tech geek and junior at Santa Susana Magnet for Performing Arts/Technology (they just earned CA Distinguished School status). In addition to the usual college prep requirements she has studied things that are just not available at a traditional High School. So far she has taken a full year each of computer programming, web programming and web design. Next year she will be taking the Networking Certificate program, which means she will be a certified IT Professional when she graduates! The school is very small and tends to attract an eclectic mix of kids who are passionate about something. A State-Of-The-Art Performing Arts Center will be completed soon. This school has changed my daughter's life. I highly recommend it without reservation, it seems to attract fantastic, motivating teachers - especially Mr. Huybers for AP American History! Stay away from Mrs. Talbot for any English class and you're good!

Santa Susana is an outstanding public school. The administration and teaching staff care about every student. If there ever is a concern on the part of a parent or student, the staff takes quick action to resolve the issue. Everyone is important. Before coming to Santa Su my daughter was enrolled in private school for several years. The students at Santa Su, the teachers, etc. are accepting of a student for who they are. No heirs need to be put on at Santa Su. I am so glad that she is doing so well and enjoying school.

Principal Dr. Robert Thompson and VP Pam Carter are the dream team who drive the success of this special school. We are so blessed to have these wonderful dedicated professionals who eschew politics or egos and focus only on outstanding school performance and student results. SSHS is a magnet high school specialized in Information Technology, the Arts, and 'Advanced Academics' (standard college prep courses plus AP classes). The I.T. School includes computer programming, web-site design, multimedia, graphic design, PC repair & maintenance. The Arts School includes dance, theatre arts, lighting & sound, stagecraft, instrumental music, vocal music, computer animation, video production and broadcasting. State and local school bond measures passed in March will assure a world-class performing arts center is built here over the next several years. CIF athletic programs are not available on campus, but SSHS students wanting them can participate at Simi Valley High, Royal High or community-sponsored programs.

I have 2 children at this school now. They provide an environment where children thrive and where children are excited about learning. I am more than pleased with what the school is doing for my children.
