I cannot even begin to do this school justice in what I am about to write. First off, the facilities are top-of-the-line! This school looks and feels more like a college campus than a high school. The young adults attending here are given enough free rein to feel like they have choices in their schedules and day but not so much that they get into trouble. My son is a freshman this year and has, for most of his academic career, been more of a sports kind of guy but has found a real community in the drama department. It seems there is a big push for "community" culture at this school. The teachers so far have been phenomenal! Chad Houck, the new principal, is also doing a great job with the staff and students. It's often that you'll see him at the roundabout drop off area waving and smiling as students are dropped off, even on the coldest of days. STHS's programs, teachers, and facilities will prepare the eager student for a brilliant career or college path and push those that aren't quite so eager yet. I could go on and on about how awesome this school is but if you take a tour of the school, you'll see it for yourself.
Brand new, state of the art art/architectural design/auto/wood shop just opened! New Performing Arts building on the way. Supportive community passed bond measure - also coming new gym, 2-story classroom building (almost done), & cafeteria. Great teachers (give their hearts) and parent involvement. (Huge sober grad night event free to Seniors!) Tight community with great natural beauty and environmental/healthy activities. We have our own marathon, multiple ski resorts, hiking and water sports to die for. Come check us out! Always need new, excited families to join our South Lake Tahoe lifestyle. GREAT school board has helped immensely with procuring bond $ and grants to keep our programs expanding even in tough economic times.
Academics are at the top of their game and the extracurriculars? Awesome! The parents are in on the school's activities and really help out a lot, I think. also, the NJROTC program..it flat-out rules! That program and society is a very distinguished and caring community and upholds great honor!
