Steele Canyon is a great school. Im a mother of a senior there and she has attended Steele for all four years. The block schedual is perfect! It allows the students to learn everything that the other schools are, without overloading them with homework. The hour and a half classes allow them to focus in on the subject a lot easier than if it were only an hour long class. The teachers are wonderful and they really care about the students. Overall just a great school.

I'm the parent of an 11th grader, this being our third year at Steele Canyon, we are still full of happiness and positive thought about the school. It's full of amazing teachers, the principal does an outstanding job, and the school atmosphere in general is out of this world awesome! I'm extremely happy for my daughter to be in this great school.

So far we have had a positive experience at SCHS. My son likes his classes, and we are impressed with his teachers. The school has excellent home-school communication. I am very encouraged to know SCHS administration enforces the dress code policy, although some of the hair styles I have seen are distracting and inappropriate for successful students. The average high temperatures for Spring Valley is 68 in January and 87 in July. It is rarely above 95, and so no excuse for students to dress inappropriately in skimpy clothes.

I personaly dont like the dress code the 'no tank tops or spaghetti straps' thing is really ignorant. Its hot in San Diego especially in Spring Valley these people need to grow up. They say its because it will show your bra straps or your shoulders every single girl in high school weres a bra! even the teachers. Its pathetic and the shoulders do not get the boys excited at all. Change the dress code its usually almost 100 degrees in San Diego!!

I am a graduate of SCHS. I am a first year graduate. The school helped me a lot for college. the teachers were wonderful and helpful. I never had a study hall block in my 4-years there. It is very easy to learn ahead my fellow classmates.

I would have to agree with the previous reviewer in that our kids graduated from SCHS and were not prepared for college either. They were placed in remedial English writing classes and remedial math classes in college. It will take them both six years to graduate from college. They had friends from Valhalla that were certainly behind both of them academically on entering high school and were well ahead of them upon graduation. We were not a fan of the Charter system and would hope that there would be a referendum. We just want what is best for our children and yours. On retrospect, we would have done something very different.

My daughter was new to SCHS this year, entering into the 10th grade. Previously she attended private school. I was as nervous as she was. To our surprise, she has adjusted well, making lots of new friends. She loves her teachers who are challenging her in all of her classes. The kids will get out of it what they put into it. If you looking for a babysitter 8 hours out of the day, you'll be disappointed. This is a school for learning and growing. Lots of xtracurricular activities for student interests. Teachers are always responsive to my inquiries and phone calls. I highly recommend this school!

Steele Canyon has an enthusiastic faculty and a positive environment. My son, however, has almost no homework due to a 90 minute study period which takes place during school hours. I really don't know how this is legal. Less time with teachers means less learning and I question whether he will be as well prepared for college as others who attend high schools with a traditional schedule. Students also do very poorly on the math STAR testing. Not enough time in class. They call it college prep but half the students don't complete the requirements needed (see the district website and STAR test scores) . Nevertheless, my son has enjoyed the school and and the reduced academic load. . I only hope his classes (which are honors) will enable him to get into a UC school. I hope I haven't made a mistake m allowing him to attend SC..
