Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Pico Canyon is a top notch, grade A, excellent school! Mrs. Banda the principle is a hands on professional who balances compassion with leadership. The teachers are excellent!! Especially the sixth grade! We transferred from private school as well, and definitely feel the education our child is getting at Pico Canyon Elementary school is head over heals above the private schools we attended.

This is a fantastic school and Mrs. Banda the principal is unbelievably amazing. The teachers are great. My kids started out at a private school and switched to Pico, I am thrilled that we did. Everything we heard about public schools was a lie. I can't say enough good things about Pico.

Pico Canyon elementary is a first class school with great teachers and a wonderful Principal. Almost all of the teachers give 100% and Mrs Banda, the Principal is very helpful and genuinely cares about the welfare of the kids.

The staff at Pico Canyon do a great job for the vast number of children they have to manage. I think the kids get a good education and they are pretty well-supervised. Because it's a fairly diverse mix, we get some bad eggs and I wish there were some way to hold back those bullies when they get rough (I see bad behavior unchecked when I volunteer at school, though any time I report something, it's dealt with.) When kids aren't being disciplined at home it carries over at school, and I do believe suspension needs to be kept as an option for any school for the protection of all the students, and to keep an environment where students can learn effectively and teachers and staff can remain in control of very large numbers of children.

We recently moved to Stev. Ranch and Pico Canyon Elementary from the #2 district in the state. Although the schools are much larger (1000 students!), the class sizes remain at 24 pupils. We have had excellent teachers. Students receive mostly whole group instruction after 3rd grade, but 1st-2nd grade breaks the kids into ability groups that really hone in on skills and needs. The principal, Mrs. Banda, is extremely professional and is highly respected by the parents, students, and teachers. Students are given many ways to "shine" individually in different areas: music, academics, art contest, science fair, student government, etc...We feel lucky to have our kids at Pico Canyon Elementary!

This school is very well organized and they have a great system in place. My child brings home enough homework to make sure what is taught is being reiterated at home. The teachers work long hours to make sure that their lesson plans are prepared. Thank you for your hard work.

The teachers here at Pico are here to teach not just collect a paycheck. They are genuinely concerned about what our children are learning and how they are learning. Parents are encouraged to get evolved and they do! Our principal has a tough job but she fills the shoes nicely. I have the opportunity to have my children to go to 1 of 2 school districts and hands down I have chosen the best place for my children to thrive and learn

Pico Canyon delivers a top-notch education, no doubt about it!! I have had children here since the school's opening in 2003 and have been consistently delighted. The teachers do a superior job, the staff is incredibly supportive and the programs in place - academic, artistic, fitness and character-building - are excellent. Parents are a strong presence, as well. This school has helped shape my children into well-rounded, upstanding, critically thinking students. Keep up the amazing work, Pico!!

Outstanding teachers and cirriculum emphasizing reading, writing and math. Not just memorization but by analyzing and thinking. I have 3 children here, every teacher so far has been an exceptional teacher that inspires the children to love learning. My eldest has really excelled at math, loves math (and did not get that from me). The teachers here are model teachers.

I am a former student of Pico Canyon. It was an amazing school, and the teachers weren't just there to keep their jobs. They seemed like they were there because they were doing what they loved. The students were encouraged to be polite and the writing curriculum is exceptional.

Pico Canyon has a great program for dads and kids called All Pro Dads that meets monthly and gets dads involved with their kids at school, which the kids absolutely love. My kids enjoy everything about the school and love their teachers. Parent involvement is very high which makes the school that much better!

I love Pico Canyon Elementary School because each and every teacher, administrator, counselor, speech & rsp therapist, janitor, cafeteria worker, playground attendant, parent volunteer, and student is focused on creating a wonderful, safe, and inviting environment of learning for our children.

My daughter has attended Pico since its inception, transferring from Stevenson Ranch Elementary. I have found the teachers to be the most caring and energetic staff any where around. Yes, the grounds are less than perfect. BUT, if you are one of the ones complaining about a lack of books in the library, or a less than admirable student to computer ratio....stop complaining and start helping!! All this school needs is to solicit the help of the SCV business community and we can make progress. The curriculum is well founded, and its many after school events are as enjoyable as they are innovative. I have yet to meet a teacher at Pico who isn't top notch. My daughter currently has Mr. Eiford, and he is amazing. He is engaged and very caring. Of course we keep an ongoing conversation with him in person and via e-mail. You get what you give.

I feel the GATE system seems to be lacking, since the two years I've attended this school the GATE program is not a 'big deal' to the school. There are not a lot of classes that can really improve my skills in any way. Most recently the track field has been on construction during the PE class and it has bothered many of my classmates, since the dust and noise is very annoying. The teachers are excellent, but the new principal has an 'attidtude'. (opinion)

My son just started Kindergarten here. After years of wondering about how well he would do when entering this school, I am finally at ease. He loves his class, classroom and most of all his Teacher Mrs. Brixey. He has come home everyday with smiles teaching us his class 'cheers'. Even though school just started two weeks ago, my son seems to be excelling much more so than with Pre-School. So far, I love the neat things the children are taught and how they are being taught. Pico Canyon has great school spirit and great parent involvement. These are all reasons why I think Pico Canyon is a great school!

My son transferred to Pico Canyon from a very small older LAUSD school in the SFV. I honestly believe that newer and bigger is not better in the case of this school. Yes, the school is beautiful as are the surroundings, but the ratio of teachers without children of their own which would benefit them in relating to their students is lacking. It also seems that the lack of diversity with regards to students that come from many different economic situations gives the school an elitist and somewhat cold feeling.

The teachers are awesome. (great teachers!) They work with each student and put them in groups and let them work at their own pace. No pressure.... only an environment that encourages each child to thrive. A great school. Great parent involvement too! I'm proud to have my son attend Pico Canyon.

Ever since Pico opened its doors it has been doing an outstanding job of working within a system that is very convoluted. The teachers are fantastic and encourage parental involvement which is outstanding. The community is wonderful but the school surroundings are poor. There's an attached park with no security and it borders a highway with allowable speeds of up to 50mph. The school is surrounded by streets and condos and houses, close to the fwy. The attached park has drainage issues because it was built in a flood plain. If you don't mind the poor amenities and security issues, it's a very good school.

This is an excellent school that really focuses on exceeding State academic standards and preparing students for higher grade level work. The school setting is in a wonderful, close-knit, family-oriented suburban area. The principal knows parents by name and all teachers are friendly, well-educated and seriously committed to developing and challenging the students. I am fortunate to live in area with such an amazing school!

This is a new school with bad food, no security, no computers that can be used by the students, a library with next to no books, a school yard that is far too small and the school fronts on a major highway. The teachers are good and the students come from homes that are well to do but both are hampered by a school board and a county supervisor that continually sell out the interests of both the teachers and students by allowing an out-of-state developer to underfund the schools in this rapidly growing community.
