INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My experience so far at Nestle Avenue Charter has been a snowball of disappointments. This is my child's first year at this school, and our family picked this location because of the great school rating system. We moved here from out of town, and could not visit and "get a feel" for the school a head of time. I am extremely disappointed with the staff, the curriculum, and its general opperations. The overall lack of communication is absurd. I am never notified of future events unless it involves getting money from me. There is No sense of community, camaraderie of parents, or relationship. The schoolwork my child brings home - math/reading comp/history/you name it!- is all work they've already done last year at their previous school. There is no challenge, and my fear is that my child will be left behind when I send them to better performing/functioning school next year. Staff and parents have all been extremely unfriendly. If you're looking to send your child to this school - and it's at all possible to check it out during school hours before your sign-up- please do. It's incredibly enlightening to see how a school operates before you make your decision.

So far I am disappointed. The office secretary is rude. Supervision during drop-off is a joke. And, this school is NOT 80% white.

Our son is in transitional kindergarten this year at Nestle Ave, and he has a wonderful teacher. She is very kind, helpful and always available to all for questions. Our son has leanred alot during the last 100 days at school. One thing the school really need to work on is get its website up so the parents can get updaated information about school activities and schedules. It has been down since the first day of school. I always have to go to the office to find out or look at other schools' websites to find out about importants dates like spring break and summer break in advance so we can plan ahead.

Most of the teachers who work here are very dedicated and wonderful. That had been my experience until this year. I stayed after one afternoon to ask questions about my daughters' homework packet, her teacher who shall go unnamed, was blantantly rude and not very helpful. She spoke to me in a way that I have never experiences. It is unfortunate because I thought she was a good choice but I am starting to regret the recommendation for her to be in the class.

I do not know what to write about this school. I don't recommend it to anyone. My child was a 5th grader and it was the worst experience of her life. The school almost ruined her self-confidence. One of their class has no fixed teacher for the whole year and there was a different substitude every weak. Academic achievement is the least priority. And students feel favourism. I believe this school is appropriate for a special type of people and it is not just for everyone. Search more before enrolling your child at this school.

It's amazing to me how Ms. Ibea Gomez, the Principal, can achieve such high standards while the State of California tells us it's broke. It's not broke, it just spends foolishly, in my view. That said, this is a TREMENDOUS school and I hope your children get an opportunity to go there. Both my boys go there. The teachers are very professional.

I am an alumni of this school and now my children go there. It is still a wonderful, caring, professional learning environment. This school needs a lot of help to be able to have what a lot of school have already. It would be great if they had a computer lab and a music/dance program.

I love Nestle Elementary because the teachers are very caring and considerate. They go above and beyond giving of their own time and buying their own supplies and working longer and harder than any teachers I know. The principal Mrs. Gomez is also terrific. It si a clean, safe and wellrun school and they get excellent testscores as well.

The Principal, Mrs. Gomez is really engaged with the students, the teachers, the staff and the Parents. Our children are at school not only to learn academics and excel at what they do, but also learn how to be good people/citizens/friends. This is often learned through the adults, teachers, and people around them. Mrs. Gomez demonstrates that to the teachers, students (and Parents) through good leadership, compassion, nuturing, encouragement, interaction, and creating a sense of community in the school. We find all of this necessary for a school to be successful, and are happy to be part of it. Nestle Avenue Elementary is also a great example of a school willing to evolve and try new things to benefit our kids' experience at school.

It is a very good school academically. Teachers are highly qualified and put a lot of efforts. The principal is very nice and friendly women as well. The only drawback is the fact that the parents are divided into subgroups that rarely communicate with each other. If you aren't a part of those subgroups you feel alienated somewhat.

Great school, I've had lots of fun in the years I was there. I recommend all parents to provide this school for there children, except if your child has some special needs or is somewhat not like the other children then you should not because when I was there I remember some people were a little mean to others that are not necessarily 'normal'. There is absolutely no fights, no gangs, no sexual contact and such, but there is some immaturity, though of course thats understandable because they are only so young. Hope this helped some of you parents. :) PS. I forgot to mention that there is no use of drugs and alcohol, and there are lots of funny, and nice teachers.

Excellent Academic program! Just look at the API scores go up each year. Nestle is one of the top scoring schools in the District. Besides the California State Standards, the school offers so much more. They won a grant from NASA and the children are learning and exploring about space through this partnership. Astronomy Nights, Rocket Day, Robotics, and visits by astronauts and cosmonauts are just a few of the extraordinary activities! Arts Prototype Program allows every child to have lessons in all 4 art forms during the year and artwork is submitted to Valley-wide art Shows. Check out the beautiful garden where students raise chickens, grow flowers, and plant and harvest a bountiful variety of fruits and vegetables all year long. The staff members are excited about their profession and strive to bring the best to each child. Classrooms are beautiful and playground newly repainted. A beautiful neighborhood school!

After all the horrible things you hear about public schools I am happy to say they don't hold true at Nestle Ave. My child completed kindergarten there and has learned so much and is still excited about school. No school is perfect, but I think Nestle tries very hard and is succeeding. They stress academics, but find a balance by providing art and dance classes. The teachers work very hard and do the best they can. They take field trips and use hands on learning experiences. In my opinion, the only thing that needs some work is for some of the parents to care as much as the school -- follow the rules, respect others.

My son completed first grade at Nestle and he had the most wonderful teacher. We have been so happy with this our neighborhood school. Only thing I wish we had more of was more Parent involvement to strengthen our Booster club. The after school enrichment program is excellent and well organized. This is where my son gets most of his art, music and other extracurricular activities from. Nestle was also awarded the honor of being recognized as one of California's distinguished school.

More important than the physical attributes of an open & spacious campus, with a renovated auditorium and new library, our teachers are genuinely interested in teaching and providing our students with a character based education. Students are rewarded for intiative and kindness as well as good academics. Art, Science and physical fitness are areas that are focused on during the school day, not just as 'extras'. Teachers work together with parents to bring about exciting school events. The many volunteers at our school are never seen publicly. We're not about just raising money, but that kind of parent participation(read fund rasing)is increasing with the support of our principal and encouragement by the current PTA& Booster Club officers. Our school is the recipient of many awards and grants-most importantly my children excelled last year in the preschool program and 1st grade and are excited to return to the dynamic enviornment.

I was very excited with this school when I first enrolled my child back in September 2004. And now it is June and the year has come to an end. My child will not be returning to this school next year. A large percentage of the parents in this school don't get involved in school activities such as, volunteering. Many parents use the school as a form of daycare. I believe parents play a very large role in a school's success. I believe this school will become better once staff supports one another and parental involvement increases. Extracurricular activities are available yet very expensive. From speaking to other parents that have children enrolled in such programs, they are merely dissapointed. With the effort of the teacher and my envolvement with the school, I am greatful for all that my child has learned this year! THANK YOU.

Overall a fair school. Good teachers. The fact that my daughter is in the gate programm has helped us overcome the initial shock after transfeing from a private school. There are a lot of talented kids in the gate programm that makes the teacher job a lot easier. This year the Booster club has done a lot to provide lots of activities for school. We are a little disappointed for lack of participation by oter parents, but the situation has improved a lot during the last two years.
