There's not much to say about this school, other than it is by far under-rated. The teachers are always there for the students, offering help educationally, or with any personal problems they may have. This school has recieved many honors of the past few years, and our sports teams have all showed the likes of a Division I school. The only thing lacking in the school is parent involvement. I am apart Link Crew, which is a crew of upperclassman that encourage incoming freshman as well as any transfer students to get involved, along with their parents. Some parents stay and listen, but many just drop their kids off, and pick them up when its over. Maybe its the times, maybe its not 'cool' to have you parents with you, but that is deinitly something this school needs.

As a student of Tulare Union, I have an inside view of actual events taking place in the school. Our academic program is of the highest consent, and teachers actually try to get students involved and learn not only bookwork views of subjects, but how they can be applied to everyday life. As to extra-curricular activities, Tulare Union is bar-none. Last year being local runner up in Mock Trial & Science Olympiad; and part of state competition in FBLA, FFA, and History Day. Our sports programs have also won numerous titles. Our sports teams (ranging from football to golf to cross country) have won over 5 valley championships in the past two years. The Redskin band, is also another fundamental part of the school, and has brought home several first place trophies ranging from Canada, Hawaii, and the Olympics. It has also recieved the best dressed band in the U.S. Yet with all these illustrious talents, help is needed, and at Tulare Union parent involvment is key. I personally know, as a band member, that we have at least 15 parents who put in numerous hours to allow us to compete and pay for numerous fees. Safety and discipline are very important to our prestigious school. We have numerous security guards around the campus ensuring that the campus remains safe, and several guides and rules found in every classroom to help keep a safe environment. We have several teahcers and officials of the school who check students who walk by, and pull anyone out of the crowds who is being obscene or distractive to the student environment. So discipline is heavily enduced. Overall Tulare Union is one of the best high schools of the California Central Valley.

There is not a strong 'culture of education' in this community. Parents need to be prepared to provide this at home if they want their children to excell. Teachers can only do so much. An excellent education can be obtained if the parents are willing to be involved with their children and coach them. Yet if you can foster a love of learning and a culture of education at home, your child will stand out in a very positive way at this school.

Going from a small country elementry school to a city high school was like a cultral shock both to myself and my boys. Though this schools API scores are great, I believe that teaching students should be top priorty! The parent involvement is scarce and uninviting. Best aspects would be the music and other extracurricular activities. Worst problem is school doesn't uphold its own rules and regulations,,example dress code and student conduct.
