The principal was ABSOLUTELY deficient in leadership and social skills. Most of the teachers appeared to be proficient but they were demoralized and frustrated by an overbearing and tone-deaf principal (I had the misfortune of landing in the classroom of the two worst teachers for my child's grade level). Parent participation was forced, mandatory, and quite cliqueish-I would show up, sign in, and leave after my presence had been noted-I WAS MISERABLE! I pulled my child out of that school as fast as I could run after one year-I would have left at the end of the first month if it had been possible and there were several other parents who followed suit. Due to GreatSchools Rules of Use I can not name the principal & teacher who contributed to the miserable experience that I and a few other parents suffered through but I will say that we were there during the 2010-2011 school year-WHAT AN UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE!!!
LOve this school , great teachers, great principle, my son has been at VCS since it opened, would go to no other school. As he says," I love it " . Also has great after school programs and regular art and dance classes.
My son loves it here. I love it. The way learning is implemented through expeditional learning makes it fun and exciting for the kids. We are very fortunate to be part of this wonderful community.
VCS is a school that was pioneered by parents that wanted a better education in a California that has failed to make education a priority. VCS has also overcome the odds of residing in a bankrupt city while still increasing the school's API score by 8.5%. This is a school that teaches that all students, faculty and parents are 'crew members, not passengers' and truly lives up to that statement. I'm proud that my daughter attends VCS as it represents that we do have the power to go against the grain and beat the odds.
Our kids get to learn and express themselves in a complete whole sense.
I love the hands on learning, the staff if very Knowledgeable anf profesional.
It's innovative, and even in it's infancy it's doing fantastically well.
Vallejo Charter School is made of dedicated parents, teachers and staff that go above & beyond to ensure the success of our school. The Expeditionary Learning at our school makes a big impact on our children's education that is reflected in their respect for one another and the involvement in our diversed community. I am so grateful my children and my family are a part of this school.
Vallejo Charter School is a wonderful place for children, families, and staff to grow and learn together. If I could have designed a school, it would have been this one. The Design Principles guide us to help not only our school, but our community and world.
I came all the way across the country to get to teach at VCS. It was worth it and then some!! The staff, students, and familes are simply the best!
