Welby Way is a true gem. The staff really understands what it means to educate our children. The teachers have high academic expectations, but they also focus on finding creative and innovative ways to teach. They care about helping the children become well-rounded people who care about the world. There is always a schoolwide activity going on. Living a block away from school, I see teachers and the principal at school late at night and on the weekends working or attending a school event on a regular basis. Even with the harsh budget cuts over the past two years, the school has managed to keep the music teacher, ballroom dancing, computer program, and the PE program. Everyone really cares and my children love going to school.
As a concerned parent who has been actively involved it is hard to say the truth about this school. Unfortunately the school is on a downhill path with an admin who only cares about test scores and wants to cancel all art and extra curricular programs. I question the schools test scores, teacher hiring practices, and overall future. It was once a great place and I am glad that my children will soon be moving on.
The Magnet program is comprehensive and gives a solid base for Middle School. Although LAUSD is in crisis and the school does not escape from budget problems, the POWW ( Parents Association ) contributes in many way to keep the standards high.
Welby is a great academic environment. My daughter started last year in full day Kindergarten and coming from private preschool I was skeptical. The teachers are very in tune and the small class sizes coupled with strong parental involvement make it easy to understand the high test scores. I would like to emphasize this school has strong parental involvement. All parents give both cash and time to the school. With N=22 kids in her kindergarten class and three slots per day for volunteers it takes everyone. ;)
The teachers and programs are first-rate and everyone makes you feel like you are a part of a family.
The teachers, the adminstrative staff, and all the families that make up the community that is Welby Way. It has been, and continues to be, a meaningful and memorable learning experience for my child. I can't say enough good things about Welby Way Elementary School.
Welby Way is a warm and secure school with excellent teachers who provide the necessary tools for an enriching education.
Very strong parental involvement. Good teachers and good Magnet program. Well organized, positive environment, and good disciplinary school policy.
Welby Way has the finest Teachers I have ever encountered. The parental involvment is outstanding.
The dedication of the the teachers and administrative staff is inspiring. The students are challenged but not pressured. There is a sense of community and caring at Welby Way that is hard to find these days.
The teachers, administration and the high level of parent involvment continue to make Welby Way a great school.
Welby Way is a great school. Amazing teachers, principal and staff. Very high parent involvement. Every child should have the opportunity to attend Welby. Our family feels very fortunate to attend Welby Way and be part of the Welby family. The education my child has received far exceeds any education he would have received at a private school. Afterschool program offers an array of classes. Bottom line is my child loves school. Lesley R.

Welby Way has great parent involvement and teachers and administrators that really care. Every teacher we have had has been amazing.
Good schools are becoming rare. We need to keep all that we can to continue to help shape our kids for our future.
Innovative, highly academic, programs that develop social skills as well as an all around education. Great Teachers and Staff. High parent participation,
