Concerned about the direction the school is heading. We lost some awesome staff members, I don't feel the administration has a good pulse on the school.

we moved here from Oregon in what was considered an "excellent" school. my first grade twins were VERY far behind when we started here at OV but with the expectations this school has set and the amazing work of their first grade teacher, my girls have grown leaps and bounds in just 10 weeks! i cannot wait to see where they are after next year!! i love that OV makes going to college such a priority! every week my girls are talking about where they might like to go! it's never too early to plan!!

This is a fantastic school. Every teacher my daughter has had in the 6 years she has been attending OV has been stellar. Her testing scores continue to go up each year; and I'm highly impressed with the caring and nurturing nature of the school.

my child attened OV elementary becuase we heard great things about the school but we found it to be the complete opposite. My child is now attending a new elementary school and we could not be happier. On several ocassions I inquired about after school tutoring or any other programs that were offered by OV and i come to find out there was none. There was no after school programs for the students academic or athletic. The Admin needs to take courses/training for people skills espcially the principal and they also need to take courses on how to accept children from different ethnic backgrounds. I would not recomend OV. BEWARE of the admin!!!

I used to be a Student there, Now I'm in high school and in a differen't city but, The time I had here was great. If you're new to the area I reccomend this school. The staff is really polite and nice to everyone, and they're easy to talk to if you're kid is a shy guy, like I was.

Great School, Third Grade co-teacher is of great concern! The team needs to be in boot camp not teaching third graders, we are not the only family that has a horror story with the team teachers, Beware!!

My daughter has attended Oceanview since Kinder. We have been very happy, especially with Mrs. Couso and Mrs. Kinard-Blair. She will now go into 3rd grade, and I hope our success continues!

Ocean View has recently changed administration. As we celebrated our beloved principal's promotion to asst. superintendent we were apprehensive about the new change. There was no need to worry. Ms. Tryon is great. The teachers seem to rally behind her making a great Parent - teacher - administrative team.

My daughter just finished kinder and had Miss Boyd and Mrs Couso. I was very pleased with the school and transition of teachers. My daughter has learned to read and write complete sentences. I loved the kinder teachers and would tell parents to send their child to Ocean View.

Ocean View is a great school with a dedicated and caring staff. I have a 7th grader who attended K-5 and a 3rd grader. Students are challenged academically and encouraged to do their best. Special days that provide hands on learning (ex. Early Calif. Day or Colonial Day) are held for each grade level. GATE classes are available for students that qualify and tutoring is available to students that need help. The staff is responsive to the needs of all the students. Extracurricular activities (Leadership Club, chorus, yearbook) are geared to the 4th & 5th graders. All students attend Meet The Masters art assemblies, Science On The Go Assemblies and field trips. The PTA is very active and provides support and funding for many of the programs and holds several family events during the year.

High standards and a great deal of pressure on kids to perform. Excellent principal, but some teachers are overstressed and lack good communication skills. Extracurricular activities are insufficient. Parental involvement is spotty. There is a choir, a minimal art program, and some PTA activities. I would not move to the district for this school. I would, instead, look for a better school in a better neighborhood with more resources if given the opportunity to choose. Also, some teachers lack committment.

Both my children attended K-5 and we were extremely impressed with the administration, teachers, and quality of instruction. My children were both quite different and the staff treated each as an individual rather than assuming they had the same talents and challenges. My eldest had more emphasis on writing which I miss now that the Open Court system is used. My youngest doesn't have the writing ability as my eldest, but he did score extremely well on Cat 6 reading comprehension, which was most likely due to the Open Court system. The extracurricular GATE activities were excellent and enjoyed by both my sons. We miss this school and the wonderful staff.

I was not impressed with this school. My daughter attended this school, and I had heard such great things detailing Reading Counts to the teachers. I found it to be mediocre at best. My daughter now attends Whittier Christian.

Great school but the very high standard curriculum may be difficult for some parents with academically challenged kids. Though the staff is extremely helpful and caring our son had a very difficult time with their advanced curriculum and had to drop to a lower class when he transferred into this school.

My son went here for 4 years and he and my family loved it. Unfortunately we moved out of the area in his last year. I was always impressed with the teachers and the school system, as well as the academics.

Nice neighborhood school with caring, committed teachers. The facilities are average. Great fields and play areas, however lacking in library /computer lab space. My son went to Kindergarten and had a terrific learning experience that I would rate as superior. However, I was discouraged by parent involvement in the class. From what I was told this was unusual for the school and generally the families were very involved and generous with their volunteer efforts.

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
