All I can comment on is the administration, which seems to be lacking... for over two years I have had to complain about messages left on my answering machine about a child I don't have either missing classes or having detention. Despite multiple conversations with their staff, the problem has yet to be remedied. That such a small detail cannot be fixed- which does affect this school's relationship with the family, as it is not aware of the child's absences/detentions- does not instill any confidence in any of the school's other responsibilities.

Great students. Great Teachers. Awful Principal that takes too much credit for the work the dedicated teachers do. I am a graduate that is now at one of the best 4-year universities in the state of California. I can honestly say that my success was due to the dedicated Teachers not at all to the Principal who made certain aspects of high school miserable.

HTPA is not for everyone. The students here are extremely motivated and must find this motivation within themselves in order to accomplish what the school offers; earning an AA degree and a great education. The teachers here care a lot about the students well being, both personal and academic. Being such a small school, everyone is also able to get to know each other very well and as a result one is able to make some life long friendships. Students here can accomplish anything they set their minds too. The graduating class of 2008, which consisted of about 65, had 6 students accepted to UC Berkeley, 10 to UCLA, 1 Harvard, and many other universities. In addition, more than half of the graduating class received there AA degree.

This may be a highschool in which a student can graduate with a AA and HS diploma but there are a good portion of students who do not achieve this. Many students loiter around the comunity college(CC) campus and for two hours in the morning (since school starts at 10 am) wasting valuable education time. The language courses are all offered through the CC and if the parent does not have a WIDE open schedule the childs choices become very limited. This also applies for higher level math courses, english courses & for that matter the courses necessary for the child to receive their AA. The parents role is very important & the child depends on strong involvement when the scheduling of CC courses are involved; my daughter took many afternoon classes that ended at 9:15pm, sat. classes, & summer classes. I saw many parents and students fall short here.

Harbor Teacher Prep is a great school for students who can be motivated (either by their parents or the educators at Harbor Prep). My daughter and I stumbled in the beginning but the rewards are tremendous once you see your student hit their stride. As I was in the office handling by daughters' paperwork for her junior year I was surprised to see parents whose children had attended the schools Summer Bridge Program checking their children out because they had decided that the program was too strenuous. I would urge any parent to give HTPA a chance to help their children excel now and in the future. HTPA does its best to give your child every available tool to succeed. What more could any parent ask for in a school?

This is a great school in which to learn in. Since its class sizes are very small students can easily get help if needed. Great school with 100% of students graduating.

As A Graduate from HTPA. (Harbor teacher Preparation academy) I have to say that while some of the students are not quite fond of the some members in the faculty as well as the principle they are all very dedicated. All of the teachers or at least the ones that i had were very dedicated to their work. The Principle, Mattie Adams has a good plan that is applied but the atmosphere isnt really that of a normal high school. Its to isolated from the rest of the campus and with such a small amount of students, school events are not as active as you may expect.

This program allows students to receive an AA degree at the same time as a High School Diploma. I wish it was around when I went to high school.

The quality of programs offered in this high school is of excellent caliber. The college atmosphere provides a stimulating school. There isnt much racial diversity with most studnets coming from hispanic or African American backgrounds.
