Our girls went to private school for 3 years and Brown is by far a better school in all our estimates! The community involvement really seems to keep them feedback and they respond by challenging the children and parents with more excellence! Good job everyone for making this the best grade school in the Highlands!

Our family has been at Brown for the past 6 years. It is a wonderful community of families, and the teachers, support staff, and front office staff are top-notch. The Principal is committed and caring and very approachable to parents and students alike.

We came to Brown last year because of its "flooding" reading coupled with Accelerated Reading, and regular staff meetings to review student progress. For "flooding" and AR, students are grouped by where they are actually reading or in math, not by their grade level. Then, staff meet regularly to adjust educational plans based on what is actually happening. Our child has an IEP (needs extra support) due to illness. We feel strongly that Brown's systematic approach inherently will adapt to her needs - whether she needs more time or more challenge. The Brown community is building and growing with many parents volunteering and growing the PTO as well as other volunteer initiatives. Last Spring's volunteer breakfast had more than 50 attending... with more than 100 invitations sent. We're very happy to be part of this up and coming school and its community.

We selected Brown because they offered the IB curriculum. Our daughter is in 1st grade and started Brown in ECE (prekinder). We are very happy with her academic achievement already this year. She also likes to discuss events or topics that affect the planet and society over dinner. If raising a child to be aware of the world around them is important to you, I highly recommend this school. Academically it has been on an upward trajectory since revitalization. There is a great story behind the scores.

The school community at Brown is outstanding. I have a 1st grader and kindergartner and I feel very supported as a parent. The teachers are very caring and dedicated to providing more than just standard learning materials. My favorite aspect is the school's endeavors to make the kids feel like they are responsible for others as well as themselves, and that they are part of a larger community than their small sphere of classroom activities.

Our child has been attending Brown for two years now, and we have been thrilled by the teachers and the learning that is taking place. My child had a wonderful teacher for Kindergarten, and this year had an amazingly-talented first-grade teacher. Classes were large this year, but the teacher clearly had the respect of her students and the classroom environment was friendly and orderly. My child's reading has improved dramatically, from barely reading to reading at above a 2nd-grade level at the end of the year! In math, he has also exceeded expectations, despite his short attention span. The principal is very approachable and visible in the hallways and the office staff is super friendly.

When we selected Brown we were so excited about the IB curriculum. What we soon found out is that the curriculum is not at all challenging; our 1st grader is bored! The apathy in the classroom is also a problem, and it clearly affects children who are eager to learn and excited about school. I am not impressed and my experiences with the principal have not been good. I do have to say, the Kinder team is great, but it's a big disappointment afterward.

We are so happy that Brown is our neighborhood school! Great things are happening both inside the classroom and outside of the classroom. There are many hardworking teachers at Brown committed to providing a solid education for all students in our community. The staff(including the teachers, office staff, paraprofessionals, administrators) and parents of Brown are working together to make our neighborhood an even better place to live!

My wife and I heart Brown. The PTO is fantastic and is a fun and lively group of people. The fundraisers that we have done in the past 6 months really have been fun. My daughter is in Ms. Shannahans first grade class and we love her as a teacher. Sheri in the office is amazing, I don't know what I would do with out her guidance and support. Brown really is a community and I look forward to watching my daughter and the Brown community grow as she advances through elementary school.

When we visited Brown we knew right away that this was the school for our family. The staff is upbeat, forward thinking and committed. Susanne, the principal, is amazing - she runs the school like a business and in this day and age in the DPS realm that is the only way a school will survive. The staff & parents have brought so many programs to the school - a dental program, salad bar, fruit for every child ever day, community garden to name a few. The reading program is amazing. We also love the parent community at school. We feel so lucky to be part of Brown.

We love this school for both of our children. The IB curriculum is just what we were seeking in a school program - the IB attitudes reflect our own values, the topics the kids are studying are relevant to today's world, the after-school activities are excellent, and the school's approach to testing (taking a holistic approach to assessments rather than relying on CSAPs alone) are all wonderful qualities in a school. We love the parent community at Brown, too. We can think of no other school we'd rather send our kids to.

My daughter has been attending since ECE and she has loved ever part of her experience. The teachers are very supportive and proactive as well as the staff. I don't know how I would survive without their 'go to' staff. All in all....I am grateful to have found this hidden gem of a school.

We're new to Brown this year, our daughter is in ECE. We absolutely love everything about it - strong principal, wonderful teachers/staff, incredibly engaged, forward-thinking parent involvement and last but not least, the IB curriculum can't be beat. As world travelers ourselves, we love that our kids will understand their place in the world as a whole.

My daughter is in kindergarten @ Brown and I am so impressed by her teacher, Mr Tosston, as well as the faculty and school itself. The international awarness they promote in addition to the regular academics is what I was looking for in a school.

It is a relief to be done with this school. for 10 years my kids excelled at Brown. They had top scores and participated in amazing activites. They have both been accepted at top rated magnet schools. My daughter is featured on the web site, yet the actives she the school brags about took place before the regime change. It is sad that people take so much pride and joy in having participated in the redesign process that hurt so many kids. As for Brown you can have it, my family is on to better things.

This is a redesigned school, meaning the curriculum and the staff are new as of the 05-06 school year. In the past 2 years, there are many new and exciting things happening. As educated parents we have choices. Choose a school that fits with what you want for your children. This school IS what I want for my children; caring staff, commitment to excellence and continued growth, a challenging global curriculum, and positive momentum. If you want to be a part of shaping your child's education and experiences in an up and coming school, this is it.

If all it takes is a few after school programs (which are not even close to the quality that has been offered in previous years), a single spike in test scores and a garden to make you happy then Brown is the school for you! If you have a smart kid and you want him or her challenged go somewhere else! We used to have a full time challenge program, this year it is one afternoon a week. The IB curriculum used to be taught by a teacher with 20 years of experience teaching IB at one of the best programs in the state. We had one of the best DI/GT teachers in the district.

My son attends Brown and I am thrilled. The leadership is strong and there is a clear vision and purpose to what is going on in the school and the classroom. The IB program and the units the students are beginning to engage in are rich and really challenge my son to go beyond the basics and allow him to work at his own level. The before and after school offerings are diverse. Engineering Club in elementary school is a great opportunity. The parent involvement is increasing and has great potential as the school continues to grow and more and more people choice in.

HI I am a parent whose been at this school with children for many years. This school used to be so friendly and open for parents and students however the comfort level for this school has dropped down a considerable amount I find both principals to be rude and not caring. As for the level of learning it has dropped the teachers are constantly out of the building for training Subs are left to teach and extra curricular programs that were held to such a high standards in the past are no longer important or thrown together like slop. Brown is no longer a nice place to learn!

We have two children at Brown and are enthusiastic about the school, administration and teachers. Since the transition from a traditional to IB program two years ago academic performance at the school has shown 'significant improvement' according to state measures, and the primary focus has been on academics. As we continue to improve, I look forward to seeing more opportunities to involve parents and create a supportive community for families at the school. I'm especially excited about the establishment of a community garden at the school, which I see as an opportunity to create a living laboratory for our kids and a community resource for families. We highly value the diverse multi-cultural student body.

We have been very happy with our first year at Brown International Elementary! We have loved the teacher and the Principal and Vice Principal are amazing. I can't forget to mention the school nurse who has such an incredible passion for the school and for children in general. I am glad my child is learning some Spanish and the after school program is such an added benefit to the school. Parental involvement is coming along, but will only improve as time goes on and as the IB implementation process continues. I am very pleased with the spaciousness and environment in the art, music and Spanish rooms as well. Overall, we have been very pleased.

This used to be a good school. My kids were involved in Destination Imagination, We the People, Shakespeare and more. Since the teachers and principal were fired the school has gone down. In fifth grade my son was taking part in mock congressional debates, this year the fifth graders are learning the Electric Slide. In third grade my daughter participated in a play that traced the history of Denver from the Dinosours to modern day. This year they stand on stage and mouth the words to a sing along tape. Formula writing has replaced having books published by the Colorado Indpendent Book Publishers Association and winning state and local writing competitions. Many of the teachers are great, but they do not have the freedom to really challenge the kids, everything is about CSAP. Also this is supposed to be an IB school, my daughter go 9 weeks of foreign Language.
