Laurel is a wonderful school with great community spirit. We feel at home every time we walk into the school. We are greated by name and never treated like a number. My child is above grade level in all subjects and the teachers account for this and challenge her. This school has many extracuricular activities offered, such as violin, yoga and school trips. Laurel also teaches a great value system. I could go on and on. We love Laurel.
There are very dedicated teachers. The school has a diverse population (which is special in this town). And, there are great programs available for the kids, such as violin, school trips for the older kids and enrichment programs.
Excellent teachers, small class size and diverse ethnic and social background of students. I highly recommend this school because of the dedication of the staff and administration. They provided an excellent educational environment that has served my daughters well when they transitioned to the IB program in junior high.
I wanted to believe in my public school- I really did- but Laurel Elementary let our entire family down. There is no striving for excellence in any aspect of the school, only the slow grinding of mediocrity. The teachers are ill-equipped to deal with any above-average intelligence child, and will question their work as being their own. Poor scores, kids well below age level- it's a mess!
Laurel is a very good school. My child attended K and 1st grade there. We have since moved, so we can no longer attend and that makes me sad. Communication to and from the school was excellent. I felt like I always knew what was going on. Parent involvement was very good and was encouraged by the administration and staff. Possibly best of all was that the school treated you and your student as individuals. For example, my mother (the student s grandmother) came into town and picked up my child from school. In passing, the principle greeted my mother *by name*. Does your principal know your students name? How about your (out-of-town) parent s name?
