Solid academics, administration, sports, environment, facilities, faculty and an enjoyable experience for my student. Many great students as well.
I'm a Sophomore that goes to Vista, and I gotta say that this school is just about one of the best. The teachers are smart, and they know when you need a little push. The students are good and respect each other for the most part. Sure, we don't have the best sports, but our soccer last year we had 18-0 until the state finals. We got spirit with us, just go to a Vista football, basketball, or soccer game! I love the classes offered, it reaches out to the more artistic kind of kids, there is even a Creative Writing class that can have College credit with it. There's an awesome Theater, Choir, and Art program. We also pride ourselves in our sports, and we rarely put our sports down. Instead of finding a loss as bad, we find it as a good chance to do better next time.
I just finished my sophomore year at Vista and I completely LOVE my school! There's a great mix of students and everyone has people that relate to them. Mr. Steve Johnson was a fantastic principal my freshman and 1/2 of sophomore year! He is a truly great guy and it's sad that I won't have him for the rest of my high school career! Anyways, Mr. Weaver, the new principal, is just as great, if not better than Stevie J. I had Mr. Weaver for a semester in 4th grade when I moved here and I can imagine that he'll be as good of a principal for Vista as he was for Summit View. As for teachers, they are completely amazing! As with all schools, there are a few sour grapes, but they are rare. I happened to have a not so good math teacher this year, but with the support of my counselor and math teacher, I made it through! Vista offers so many AP and honors classes that there's something for everyone! I'm genuinely proud to say I go to Vista and couldn't imagine going to Rock Canyon, Ranch or especially TRidge! Our class of 2011 had at least one student get accepted to every Ivy League school and received over $8million worth of scholarships! I will be a proud Golden Eagle forever!(:
This year, they have laxed on the rules a little bit more--we have open campus and off periods. I am currently a senior at Vista, and I have had an overall great experience. I couldn't picture myself at Ranch or RC or especially TRidge. This is the place where academics and extracurriculars and faculty are all awesome! You just have to know how to get involved and be active in school. You have to go anyway, you might as well make the best of it!
I just graduated from Vista and I had an awesome experience. The academics were overall very good- the school has tons of AP and Honors classes to choose from. The vast majority of students attend four year colleges, with a large number going out-of-state. The performing arts department is spectacular- band, choir, orchestra, and theater are all very good at Vista. Sports are getting better as the school gets older. Teachers are of course hit and miss, as they are at every school, but I have had some really amazing teachers over the years. You can have a great experience at Vista if you get involved and make it a great experience!
I just graduated high school this year and let me say that it has been the worst 3 and a half years of my life. The lunches were terrible that I can barely eat anything without feeling sick to my stomach, the Teachers and the Faculty doesn't care about their students as they treat them like children and don't even care about the student's problems such as Homework and their difficulties while being in school, I had to change my appointment with my counselor more than 3 times in order to see her as she never followed the schedule, and worst of all I've been harassed by the other students and none of teachers done anything about it! I was so miserable in that school that I had to move somewhere else to go to a better school where they actually care about the students.
In terms of academics, I rated the school 5 stars as that's what I deem as the most important. It has many advance courses to choose from and many of the teachers are well educated. Even the equipment is advanced. Overall, I've learned so much that I would label MVHS as a prep school -- even though it's not private at all. On the other side, I agree with the others about the strictness of the administration. They really need to calm down. Additionally,, the art department recieves no where near as much attention as sports do. It's unfair if you ask me.
I am a graduate of this high school and i hate to say it but me and all my friends call it the prison. Not only do they have strict guidelines but the teachers don't help much in the way of homework. The administration is terrible and they treat the students like there children. I have to say that other than a few specific teachers i basically had to learn from the book. The only reason that vista is one of the higher ranked schools is because about 10 % of school get extremely high grades. It would be a much better school if the teachers became more involved and the guidelines loosened up a bit.
This years administration has made Mountain Vista a misserable experience. This is my second year at MVHS and its by far worsened this past year. If you want to be treated like a child all through your high school career then I guess this would be a good place for you. Staff here doesn't allow very much freedoms and try to exert authority over students whenever possible. I think Vista is a cool place with some really good techers but nobody there tries to get in touch with the student body to try solve issues. All in all I think MVHS is an OK school just administration must be improved along with many other things. And FYI Vista is REALLY strict, don't even try to pull the littlest things without getting cought.
In all honest the teachers, (and a large majority of the faculty) are great. I just find the lack of resposibility and freedom that the administration extends to its students appauling.
