This school at one time use to be considered one of the top elementary schools in Montrose. New changes to the school with a new principal have significantly dropped parent perception of the school. It seems the school does not feel the need to inform parents on what happens in the school especially about bullying incidences. Another point, recently, multiple parents were subject to ticketing by police officers in the school parking lot, as requested by the school principal for pulling into the school parking lot around the parked parents on the main road. Significant tickets were given to a large number of parents, no warning for something that has been done for 10+ years. A little vindictive for someone that has a job because of these parents' kids.

This school has a zero tolerance for imaginative play on the playground. There is no tag allowed, no IMAGINARY light sabers, no IMAGINARY guns, no IMAGINARY Droids/Villians to be a hero against and are NOT allowed by the playground duty staff. Young Children are demanded to stop their age appropriate play when they are only having fun and hurting no one. Yes this is in Montrose, CO, not in New York or Chicago.

I have been nothing but pleased with Cottonwood. Both of my children have thrived under the direction of teachers who truly care about their learning.

My son was 5 when he entered kindergarten and all the children were 5 and 6, appropriate ages unlike the 2009 review. His learning was so fast and well rounded with excellent communication between the teacher and parents. My son had an excellent experience and Mrs. Smuin is a wonderful teacher. He didn't read before starting and can read level 2 now.

Cottonwood is an excellent school. The teachers seem to genuinely care about the students. Any problems we had were quickly addressed. Great school!

The kindergarten is very structured without any toys or imaginative play. I wish it could have been more well rounded. We took our kindergartner out, maybe 1st is better, I don't know. Also there were 4 year old kids that started kindergarten! There were many very very young children so the acedemics were starting with learning the ABC's. My son was very board as he could already read.

cottonwood school is great school. My son went to the school since he was in first grade to fifth grADE.cottonwood has a wonderful academic programs. my son was in a lot of program that he need help any they were there for him when he needed the help.
