We have been very pleased with all of the teachers. The principle is an excellent leader.
I was really hoping to have a good experience at the school but unfortunately that wasn't the case. My son has a speech delay and was I felt bullied by the administration. We had to hire an outside tutor for both his speech and reading and has excelled with her but not in his classroom. The staff has told me that he will never be able to catch up. There is no communication from the staff unless they want to gang up on the parent to tell them all the things their child is doing wrong. We will be going to a different school next year. The PTA? Forget about it. You walk in and you do not feel valued or accepted at all.
My son and daughter both went K-6 at Lukas and I highly recommend the teachers, administration, and culture of learning, citizenship, safety, and fun. Both of my kids thrived there and I could not have asked for a better learning and growing environment than they recieved at Lukas. Kudos to the whole team. The teachers especially take a personal interest in each child and go the extra mile.
Principal and teachers really care about the students. School is very welcoming to parents, whether visiting or volunteering, and the school just feels 'happy.' Homework levels seems reasonable and I've always gotten quick responses from anyone I've contacted with questions. The teachers my daughter's had have gone out of their way to do what is best for her and we couldn't be more pleased with our experience so far. I have to agree about the PTA, though. How about a drawing for a $5.00 starb*cks gift card at each meeting, or something? At least that way it would seem like new parents were wanted at the meetings and might even get to introduce themselves? My experience was that the officers sat at their own table and did not greet or even acknowledge any new faces unless someone raised their hand to volunteer for something. :(
My daughter has been at the school for one year and will be going to 1st grade in Aug. She loves her teachers and the children. So far I don't have anything bad to say about the teachers, (too early to tell). But I will tell you this, the PTA really needs to open up to new ideas and welcome the new parents. As a new parent I felt very lost while in meetings and never really felt welcome- I hope there will be changes made this next year. Other wise, the school is great!
Great environment for children, large parental participation. My daughter has now been there 3 years and has thrived.
Excellent teaching staff. The past years principal was outstanding and I believe the replacement will be every bit as effective. Great environment, my child has thrived there. Very good parent involvement.
