The staff and teachers are remarkably accessible and communicative about administrative and academic issues. The class sizes are remarkably small creating strong teacher/student relationships and a healthy learning environment. Our child is not special needs so I can not address that topic. Extra curricular activities are not extraordinary (Scouting, limited sports programs) but I don't really expect that from an K-3rd Grade program.
This school is on top of education for both typical and special needs children. The focus on teaching manners and respect for others. They research issues and spend money where it should be spent. The work hard to do the right things.
I have three children that attend Litchfield Center School. They are all very happy there and I have found the teachers to be caring and accessible. I think that Center School has some truly excellent teachers. I have one child with special needs and his teacher this year has really helped to keep him forcused and happy. One area that I wish would change would be the students access to enrichment programs, but overall I have found Center School to be a great place to send my children
In the short time we have lived in the Litchfield area it is difficult to say what is not positive about Litchfield Centre School in comparison to the school my children attended before. I find the teachers eager to know and to explain to me the advances that my children are making without the all to often hyperbole that can accompany this sort of dedication to a young child's education. Their reading skills have accelerated; they talk about the physical activities they do and I've found that the teachers are accessible.
Yes, this is a blue ribbon school but it seems that the children are not allowed to be children and really do not enjoy school. Appropriate social skills are not stressed enough and issues often do not get addressed. Academics are highly stressed but they do not have the appropriate programs for kids with disabilities.
