Our son is graduated from Woodstock Academy and is an excellent student with a GPA of 3.8, but I must say that our overall experience in this institution has saddened us. He has had a handful of teachers that exemplify all that teachers should be...intelligent, caring, open-minded, and fair, but with that being said, in our experience there are many that are the complete opposite of this description. Our child is quiet and has had no discipline issue whatsoever, but he has witnessed the unfair treatment of the "have-nots" and has watched the "haves" get away with infractions that should have at least resulted in suspension or even arrest. An underlying vibe of prejudice and elitism permeates the culture of the school, which is baffling as this is in rural northeast Connecticut. There is the potential to be a great school, but without reform, this will not happen. If you have school choice in your area, please consider ALL of your surrounding schools.
My son attended the Woodstock school systems and they are excellent! They are great at taking a challenged child from prek and helping him throughout adolescence in preparing him for college. BRAVO Woodstock Public Schools!!! You have paved the way for another success story. Thank you!
My daughter transferred from here after a month into her freshman year. Everyone is stuck up and the teachers were terrible. We are much more satisfied with NFA, where she is now attending 11th grade
I graduated from WA in 2006, and thought my time there overall was well spent. I am about to graduate from a great art school, and the art department at WA more than prepared me for it. WA has a wonderful music/drama/art department, and effective college prep classes and programs, those are its strengths. Sports and the administration are perhaps its biggest weaknesses.
I just want to say i graduated from the academy in 07 and am a college student now. The quality of education is much better than many other high schools around, and it prepares you extremely well for college. Sports are okay, but i would highly recommend the school
My oldest child went here, and her two other siblings go to NFA and the third is planning on going to NFA. My oldest child had a terrible experience here and it was just simply put as bad education, only a few extra-curricular activities, and a lot of bullies and mean students. Almost every day my child would come and say that there was another fight in school today.
I go to school at the Acdemy and feel that the education level is high and that the school is great. The phone zone is a wonderful addition.
Not a bad school, but definately not that great. Headmaster is not liked by many students and some faculty, and feels the need to throw his weight around. Most teachers are pretty good, but like anywhere else there are a handful of ones to avoid. School is definately pretty concerned with academics and drama/music stuff, but pays little attention to athletics. Almost all sports teams (with the exception of golf) are very poor.
As a future teacher in CT, Woodstock Academy has wonderful support for the arts and demonstrates an invested interest in the upcoming changes education will take.
I attended WA until my junior year and never really thought anything special of it or that it provided any above average benefits than a typical highschol. However, after moving to another state and consequently attending two different highschools my senior year, I came to realize that WA is significantly better than normal highschools. Not only are courses and programs more organized, structured, and enriching, but WA prides itself on hiring exceptional teachers, which make all the difference in learning not only subject material, but about life and the world. I am about to graduate college, and the effective rigor of WA courses and instruction more than prepared me for excelling in college. Tucked away in the quiet and beautiful northeast corner of Connecticut creates a perfect atmosphere for any young adult to gain a privledged and almost elitest learning experience, instillng a life long sense of pride: Go Centaurs!!!!
