Good academics. Strict, and at times unreasonable and harsh, discipline. Good Christian families. Some great teachers, some not-so-great.
I have been attending Tall Oaks from first grade and am now a Junior at the school. The feeling of community and family at Tall oaks is amazing, I feel as if my class is my family. The headmaster and principle can be seen around any corner and are open to discussions about any problem you may have with the school and will address them as they deem fit. They are also found at many of the sporting events cheering for the students. The teachers are most certainly harsh but still love you. The expect the absolute best from you and will go out of their way, staying after school and during lunch to help you grasp the concepts. We are taught to think for ourselves, but in a way that still glorifies God. I cannot think of a single class in which we do not discuss how God pertains to that subject, including math! Overall, Tall Oaks is a very well rounded school that has changed my life for the better.
I have a high schooler and a first grader at Tall Oaks, and I find the atmosphere at the school to be so pleasant and refreshing!!! Students are taught to do their personal best and to encourage and support their fellow students. The stressful haze of cutthroat competition between students (and their parents) that permeates many academically demanding schools is absent at Tall Oaks. There is no such thing as a "gifted and talented" program for the "chosen few" because ALL the students are treated as being highly capable. Most courses are what would be considered "honors level" at other schools. Students who have difficulty with a particular course are offered extra help and encouragement from teachers (and parents) rather than being offered a simplified version of the class. Surprise, surprise - it turns out that all the students are able to withstand the rigors of a challenging academic program! Did I mention that Tall Oaks has a diverse population? It is a joy to see the loving friendships at the school between children of different backgrounds. (I notice the same thing among parents at school meetings.) Tall Oaks is a Christian school with a truly Christian atmosphere!
My son will be graduating next week. He will be going to UD in the fall. I feel with the high academic standard at Tall Oaks he is very well prepared for success. We are very happy with the leadership and teaching staff as well. The students are highly motivated and encourage each other.
We couldn't have imagined how Tall Oaks Classical School(TOCS) would affect our family in so many positive ways. When enrolling our children several years ago, we believed we were giving them the best Christian, liberal arts education available. What we have discovered over the years is that our children are learning how to process information, think critically about and identify fallacies when taking in both the written and spoken word. Because of the classical Christian education they are receiving, our children are confident about what they know and are able to share and defend it in an articulate, humble manner. We have noticed that graduates from TOCS have a great many reasons to be proud and puffed-up, but they are among the most humble young people we have known. Another benefit of having our children at TOCS is that they are among a wonderfully diverse population!
I'm a senior at Tall Oaks, and i love it. The quality of the academics is better than any of the schools my other friends go to. In addition to the acadmeics, i love the environment here, i have great friends, and there is always something to do (Which is remarkable for a high school of <50 kids). Also, Tall Oaks is becoming an even more well-rounded institution as it is beginning to provide more and more sports teams, and extra-curricular activities. I will miss and appreciate my time here greatly.
Tall Oaks Classical School is a diamond in the rough. Both of my kids go to school here. We as parents love the education that are children are receiving. They are taught to be critical thinkers and to stand and operate according to God's word. Every child is impressive at the school. Polite, mannerly and very well spoke. The teachers are top notch and they all care about the children's well being. If my child is spending 1/3 of their day out of my presents and sphere of influence, I can not think of a better place for them to be. This school ranks academically, in my opinion, above Friends, Tatnall, Tower Hill, Sanford and the likes.
What I appreciate most about Tall Oaks is that the students are taught how to think, not what to think. They offer a rigorous classical and Christian education. The teachers are the best. The sense of community is strong. As of the 2007-2008 school year there is a strong extracurricular program that offers many possibilities including music, sports, drama, literature discussion groups and others. There is also a large and varied summer program and after school care until 5:30. I love Tall Oaks, and wish I could be a kid again so I could benefit from the education Tall Oaks offers.
We first started our children at Tall Oaks 9 years ago, and our enthusiasm for the school and amazement at God's blessing upon His school continues to grow. The board, administration and teachers truly seek to come alongside the parents to give the students an excellent, God-focused, Christ-centered education of His world in every subject. The high school classes resemble the classes I experienced in college and graduate school, teaching the student to think and defend their position, rather than just learn the facts in order to pass a test, as so many schools do today. The elementary teachers are beyond compare. Any parent desiring that their children really learn to think deeply about God's world should thoroughly investigate this hidden gem.
I appreciate how the curriculum is integrated throughout all subject matter. Study of the classics brought real meaning to my child's literacy experience. A high level of Parent involvement makes my child's enrollement a family experience.
My daughter is receiving a top quatlity christian education at Tall Oaks. It is a biblicly centered classical education, and it produces amazing results. My daughter is already founded strongly in her biblical pricnipals and has an unbielvable accidemic base. This school is outstanding and I reccomend all to come and visit and see for yourseld you will be truly amazed.
This is a classical and Christian school with small classes (6 to 14 kids per class)and excellent teachers. There is a great Chhristian worldview taught in every level. The academics are excellent and rigorous. The only drawback is the lack of extracurricular activities.
Tall Oaks offers top quality education and is truely Christ centered. We love it!
