We just moved here from out of state and came from a very highly rated school. So far our experience has been HORRIBLE. Starting from the first phone call to the school to get information about how to register my two Elementary aged children. The person who answered the phone was rude and unhelpful. I finally gave up and called the county office. My younger son cried every night the first three weeks of school. "Curriculum night" consisted of the teachers telling us what would be the same as last year (which meant nothing to me as we were not here last year) and using a lot of acronyms we are not familiar with as we just moved here out of state. I keep having people tell me what a great school it is, but everyone except my older son's fifth grade teacher and the after school care (ATB) staff has been rude, unfriendly, and UNBELIEVABLY unhelpful! If this is what passes for a highly rated public school in FL, I am worried we made a mistake moving here!

my daughter went to water's edge elem from 1-5th grade. In kindergarten she was at del prado elementary. I have to say water's edge elementary is like a well oiled machine. Starting from the time I dropped her off to the time I picked her up. Most of her teachers were excellent. When I saw a previous post, I was surprised to see that someone would take their child out of an excellent public school and into one of the most expensive private schools around. She is lucky to be able to afford that option, but as a teacher myself, I have to say water's edge elementary is the best education (public or private) that they can give their child.

I find it interesting that when I began researching this school, the most recent posts where mainly on the same day or within a couple of days from the August 3rd posting. I began inquiring and found out that the principal requested that the PTA write reviews because there were some bad reviews that had been written previously. No school should have to resort to that level for a good rating or review.

I looked at this site before my daughter started school. Now she has almost completed Kindergarten so I thought I should leave a review here... She is in the gifted program. We could not be happier! I was worried about the transition from preschool, but the teacher has been amazing. Loving, caring and great at teaching too. My daughter has learned some amazing stuff this school year. Writing like a "big kid", some pretty advanced math and reading of course. She loves going to school. Agree with other reviews that the staff are always friendly and the principal does actually seem to know everyone by first name. I was shocked when she said my daughter's name in the morning one day... The teacher always replies to email straight away if there is an issue. No bullying that I have heard of or seen. My only issue is that lunch is very early for K. Apart from that we love Waters Edge! Anna Firestone

Not sure on a rating yet... My daughter will be starting next year. I have to say I do see a lot of complaining about the FCAT??? In High School, College and beyond to Graduate and Professional Studies it is a requirement to take standardized testing in order to gain entry to your desired program. I for one am thrilled that my child will be taught study habits and actually have to study in order to take a standardized test effectively. Examples of standardized testing... MCAT, LSAT, DMAT, ACT etc. Better to learn the study habits now where it is second nature. The issue I am concerned about is the bullying I have read about. If I witness this not only with my child, but with another I guarantee I WILL be heard, and I will NOT go away until it is handled. Unacceptable.

Ten new "parents" comments in two days...hmmm...someone trying to fix this rating? Perhaps staff? And parents "choosing" a public school is interesting. Our daughter was in gifted kindergarten to second; the curriculum was the same. School didn't know what to do with highly gifted child who also had a learning disability. Our daughter thrived this past year at St. Andrews- so much friendlier and pleasant experience.

My son will be starting his third year at Waters Edge Elementary this year. We LOVE this school. The principal knows the kids by name and I always willing to stop and discuss whatever is on your mind. The office staff is first rate, always willing and able to answers questions and help out in anyway they can. The teachers are great! My son has loved his teaches each year. The teachers take the time to be involved in all aspects of the child's development. Communication with the teachers has been wonderful! Truly a great experience. The PTA at the school is second to none. The PTA has so many events for the kids, it really feels like a community! Waters Edge is a wonderful experience. We are very happy that we chose this school.

Since day 1 at Waters Edge Elementary my son and I have had great experiences! Starting in kindergarten and now going to 5th grade the time has flown by! The staff has be friendly and always make my son comfortable in knowing that someone is there that he knows. I also am relieved that there is someone my son can go to if he needs to, he is never alone. The activities the schools has throughout the year are a great way to bring the school together no matter what grade. They are also involved in the community through the PTA, the parents at Waters Edge are always there to help and they do so in a lot of ways! My family has made many friends at Waters Edge and are happy to be apart of it!

In Palm Beach County you have some choices about the public school you attend. I stressed over that decision. Attending Waters Edge was by far the best decision I made. Having twins and trying to make a choice for two different kids is tough, but Waters Edge has not only met their needs but exceeded them. There is no other school in Palm Beach County that I would want to attend. The principal is always available. From our first week there she knew them by name. The staff at the front office could not be more friendly. They are professional and have the school running smoothly on a daily basis. The quality of the teachers are second to none. I feel truly blessed to be a part of the Waters Edge Community. The impact they have had on my children will be felt for many years to come.

This will be my 6th year at Waters Edge. I have 2 students currently attending. I LOVE the school. The teachers and staff are incredible. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcome. The parent and volunteer involvement is very strong. There is a strong sense of community. Once again, an "A" rated school, I feel so lucky that this is our school! It's been a great experience.

This will be my third year with Waters Edge and could not be happier. The teachers are terrific and are very committed to their students. The Principal is approachable and friendly and done great things for this school. The level of parent involvement at Waters Edge is amazing. The best school in the area in my opinion.

Waters Edge has been a great school!!! Just like every school it depends on the teachers, support staff and parents!! Waters Edge has that!!!! Lots of parent involvement as well as school staff support it is definitely a warm friendly environment. My family has been very happy so far and we are looking to another exciting year at Waters Edge.

Water's Edge is an excellent school. My husband and I spent a lot of time comparing schools in palm beach county before finally choosing Water's Edge. And, I couldn't be happier with our choice! My sons have had amazing teachers who have been involved in all aspects of their growth. I've even had teachers show up at both my son's sports games to show their support! The school has always encouraged and supported my involvement; something that I never had in NY. I believe the principal works hard to keep the school's education moving forward and to promote learning beyond the FCAT. The PTA has encouraged parent involvement and has done an amazing job with all events at the school. This will be my family's second full year at the school and I'm really looking forward to it...more importantly, so are my kids!!!

Waters Edge Elementary School is a fantastic Elementary School. My oldest son has been there for Kindergarten and First Grade. Both years, he had the most caring and motivating teachers. He has learned so much both academically and socially. Also, he has gained self confidence and a love for learning. I know he is in a safe, clean, well run, organized enviroment each day. I am proud to say we are a Waters Edge Family! In the Fall, my younger son will enter Kindergarten at WEE. I am confident he, too, will have a positive academic career. We LOVE Waters Edge!

Fantastic shool. The principal has made some much needed changes and the atmosphere had improved drastically. There is very heavy involvement from parents. The school does teach towards FCAT as does every other school in Palm Beach County.

We've been with the school for several years and gone through three principals. The current principal show no concern for the kids. When we raised our concerns about her staff; she had no interest in working towards a solution. Bullying is a huge concern at the school which the staff are quick to down play the situation. Sad because they preach anti-bullying, but can't practice what they preach. Also, the teachers are too focused on FCAT. Therefore, the kids spend the school year practicing for the FCAT and nothing else.

We have been involved with Water's Edge for over 5 years. There has been a lot of focus on FCAT (Florida standardized testing), however that is true at all Palm Beach County schools and is not unique to this school. My son has had a fantastic experience.

A great school. There is a strong focus on FCAT but that is a reality of the entire Florida school system. Some members of the old Administration were a little mechanical and impersonal, but that has changed significantly (and even the old group delivered quality education). The "gifted" bias is there, but as a parent of students in the regular program, I think overstated by many and all students get a top quality education.

Waters Edge continues to lead the county in FCAT scores year after year. The teachers are excellent, especially in the gifted program. The new principal is very engaged and has a strong vision for the future. We have a 5th grader and 3rd grader and could not be any happier. Best kept secret in Palm Beach!

If you like teachers that only teach to the FCAT, yell and demean children, and teachers that for the most part do not utilize Edline and do not communicate, then this is the school for you. The new Principal has his work cut out for him that is for sure. He really needs to clean house, because the last Principal did not back her students or parents and allowed bad behavior by teachers that would get kids in big trouble. Teachers that use foul language and refer to other teacher's kids as animals is another example. Don't let an A grade for any school fool you.

I was just reading the latest posting about a child receiving an intentional head injury and was totally stunned. The same exact incident happened to my child at Waters Edge back in October and I had to involve the police and my pediatrician as wekk because the principal at that time did nothing. My child continues to be bullied and the bullies have actually started to verbally attact my other children there. So much for our children feeling safe at school.

This is a school that is completely focused on their 'gifted' program as well as keeping as clean of a record as possible. My child received an intentional head injury from another student and the school did nothing until I reached out to the Police and our pediatricians. If you are not in the gifted program or are faced with any degree of bullying that is alive and well here, you are done!! There's a lot of smoke & mirrors here so don't let the 10 on 10 rating fool you like it did me.

went to visit the school for kindergarten and was dissappointed at the sterile and coldness of the school. The principal was more worried about what my pre k kid should know before entering kindergarten than what she was going to teach my child. I want to re-think my options before going there

We have been at Waters Edge for 10 years now with two children progressing through the program. The school has won several awards and has many good points. However, communication between the school and home is lacking at times, the children are often overwhelmed with hours of homework each night and all they hear is FCAT, FCAT, FCAT. The students work very hard here and deserve recognition BUT enough is enough. 4th and 5th grades especially are so focused on results and scores that they seem to forget about the overall well being of the kids. Nothing is perfect but in our past decade at WEE, we have noticed ever increasing classroom stress and emphasis on achievement that, while present in all schools, is predominant at WEE. All nose to the grindstone and no joy makes for stressed children.

2008 National Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award! (Only 13 in the entire State of Florida!) 'A' Plus school last 4 consecutive years. Principal, Accredited Teachers, Staff, and Parent Innvolvement is examplary in every area. Students are well prepared for Middle School! I have my 2nd Child at Waters Edge. My 1st attended W.E.E. from Kindergarten through 5th grade, whom is now off to High School. Palm Beach County Schools have been constantly improving through the years.

Sure, the school rates well on the FCAT and earning a blue ribbon. However, the emphasis on performing well for tests overtakes the curriculum - with incredible amounts of homework that's truly detrimental to home life. The stress level is very high to perform - there is no joy here.

Waters Edge used to be a great school. We as parents are very unwelcome upon entering. We are the only school in Boca to have these very controlled guidelines. These strict rules are imposed by our Principal. The FCAT preparation is out of control and consuming the curriculum.

This school only teaches to the FCAT. They seem to not be interested in making education a well rounded experience. There is however great kindergarten teachers and good after school activities. The parents are involved alot, which is good. Too bad the principal never addresses any issues fully. She will 'Yes' the situation and then let it fall by the way side.

My child has attended both Waters Edge and DelPrado gifted program. Waters Edge seems to follow the philosophy as an accelerated learning rpogram. Del Pardo follows and enrichment learning program. Home work and stress level is lower at Del Prado. Waters Edge has a committed PTA. We enjoyed our time time.

We just moved out of state and had a child at this school. I tried to help the PTO and if you dont do it there way, they dont call you back. Its a shame. Overall it was a decent school. Im glad I am leaving Florida. The schools are not great and the PTA women deserve each other.

I have two children @ Watersedge, for the most part I am pleased with their development, especially the 4th grade honors program. I do wish the teachers would keep up with edline, so I as a divorced father could keep up with their assignments, maybe too much to expect? I also wish that the teachers in 4th grade honors wouldnt demand so much homework, gives little time for them to be kids. I do like that they challenge the kids in the honors( gifted) program , it is very good prep for middleschool, and the FCAT grades show that. My only problem is with the second grade, non gifted program, we as parents need constant feedback from the teachers on our kids weakness' and strenghts, however, considering Watersedge is a public school, I cannot complain, in all honesty, I feel the school is better than most private schools I am aware of.

I think Waters edge is doing a great job with the kids, the teachers really seem to care, and the school is considered an 'A' rated school by State standards. My child is in the 'gifted' progam, depending on your teacher, the homework load is too much, often spending up to 3 hrs doing homework. A little consitency with the other teachers workload seems appropriate. However, with that said, my child is blossiming into the real world, time management.

My son has attended this school since 2nd grade. He is in the gifted program and has experienced a tremendous amount of growth. My only concern is there wasn't any continuation from 2 to 3rd grade. A tremendous amount of emphasis was placed on writing in 2nd grade and hardly any in 3rd. By the time my son went to fourth he almost had to start over.

We moved to Florida from NJ. This school is horrible. My son entered the 5th grade and we pulled him out in the middle of the year. The school is extremely overcrowded. There is no money even for portable classrooms. Palm Beach County is supposed to be one of the best school districts in Florida...hah! All they do in Florida is study for the FCAT. There is no computer program and no room for alot of other learning due to the need to teach to the test (FCAT). And frankly the private schools stink as well. We are moving out of this state because we care about our children's education.

Overall a very good school. Unfortunately like most FL schools their main focus is to 'teach' the students how to do well on the FCAT exam. Gifted program (this is a school district issue) should be replaced by enrichment classes.
