The past 2 posters obviously don't understand that student behavior is more important than curriculum. You cannot teach unless the teacher has classroom management skills. Also the principal and admistrator are the same person. I would that their posts as naive ignorance about what it really takes to teach children. This new principal is amazing and genuinely cares about the staff and students. I commend her for taking over and fixing the problems that were created by the last principal. The new principal is amazing and exactly what this school needed. An honest hearted genuine student oriented educator and leader
I fully agree with the past few comments. This new principal is horrible and she not be in education yet alone the administrator. Run FAST!
Extremely unorganized and communication lacks between the new principal and fellow teachers. I was hired two months ago only to find the current principal was let go and replaced by someone who truly does not seem to care about the students or teachers. I left after a week due to her attitude and a few conversations we had about curriculum. She cares more about students being "good" rather than learning. I cannot and will not teach under those circumstances. I would not want my child a part of that environment and neither should anyone.
No surprise that another one bites the dust, that's two(2) Principles in less than two(2) years. "The mission of Pinellas Academy of Math and Science is to provide students with a well-rounded elementary and middle-school education, through a challenging program, focused on mathematics and science using innovative, reform-based instructional methods in a stimulating and nurturing environment that fosters maximum student achievement". How could a school with no principle and so called teachers that use 'Common Core' challenge, stimulate and nurture maximum student achievement? It can't, wont and never will. Been here since the first day and this school is no better than the public schools in the area. For those that say transfer your kids, we most definitely will be!!! Beside the administration and some so called teachers, most parents act worst than there children. Nothing worse than an adolescent adult and this school is full of them. PTSO IS LIKE A HIGH SCHOOL KLICK, YOUR IN OUR YOUR OUT, THEY ARE FAILING MISERABLY IN THERE OBLECTIVES! UNFORTUNETLY THIS SCHOOL IS A BIG DISAPOINTMENT!! PARENTS AND STUDENTS BE WARY OF THIS SCHOOL!!! HAVE A GREAT DAY!
If you are planning to put your child in this school, go meet the principal first. Such a disappointment !
My son is a straight A student and always has been A student weather he goes to this school or not. I feel like the principal does not care and some of the teachers. This school has a lot of problems that the admin. and principal are hiding. Pull my son out going to a great school now and still performing well as always a straight A student Do not go to this school you will be unhappy here!
We love this school and our daughter is thriving. Our daughters teacher is great at dealing with her focus issues. There are some great supportive staff and parents at this school. They require volunteer hours (10 a year) so be prepared to come in and help out on occasion. I have truly loved being involved. Any issues we have had with the school such as car line and communication have all been fixed. The squeaky wheel gets the oil!! The administration cant help the complaining parents that offer no solution or effort, and yet those parents still return the next school year. They must like it here or just enjoy complaining. This school is K-8th grade and we look forward to calling PAMS our school for the duration!!!
I wanted a small, close knit setting for my middle school child. It is a smaller school with only 2 classes for each grade in middle school. This is exactly what we needed! The middle school teachers are great and very quick to respond to questions and concerns. Quite happy here!
My daughter is very happy and so am I at this school. This is our second year at this school and it just keeps getting better every day. Don't believe the bad reviews on this school, these parents want and expect their children to be coddled like infant's. If these so called parents are to busy complaining remove your child or children from My daughter absolutely loves her teachers, she is very involved in the sports program. Next year she is off to high school and I really wish that this school went all the way through 12th grade but I will be trying to find another charter school for that. the school, there is a long waiting list for enrollment into the school. The
Administration and the teachers at this school are top notch. The complainers are parents who think they know more education than the true educators and gripe about not being able to control this school policies. Most of these same parents have children who simply cannot cope or fit in at other schools and are at their wits ends in where to place their kids, only to vent their frustration when the child doesn't do any better here. Why expect your child to do better at a more stringent school than all the others they've already failed to succeed in? I get the feeling most of these parents expect miracles. Don't expect teachers to work miracles when you've failed in parenting. I know that the parents that complain the loudest are parents of children with the worst behavior. Stop asking why Johnny isn't doing well if you're not reviewing his homework, or papers returned home, or not attending parent teacher nights. This is a school with strict behavior and academic standards. If your child hasn't made it elsewhere, he shouldn't be here impeding the progress of good students. This isn't a remedial school. Stop blaming someone else. Daily homework, reading, math, science. No excuses!
We've only been at this school for about 3 months and were welcomed with open arms by both the principal and my daughter's 5th grade teacher. My daughter was really nervous the first day and the principal took the time to talk to her and her teacher was so supportive. It made my husband and I feel so happy with our choice especially since she moved mid-year.
I am a teacher in Pinellas county and I chose this school for my son. He loves his school and is learning so much. I love the safety and the staff. I will continuing sending my son here even though I can take him to my school because I love the private school feel and the school overall
I had SUCH high hopes for this beautiful (from the outside) school. I have a child who is currently in 2nd grade. I would get complaints daily about the chaotic classroom. I wanted to see for myself, and was told with sheer vigor, that " parents are NOT allowed in the classroom." Certain this was a fallacy I approached the Vice Principal AND the Principal, only to find out this was indeed a FACT! Parents are NOT allowed anywhere NEAR the classrooms!! I was outraged, and instantly wondered..."WHY?"...What in the world is going on in the classroom that parents are not allowed to see??? This frightened me to my CORE!! Think long and hard about sending your child to a school where PARENTS are truly LOCKED OUT. Charter schools are BUILT on the premise of parental involvement. Parents volunteer hours are spent straightening books in the glorious library, which by the way, the children have NEVER been to; or cleaning up the cafeteria after the children have gone back to class. If you are a parent who wants to be involved...this is NOT the school for you. I have pulled my child from this school.
This is my daughter's first year in this school and her first year at school in general. I was hopeful that this charter school would be a good one as far as the curriculum and how it is ran. Unfortunately, it has been disappointment after disappointment. The first week was one of the MOST stressful weeks I've ever had because of the mess of a carline pick-up/drop-off situation they were running. Parents were fighting with local business owners, talk about a LACK of organization. Then my daughter was switched into a different classroom only one month into school, so she had to adjust to that change. Then that teacher quit over the Christmas break so now she's going on her third teacher in her first Kindergarten year...pathetic! This school can't keep their teachers happy let alone keep them employed. Six teachers have left this year and it's only the beginning of second semester! I have seen numerous complaints about kids not being fed lunch, teachers blaming kids for the school's problems, etc. etc. My husband was even screamed at by the principal because he was unaware of a traffic condition at the school. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE. This school is a trainwreck at best.
There isn't anything even slightly good about this school. My son will have been there a year and a half at the end of this school year. The two kindergarten teachers he had last year were the ONLY slightly positive thing. They do not accommodate well for children with learning disibilities. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. My son's 1st grade teacher was unaware my child even had a 504 plan. When she was absent, the sub. was also unaware...This school is totally inept with communcation, professionalism etc. I will be filing a complaint with the school board. My son's teacher also wears inappropriate clothing to school, as I was a witness to during our conference. I have requested my son be switched to another class to no avail.. Parents think TWICE about this school!!
This school had so much potential but I'm afraid they will never make this school what it could be. The management including principal do not attend any PTSO/school functions. Only a handful of the teacher's attend school functions. Huge disconnect in communication. 6 teachers did not come back from winter break. There is only one teacher who attends PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization) regulary. When I bring my child to school I feel that the teachers could care less what happens to him. Ask about the teaching staffs' credentials as well as the substitutes. This is my child's second year and it will also be his last.
I think this is a great school with great hardworking teachers and all the stars go for them because without them this would not be such a great school. However, the principal seems to have a huge disconnect with the school. Agree with previous poster about professionalism. She is not involved with school activities and does not seem to care to be involved. The teachers are the ones that care and make this a great school.
I can't even get a star to this school. This school has lack of everything. The principal's attitude is very unprofessional. My child's teacher has been absent 3 times during last 3 weeks. I'm regret that enrolled my child in this school.
Must be some of the same parents posting good reviews over and over. I give two stars instead of no stars for the teachers. They are amazing. Everything else about the school lacks. I have kids in other area charters and there is NO comparison. Be sure you fully investigate this school before you apply. "new school" sooo sick of that excuse. 2nd year and still a mess. The management company runs several schools all over the state and has for years...nothing NEW about them! Oh and the new principal's last school is rated 3 on this very website.
This is my daughters first year at this school. I'm protective of my child in so many ways and I must say that I'm very positive and please about this school progress. I applaud the principle for working so hard to make things work smoothly during car line. Sadly few parents intend to shadow her hard work. They complain, cause drama, fight with other parents during car line and yell at the teachers at pick up in front of their own and our children because they don't know how to be a good civilian and they don't like to follow rules because they are adults. Some PAMS Parents don't know how to behave during car line and ignore traffic norms but that is not the school's fault. Drop off and pick up was great after the first day of school and its getting better day after day. Thank you principle and teachers for your hard work. A parent suggested to put bad reviews from a Facebook post. I bed she is one of the unruly ones; Misery needs company!! Be positive and loving for the sake of our children!! I love the school, the program, the principle and the teachers. This school is here to stay and is going to be one of the top schools. Peace and love!! I'm a happy PAMS parent.
