I think this is a great school with great hardworking teachers and all the stars go for them because without them this would not be such a great school. However, the principal seems to have a huge disconnect with the school. Agree with previous poster about professionalism. She is not involved with school activities and does not seem to care to be involved. The teachers are the ones that care and make this a great school.
Great school!! Great teachers!! Beautiful campus despite all the construction. The staff work like a well oiled machine keeping our kids safe, happy and smart. We look forward to our child being here till high-school!! This school is adding a science lab, a Lego club called bricks for kids, soccer, flag football, basket ball, before care and after care. They just got an archery club and they are bringing back the morning running club for all ages!!
I can't even get a star to this school. This school has lack of everything. The principal's attitude is very unprofessional. My child's teacher has been absent 3 times during last 3 weeks. I'm regret that enrolled my child in this school.
Must be some of the same parents posting good reviews over and over. I give two stars instead of no stars for the teachers. They are amazing. Everything else about the school lacks. I have kids in other area charters and there is NO comparison. Be sure you fully investigate this school before you apply. "new school" sooo sick of that excuse. 2nd year and still a mess. The management company runs several schools all over the state and has for years...nothing NEW about them! Oh and the new principal's last school is rated 3 on this very website.
This is my daughters first year at this school. I'm protective of my child in so many ways and I must say that I'm very positive and please about this school progress. I applaud the principle for working so hard to make things work smoothly during car line. Sadly few parents intend to shadow her hard work. They complain, cause drama, fight with other parents during car line and yell at the teachers at pick up in front of their own and our children because they don't know how to be a good civilian and they don't like to follow rules because they are adults. Some PAMS Parents don't know how to behave during car line and ignore traffic norms but that is not the school's fault. Drop off and pick up was great after the first day of school and its getting better day after day. Thank you principle and teachers for your hard work. A parent suggested to put bad reviews from a Facebook post. I bed she is one of the unruly ones; Misery needs company!! Be positive and loving for the sake of our children!! I love the school, the program, the principle and the teachers. This school is here to stay and is going to be one of the top schools. Peace and love!! I'm a happy PAMS parent.
Love the school. I have no complaints. Safe campus, security cameras and more!!! High standards! Even higher behavior expectations! This school has got it together. It might have had a rough first year with the prior principal, but NOT this year! The bar has been set. If you can't handle rigor and high expectations and don't want to follow rules then I would say to save yourself some time and go to a different school because Pinellas Academy only has room for the BEST OF THE BEST Students, teachers, and administration.
This is an excellent school. There is construction going on. Construction =traffic. and construction = expansion = a successful school. That tells you right there people want to be at this school if they have to expand in their. 2nd year already. Now let's stop wasting space on here talking about menial traffic problems that will resolve themselves and talk about the amazing job that these teachers are doing with the students. My child loves school and is excelling! All the teachers are highly qualified and work their butts off. I am personally thankful for all of them. I feel that my child is safe now that security is taken seriously and the campus is locked up tight especially during dismissal so that parents nor anyone else cannot just get on campus and roam around. Everyone should be grateful for that too in light of recent events, This is a positive change and a reason I and many others would want our children at this school. The children are safe and the staff are safe. So what if we have to wait an extra few minutes. It's worth it. Here's to a great school year at Pinellas Academy. A school that takes safety and educating our children even more seriously.
Our son started here last year for the first year it was opened and started 1st grade our son not only loves his friends at his school but he comes home telling me everyday how much he loves his teacher and principal. My son still talks to his teachwrs from last year and not onlythat but he seems to know every staff member in his school which I would have to say is awesome and means this staff continues a relationship with every child in his school. Our son attends before and after care and I can not say enough good things about there program. If you want a school to not only challenge your children vut to help them strive this school would be a great fit for you.
The teachers at this school are amazing. They go above and beyond for the students.
Waiting List!! This school has a long waiting list & those parents below that have neg comments should leave if they don't love it here and make room more someone who does! Our family absolutely loves PAMS & couldn't have found a better school. This is our 2nd yr & were thrilled when our child was accepted! The parents that are complaining below about waiting 15 minutes in car-line to pick up their kids need to realize that there is a reason behind it and it's for our children's safety. And if that's the only problem they are having they should talk to parents with children in the public school system! If their children went to public school I'm sure the bus ride home is more than 15 mins and I guarantee that the education they would receive elsewhere wouldn't be anywhere close to PAMS. This school not only has AMAZING TEACHERS AND ADMIN but has a place for children at high to low levels!! Classes and curriculums are not a "one size fits all" mentality. PAMS has Science centers for both elementary and middle school students which is my childs favorite! Hands on learning! An active Parent Organization dedicated to enhancing the school. A principal dedicated to the students!
OK, So this is my daughters second year! I realy like the teachers however the drop off and pick up are insane! First Day was typical but was so disorganized. Last year they were held in the cafeteria and called out to there cars and it worked great. This year they are held outside in a mass group calling them when there cars are there to pick them up. First day i was on lake and was side swiped by a car going through the grass to get around the line of cars they took my side mirror off, there was nothing i could do as he went by because i was stuck in a sea of cars. Second day I had to circle the school 4 times before i was lucky enough to get to turn down Cambridge 1 hour later. This morning i dropped her off and was headed out when we were blocked by a police car in the out drive, the officer was standing next to his car watching the line back up with almost no traffic direction .....Last year was a dream compared to this year.
Wonderful school and amazing teachers. First day of school dismissal is typical at most schools. Just read Tampa Bay Times. Other schools in the area took more than an hour. It gets better within 3 days. Even faster when parents cooperate. Regardless of First day traffic problems my daughter loved school and didn't want the day to be over. She can't wait to go back. That tells you everything.
This is a great school with phenomenal teachers. Every school is going to have its kinks to work out, especially in a county that holds up building permits to schools. Last year the management company saw a need to change the principal, and did so. The Dean was not fired, she moved out of state. The new principal and Assistant Principal are phenomenal individuals who are motivated and will get things done. Give them a break, it was the first day.
Well first day of School very disappointing they had 3 months too finish the road for car drive thru too pick up the kids I cant explain what a mess in front of the school in the morning as me and my wife we drop off our kindergarten daughter and our 5 grade daughter they don't even led us in too school too help our children fill confident for they first day even the office was closed I don't know any school that keeps the office close in the morning very disappointed I saw the principal screaming and yelling on the parents in the morning I see her very not organized she don't know anything about organization from what I saw for the first day 08/19/2013 well I will give them this week too see if they going to better them self around the school they need more people too work around them thanks.
I agree with several parents on this site that communication by the school leaves a lot to be desired. I did not have a single conference with my childs teacher all year, however, when I did send her emails asking how my son was doing, she was quick to respond. In his school prior to PAMS, they had a parent/teacher conference after every grading quarter. Not once during the school year did they go to the library and never checked out a single book. My son would tell me he needed to do this or bring that to school but I would never receive written communication. I was not at all impressed with the school. Hoping that the second year goes much better.
This school has to do a lot of improvement in order to be a great or even good school. The school lacked communication in all realms. (Admin-teacher, teacher-parents, admin-parents). No one knew what the exact rules were regarding policies just lots of rumors as to what the policies were. Also, my child said the teacher had threatened to quit to a group of young children! Unacceptable! Do not consider this train-wreck of a school for your child's education! There are much better charter schools in the area! My child had the opportunity to switch to another charter school during the school year and her grades and behavior have returned to what they were prior to PAMS.
So, the previous commenter appears to be upset that he/she had to look on the website where the students' grades are published in order to find out his/her student's grades? Why? Isn't that how (in addition the customary report cards, progress reports, and graded papers which are sent home) a parent finds out a child's grades? The reason teachers publish grades on the website is for the sole purpose of parents taking a proactive role and looking at them. Why should an educator have to call you and let you know what they are in addition to posting them where you can look at them any time day or night whilst wearing your pajamas. Is that too inconvenient? Hmmm. Also, the principal with whom you are expressing dissatisfaction was removed, and another one put in his place, which is an example of the "Let's fix this problem" attitude of the Charter School Associates. I saw them make multiple adjustments in many areas over the school year which improved situations that had arisen. No school is perfect, but at least this one made many adjustments in the first year, striving to be better. I am keeping my child enrolled.
Being a first year school they failed in many areas including communication and child safety. My child was receiving zeros in class work and bellwork in several classes. I was never informed by any of the teachers nor did they request conferences. It was only addressed because I watched Edline and finally requested the conferences. Upon finding a note while cleaning out backpacks that was written by several students with specific details of bullying, I was horrified when I brought it in to the school, to find out that the admin. staff and a teacher were aware of the situation and had been having meetings with my child. The principal was not aware because he only becomes involved when the situations become physical. We the parents should have been informed by admin. when they first became aware and as well as if they were having meetings with my child we should have been informed as well. My child wanted to finish out the school year against my desire. They did make staff changes but it was far to late. My child will not attend this school again. First year or not the school should know how to address the above situations.
Wow! Too bad some parents were not happy with this school. For being a first year school, they have taken GIANT strides and had made many fabulous accomplishments. In my opinion, there will always be an "issue" in every school. There are good people and not so good people and the same goes for teachers and administration. Anyone hired in a company is given an opportunity to prove themselves to be their best and when changes took place at PAMS, that was their way of saying, "We are going to nip this in the you know where before it really takes a toll on the school!" To be "disgusted" because of the changes made in a positive way is a horrible thing to say about a 1st year school. They seem to be forgetting a lot of their firsts and that's too bad. Running from school to school won't change the fact some parents do not put 100% into their child's education. The teachers at PAMS work extremely closely with the students but the facts are if a students isn't going to work, then they can only get what they earn. Parents, wake up and stop pointing the finger that most get tired of looking at all of the time. However, that is easier to do after all, isn't it... GO PAMS!!!
There is something wrong at this school. They hired a new Principal. We will not be coming back.
