I absolutely love East Ridge! From the teachers to administration to my classes, I truly could not have asked for a better experience filled with people that care. The complaints mainly come from students that do not care, but if you challenge yourself and take control of your education, I guarantee you will get a quality education led by phenomenal teachers. People may not like it here because of the other students, but honestly, that's up to the individual to make better choices when it comes to friends. I have not had one problem with any of the students here. I know most kids are motivated to come to school because of their friends, but my amazing teachers are my motivation to come to school. The teachers at East Ridge, especially the AP teachers, are seriously some of the greatest teachers I could ever ask for! I really would not be as successful if it were not for my teachers, especially the AP Science teachers! Go Knights!:D
this school sucks. the teachers dont care and the other students are horrible. my own math teacher made fun of me. i moved here in the middle of the year. and i cant stand it. they dont fix anything. like the air conditioning was broken and it wasnt fixed for 2 months. then all the teachers only care about them self. one of my teachers complained about the air. when it worked perfectly fine and had to move to anouther room. the teachers dont care about what happens, like i was punched in the neck and the shoulder and my math teacher didnt do anything about it. they need to fix it.
Some of the best and most committed teachers in the state of Florida. Amazing that they are able to do as well as they do, given the bully of a principal the school has. She can never be wrong. She is not open to seeing other points of view nor is she flexible. It is her way or the high way and there is no room to even listen to parent concerns even when they are valid. Sad that when we are trying to give our kids the skills to be able to work together with others, that the principal can not model even common courtesy on a basic scale. When meeting her incoming students, she even threatens them too. Sad to see such a personality in such a position of power and influence.
Went here the year it opened for two years. It was a big change for me since I had been home schooled until 8th grade. I loved it here, but after reading the reviews it seems like its changed for the worse. I loved all of the AP classes. AP anatomy was the best class I have ever taken. More informative and instructive than most of my college classes. Not all teachers were great, but then again not all kids are great.
i am now a senior at this school and i have to say that it was the best four years of my life. Sure there may be some drugs and minor violence but i doubt that there is a perfect school out there that doesn't have it. They have a wide variety of classes and programs that will help any student succeed if they really want to, like dual enrollment, advanced placement, AVID, and the many other technical programs that the school offers. Some of the people on here are definitely exaggerating when they say that no one at this school cares about their student's success; there's ALWAYS help if you or your student actually goes to look for it. As a senior I also have the priviilage of working at the guidance office and I can't say how many phone calls there are from parents that are freaking out because "no one" is helping their student who has asked for help, but in reality their student didn't take any action to help themselves. So in the end this is really a good school, but the teachers and administrators aren't going to treat the students like babies either.
great school my 2 kids graduated at east ridge,i have a freshman now making it my 3rd daughter,so far we have 7 years invested in east ridge,we are heavy involved in the band my wife is a board member, what can i say if it wasnt for clermont and east ridge high school i would have moved out of florida long time ago. we moved to clermont 14 years ago.next 4 years my wife and i will be helping out the band hauling there equipment with my tractor trailer and lots of other things.
Unfortunately the school can only play the hand they are dealt. They do a very good job with regard to the explosion in student population over the last couple years. There is a new high school being built in Minneola that will greatly reduce the vast over-population at ERHS. My daughter goes there and is doing rather well. She tells me and her mother of some of the 'oddiites' that occur, but it still comes down to how the student has been raised to handle life's obsticles. The adult world is not one of utopia and I believe that even in school there are issues, matters and concerns that are necessary for the true mental and social development of our youth. Now this does not mean they should be inundated with negativity and zero opportunities. That too is not a true life reality. ERHS has many positive avenues for our youth.
I completely agree!!! It starts with the Administration and at ERHS, they leave much to be desired. They need a new principal and maybe 2 or 3 more to help. The school is over crowded and 3 depities can't possibly control the amount of unruly kids that are there. The peer pressure is impossible to deal with and it's not a place where anyone could concentrate, lt alone learn.
My daughter is a freshman and so far things are good except I was very upset when we attended the last Parent night and half her teachers were not there especially the one that I needed to speak with. And it would be nice if all the teachers were as diligent as Mr. Blum in updating Esembler and so detailed. And can whomever does the hiring please hire teachers that the kids can understand when they speak.
Does anybody even read this or care about this school or its students? The drugs and gang violence at this school is insane! The officers that are paid our tax dollars to keep this under control are not allowed to do their jobs. Is it so important to have a high rating for your school when it's all a big fat lie? Does anybody really care about these students? I have tried to be an active parent throughout my sons time at this school and have met teachers that are just rude and dont want to be bothered. Well, thats screams over worked, treated like garbage by the students and no longer caring about what had once made them want to be a teacher. If you are thinking about putting your child in this school - dont!!! Run, dont walk to a private school!!!
The band program is amazing, the teachers are wonderful and my daughter has the best guidance counselor; she is having a wonderful experience=)
i think this school is the perfect school for a student to attend. Every one there is freindly and there are bunch of clubs, sports that everyone can get involed with. Even tho the tardie rule is a little bad but we should all have time to get to one clss to the other, a good school to learn resposibliy i would choose this school for any student to go 2.
I am now going to be a junior at the school. I belief it's an okay school. Even though I may not agree with alot. First of administrators should treat students equally. And the tardy policy is just ridiculous they should give us more time to get to class. I mean like seriously its way to overcrowded how do they expect us to get anywhere at a fast pace?.
I think ERHS is overall a good school. Although overcrowding is a major flaw, I think one would be hard pressed to find a school in the district without overcrowding issues. As a junior at East Ridge, I think teachers are usually good, although they usually vary with the caliber of the students-- most of the AP teachers, for instance, are great, whereas general teachers can be disinterested and uninteresting. As for the issue of being late because of classes being too far apart, the campus is set up so that classes in similar fields and taken by the same grade are near each other. For instance, freshmen have their own building, and they rarely need to leave it except for electives. Overall it's a good school, but has room for improvement, especially in the honors classes-- pushing honors-level students into AP courses is never a good idea.
Too many fights, overcrowded classrooms, portables and not enough teaching since the students are 'untouchable' and very disrespectful to the teachers...Students should be held to a higher standard and be much more respectful to authority. Dress code not being inforced and parents who don't care.
This school is a complete joke. I graduated from here 2 years ago and still hate the place. If you're marginally smart and motivated, this school isn't for you as they cater to the general student population out of which only 20% enters a 4 year institution after graduation. I understand that the FCAT is what determines school funding, but this school provided me no assistance in trying to get into top schools, as everyone goes to UCF or UF, if they attend college. I will not attribute any of my successes in life to this school, as I did everything on my own. If you're moving into the Orlando area, stick with respectable schools such as Lake Brantley or Winter Park.
Overall it is a great school. They offer challenging courses and work with the CC to offer dual enrollment. They went from a C to a B school this year so they are improving.
I didnt like this school one bit. Its way to crowded. I really don't think the cell phone policy is fair nor the tardy policy. My 1st class is in the last few portables then i have to travel the huge campus and hurry through its over crowded population, to my locker then upstairs to class. Which i do always end up being late. And everytime your late you get a referal. & depending on what teacher also a detention or Iss or Oss or wednesday school. :)
I am a senior now at erhs. And when I was a freshman at this school it wasn't so bad. But during the years it had gotten worse. The rules got even more strict and ridiculous. At one year they had a rule for 'PDA' and it took affect and didn't last at least 2 months and they gave up on it. Staff members or shall I say the administrators don't treat students equally. I got placed in a class that I wasn't even supposed to be in. I had it for 3 yrs. And I have been trying to get out of it. When I finally had found a way and got my mother to sign it they said 'Okay. I'm good.' Next thing you know it they messed up my schedule for this year and put me in that class. They can't choose their minds.
My daughter is a junior at ERHS and for the most part I haven't had issues with the school until this year. My only complaint has to do with some of the staff, they complain that to many parents don't take part in their childs education but there are many members of the staff the feel parents that do take part in their childs education are nothing but pains. The staff needs to work with the parents to be successful not ignore them as I have experienced. I believe there are some members of the staff that need a little education in customer service, you want respect then you need to give it. Take pride in your work. For those memebers of the staff that do care and have been a big part in my daughters High School years, thank you and may others learn from you.
