The bar here is set so low, it's just sad. We are not from here and the public school system we came from was much more challenging creative and fun! My child was bored out of her mind at this school. A lot of paper pushing. Most of her tests were the exact copies of the study guide. I received a letter from the school in December (the letter was dated in October) that my child's gifted teacher wasn't a certified teacher in the state of Florida. Of course, this is a 'fluff' class anyway, no real challenge to it. Very disappointing. The gym has no air conditioning, the school grounds are a mess, and the buildings look like they are going to fall down. Gym class is a joke. They tell the kids to 'find something to do'. If your child is average, they might be happy. If they are gifted, and truly love to learn, they will not like it at all.
Excellent drama and band program. Guidance office very friendly and professional. Great staff. Good atmosphere for children and learning. Old facility, needs upgrade. Auditorium due for renovation at the end of this year - yeah! Algebra 1 Honors class receives high school credit - 8th grade.
The teachers are very helpful and trusting and work well with our children
Great teachers, great environment, good programs
Im a student here at Fernandina Beach Middle School and I love it here! I just transferred from Callahan Middle and My parents and I are impressed with the acedemics here...Callahan is so behind and Fernandina's student have made me comfortable with the school and now i love going there. I like my teachers and gives us a challenge ,but its a challenge for me cause Callahan was behind. I also came here not only for the schooling but for the sports.
This school was absolutely horrible! My son entered the school as an A/B student his entire life. Within a semester had gone to F's and D's. We couldn't get any help from his teachers. Second semester we pulled him out, started homeschooling him. What do you know... all A's and B's again. If you value your child's education, self-esteem, or future, you will not allow him or her to attend FBMS!
Emphasis on academics and intellectual pursuits seem to be less of a priority than a rigorous dress code.
Dr. Mazzella is a wonderful Principal, and has done a good job over at FBMS.
We moved here right as my daughter was starting middle school, 6th grade. I have heard for years how horrible middle schools are supposed to be. Not so here. Just love it! If you ever have a problem it is handled immediately! My daughter has had many great teachers and is challenged and does just great! Can't say enough wonderful things about this school!
The best school ever! The teachers are awesome and learning is so much fun!
