Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

It's amazing how little the faculty care about the students there. There is a culture of lying there that starts a the top. An example is how they continue to list themselves as a top 100 school on their webpage when they have not been there for three years.

Heard so many good things so I was shocked when we did not experience them! If your child is in the I.B program or plays sports Ft Myers is a great school otherwise forget it. The school really only cares about those two things, everything (and everyone else)falls to the wayside. The school placed our child in advanceded math classes (Trig & Calculus etc). Our child did extremely well and continued advancing only to be told senior year -Oops! We made a mistake you shouldnt have been in those classes(starting freshman year mind you) because you never took Algebra 2 so until you do you cannot graduate with your class. Our child indeed had to do an extra semester due to the school's mistake & despite getting A's & B's in their most advanced math classes! Our other children will not be attending Ft.Myers when it is time for their high school.

Our daughter is a graduate of this outstanding school. The school has a tremendous sense of community and the teachers and administration are exceptional. There is a genuine concern for all students and students are encouraged to be the best that they can be. It is a safe school, and I have never heard of any incidents of bullying or violence. This school provides a high quality education which surpasses many of the private schools in the area, especially in the IB program. There is diversity, activities to suit a variety of interests, and parents are encouraged to be involved. We have since moved to VT, and I have a daughter attending an independent school as a day student, and I can honestly say that I was better satisfied with Ft. Myers High School

This school is without a doubt the best high school in the state of Florida. This school has nothing to do with how much money you have or who you know. The teachers care about the students and make an effort to know the parents as well. Fort Myers High School has the finest rating by which all other schools are measured and try to reach their level. I would never place my children in any other school but Fort Myers High School. It also has the best overall parental participation in all after school activities such as parent/teacher night. It is truly amazing the turnout of the parents and families, and shows how much they truly care about the school and their children. I'm proud to be able to say that my children were educated at Fort Myers High School!!

I was a student at FMHS, and I was in the IB program for all four years. It was a great school and now I am in a great college!

I have a daughter in the IB program. This is a top ranked school with an exceptional staff with an exceptional principal. I had to send my other children to private due to the poor education with in the lee county system. It is refreshing to put my tax dollars to good use at this school and not have to spend additional income to insure my children get a good education. I speak with experience as I graduated from Cypress Lake HS and had to spend additional time to catch up when I went to the university.

I have two children that attend FMHS. The education is superior, and the structer is firm. The FMHS band is is a great team. I encourage any children interested in music to join the band. They are all great friends, and it keeps the group busy. Its they very best school of choice. Go Greenwave!

If you are in IB this school is the Best, as you can see from all the other reviews. If you are not in IB or an excellent athelete I do not recommend this school. Your child will get over looked and while not have many opportuneties to be a shining star.

I am currently a senior at FMHS. I came from a private middle school and at first it took me a while to adapt to the change from a small school to a large public school, but I found it very easy to make friends with both my fellow students and teachers here. Our school has an exceptionally wide variety of clubs, honor societies, and athletic teams, so there is absolutely no reason why anyone should not be involved in something. While the hype of our school seems to be the IB program, having experienced both the IB and Traditional programs, I would strongly recommend either program. The staff at our school is great and, for the most part, are willing to work with any problems you might have. I live all the way in Bonita, and despite the long drive, I wouldn't change my decision of being a Greenie!

I am a senior this year in the IB program and I have to say that if you want your child to excel after high school, Fort Myers is definitely the school to choose. The environment pushes you to excel. I love the fact that some of the most popular kids are the smartest ones in the class. I was able to achieve a 5.0 by the end of my junior year which greatly helped in the collee admission process. Plus there is so much diversity within the student body and faculty that it truly prepares your for the college experience. Being a school of tradition with our Greenie Growl, and Mr. Greenwave, we can get both the 'real' high school experience as well as a college preparatory education. I'm proud to be a part of the green wave family!

My daughters (2) are seniors this year in IB. I do not believe that there is a more rigorous public school in the county. The 90 minute classes help focus the kids, and the numerous after school club activities have provided an excellent social and community service oriented, well-roundedness to their education. Teachers are helpful and responsive to student issues.

I am a graduate from FMHS and I think it was a good school at it's highest points, but coming from a private middle school I am not familiar with standard public schools anyway. It has changed staff and administration too frequently, and for that, I have really seen it crumble. They used to have a pretty big focus on sports, and grades. Ms. Mcdill is the best teacher there. A very people friendly math teacher, but an inspiration teacher at her best too. The school is over crowded though, and has ineffective methods of 'discipline'. It will do nothing for you unless your child is really motivated for college.

MY daughter is about to enter her sophmore year at FMHS.She is in the IB program and also takes orchestra. So far,she has had higher grades than in middle school, even with the harder work they are doing. The greenie growls are hilarious and there is a lot of spirit in the school. We rate it an A+! I don't understand the comment about big money either. MY daughter has been in IB since second grade at Pinewoods. There is no money involved.Just intelligence and concentration. Susan K.

I'm a senior at FMHS, I'm a non IB student. In one review they mention high grades and excellent athletic students as a major thing to become a student here, not true. Teachers help students who have a hard time, students with disabilities and regular students. The environment couldn't be any more comfortable, and diversity makes our school different and unique. I have friends from Mariner High School and in Cypress, and they wish they were in FMHS. I'm a proud student, confident to go to college and show all the skills that FMHS showed me i had. I recommend FMHS to any parent or student that is looking for an excellent school in Southwest Florida. We are definately the best, no doubt about it!

I am currently a Junior in the IB program at FMHS and I personally can attest to the high quality of this school. The school has a superb academic program and offers a wide variety of electives covering most conceivable fields of interest. The music department is excellent - the marching band is scheduled to perform in London at a very prestigious concert. The school offers several art programs that have up to 3 levels, with one level being completed each year. The athletic teams at FMHS are considered to be among the best in the state. As far as Extracurricular activities, the school has a vast number of clubs for students to chose from. Generally, high school students are not going to want their parents to be overly involved in their school, but they in no way keep them from being involved.

My son is in the IB program and we did not pay a penny so not sure where the comment about 'big money' comes from. He got there by hard work and excellent grades. He joined in the middle of 10th grade when we moved to the area and was accepted because of his academic abilities, they don't usually accept mid-year. So far the school seems very good on discipline and my son is very comfortable in the school, from what I have seen the school has quite a diverse mix of kids but they are all there because they work hard and keep up their grades. I don't know about the athletics programs but there is an abundance of afterschool activities. I don't really see any parental involvement but at this age who really wants their mom or dad around school?

My child was in the IB program and liked the hight school. Most parents that I have talked with say that this is the best public high school in Lee County. They offer many quality academic programs and have a lot of extracurricular activities teens would want to take. She had no problems with anyone or anything, but if she would not have been able to learn things on her own or needed extra help there would have been a problem. She said the teachers teach the class everyday and offer an after school tutorial to help students falling behind, but is usually taught by the 'A' students. They tutor you and they didn't teach very well at all. She did better on her own. All in all, I think it is the best high school and I will send my next child to Fort Myers High School.

Considder Dunbar or Cypress for the magnet programs. Both are excellent. Unless you have big money contacts, the IB is off limits dispite your grades. Not such a diverse school. Only the good athletes get in and if you are not much of an athlete, you better have good grades and get lucky. For a public school that is in a zone choice area, they are not very diverse. You think it would be better. Thru my experience, some want it that way and their money will keep it that way.

I currently attend Fort Myers High school and i'm in the IB course at that school. I've only been there less then a month, but I can tell that this really is the best school in the state of Florida. They may have alot of new teachers, but with new teachers comes more challenges. And being in the ib program I know what it's like to be challenged every day. I give this school the highest ranking, becase it really is a great school. They have very high expectations, but nothing that's going to kill us. And dicipline is very good.

My daughter has graduated from , and my son is a senior, both in the IB program. The program is outstanding and balanced, and not only for the gifted. Extracurricular opportunities are varied, the athletic program is widely supported throughout the community and teams are regularly in post-season playoffs. Student population is a wonderful mix of cultures. Most importantly, graduates from FMHS are very well prepared for their college studies, both in time management and in course load(not only my daughter's experience, but that of many of her friends, and classmates). This is easily the best public high school in the extended area. The 2 private high schools are excellent, but lack the advantage of cultural diversity.

Whether your child is in the IB or regular program this school has exceptional teachers, the desire to excel, strict discipline, and a student body and peer pressure that is there to succeed and mannered. Strong dress code enforced. For the 2003-2004 year I have a 10 & 12 grader in the IB program. Highly Rated and in my research probably the best in South Florida.
