I have two children at WES. All the teachers and administration we've come in contact with have been outstanding. They seem to go out of their way to make sure our children get what they need from elementary school.

I have a daughter who started her kindergareden year at Westside and is now a 2nd grader. I think the teachers & staff are very caring & put your children first. They have excellent safety measures and great parent/ teacher contact...good or bad. It will be sad when my daughter has to leave Westside.

I love the small town atmosphere at this school. The staff is friendly and everybody knows who my child is and they are always in contact with me. The academic programs are great. The third grade teachers did not seem to stress out over the Fcat. If they did they did it in private and the children did not see it. My third grader looked forward to taking the test! They have a great variety of extra cirricular activities, choir, puppets and drama, story time say no to drugs. I just loved this school.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Florida used the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT 2.0) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading, 3 through 8 in math, and in grades 5 and 8 in science. The FCAT 2.0 is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Florida. The FCAT 2.0 has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level. The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.

About the tests

Florida uses School Grades to measure the overall performance of a school each year on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
