Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Just do a YouTube search for Driftwood Middle fights and you can see how the kids act at this school. Discipline is non-existent at this school. Stay far away from this school if you want your kids to be safe and not bullied.

Don't listen to any other reviews. Yes, the principal is a little conceded but the teachers work extremely hard to make sure the student excel. Our test scores show that the teachers works hard to help us students. Yes there are some issues but no one nor school is perfect. And the most problems are from the lower teams whose parents don't discipline them. Come to this school SPECTACULAR

this school is ratchet af. the principal cares more about the grass than the students. the students are some of the stupidest ive seen, too many tween pregnancies, dont come here.

There were a bunch of fights like before they made the rule of 10 day suspension. This school isn't aware but there are gangs, drugs, and a lot of setups for fights. A bunch of 13 year old girls that are doing things they really shouldn't be doing. Some of their parents are aware and don't care. The school website should be updated more often. I have no idea where I am suppose to go tomorrow. I didn't get a call that I should report anywhere. They should also put the schedule on pinnacle, it only works on some mobiles, I'd like to know my schedule which would make tomorrow less hectic. One of my teachers last year let the class do whatever they wanted, they'd walk out no problem. They also did this escort to the bathroom thing, where they have security walk us to the bathroom, WHICH SUCKS!!!! I hate it everyone hates it, I am about to pee myself and the security is late to pick us up. Its a stupid rule and it was never a good idea. I don't know what they were thinking at all. I understand people were doing bad things but there can be security outside the 3 bathrooms, what if something actually bad happens and security are too busy watching kids pee. This school has worsened. :(((((

I am currently an eight grader in his last week at this school. My experience here was sub-par, at best. First of all, there are staff members (3) "monitoring" the cafeteria. They do a terrible job at that. Throughout my 3 years here, the staff don't notice anything (fights) unless every student starts yelling "ohhhhhh" or cheering. The school doesn't do a good job in the communication area. Each time they have been called (teacher/administrator) the individual will fail to call back after a message is left via voicemail. They decided to lock all bathrooms in the school and made an escort required for any movement during a class period. This was around 3 weeks before school ended (people like me relieve themselves on a certain schedule). When it comes to teachers, some are very good at what they do. Mr.Ogden (history) entertains students while teaching them which is very hard to come by. He does a very good job teaching us and he has to be one of my favorite teachers. I've had terrible experiences with teachers this year as well. This school is mainly focused on test scores (EOC, Finals, FCAT) The staff even tries to make you clean up during a Saturday detention.

I'm an eight grader now and what I have experienced in this school is great. The teachers are strict sometimes because their trying to teach a lesson and my school has staff members and a policeman checking the hallways to ensure no horseplay or students skipping class. Since I got to this school it was okay but it has improved a lot. There are some teachers that go over the extreme and are unfair. Also I have seen that lots of kids are applying to this school. The only thing I would change is when school ends and the walkers have to exit to the back of the school. Other than that its good also there's lots of clubs and sports. Just letting you know the coaches will remove your child out of a sport depending on their grades they don't tolerate students with low grades on a sport team even if the student is a great player. Our food is good due to our new vending machine that now sells yogurt parfait and chicken wrap. This school is great, one more thing on your first day students just need to bring 3 pencils a bookbag and paper because that day teachers will give them their school supplies list. I hope you found my comment useful.

I don't like it because of the lunch seating. And everything else. The lunch isn't good. The teachers are mean. And I'm gonna start the school and I don't know when or the supply list.

DMS is the worst school I've ever dealt with. There's no communication between teachers and the office, and definitely none between the teachers and parents. My daughters are in 6th and 7th grades there now. My 6th grader had a problem with a teacher swearing at them and calling them names. My 7th grader has problems with her teachers just not taking the education they're supposed to be providing serious enough. And calling the school to set up a parent/teacher conference is easy.. but returning a phone message after a guidance counselor calls you is a joke. Knowing that a certain person works there... the office will tell you otherwise. This school is a joke and I can't wait to pull my kids out of there!!!!!!!

I have never had any issues with the school. the things that i do not like is that they have this wikki spaces and to me it is very hard to e-mail a teacher and see what is happening. I also don't like the fact that the principal makes the children walk a different way after they get out of school causing some of the kids to miss crossing guards and all. I think the only reason he has the job is of who his falther.

We pulled our child out of the school after his first year. We had a horrible experience with bullying that went largely unaddressed. The principal is one of the worst administrator's I've ever had the displeasure to meet. (Note: his father is a prominent member of the Board of Education.) I was one of the "lucky" few who obtained an audience. Another mom whose son was being bullied remarked she would have a better chance of getting an appointment with Obama. The only positive was that several of my child's teachers were kind, caring and effective.

I agree with the lack of communication with the teachers and office staff at Driftwood Middle School. This is definitely an error of concern for involved parent(s).

I am a 6th grader at driftwood middle school and i would say i love attending this school since the beginning of the school year! all the teachers are nice and most students are friendly! this school is really fun and strict at the same time! dms is a physical wellnesss magnet school that has its own gym and aerobics room! I say that is focuses on physical wellness as much as it focuses on the other academics like math and such! dms is a really great school and i would recommend it to anybody and everybody!

I am an eighth grade student at DMS. I am currently in the gifted program and in the school band. I believe the school band is the most amazing part of the school. The band teacher, Mr. Mortan, has an amazing talent for music and loves to share it with all. Also the schools jazz band is quite awsome. We tend to liven crowds with our exciting up to beat music and bring smiles to faces! I highly recommened Driftwood Middle as an incredible school that students will love. Lastley two amazing teachers, besides Mr. Mortan, are Ms. Goldberg and Mrs. Turner. You learn so much in their classes, while having a BLAST!

The teaching and guidance staff here are excellent they really work with the kids and address issues quickly. Teachers make every effort to keep parents informed and this year we have the virtual counselor all parents need to use this tool my youngest son still attends driftwood it is his last year and this year he has been moved into all advanced classes! both my sons have gone to this school 2 yrs apart and i believe they received a tremendous education here both through their studies and in life.

I am a seventh grade gifted student currently attending Driftwood Middle. I entered the gifted program halfway through 6th grade. The gifted program at this school is exceptional. Students in the program experience a wide range of curriculum, including outdoor activities. I honestly feel that the gifted students are more privledged than the advanced students, having experienced the curriculum of both. The teachers I now have are amazing. Ms. Stasiw is my favorite teacher at DMS. She goes out of her way to make learning science more fun. In her class we tend to our garden, in which we have rare endangered insects and plants. Ms. Stasiw has sparked an interest of science in me and I will never forget her.

Great school, awesome teachers, clean and well prepared teachers. I am in the ESE department and I could not be happier! The reading teacher is the best! She lets kids work on there own levels and says failure is not an option so we all try to do ok in school.

My son was a sixth grade student last year and he cannot wait to go back to school in the fall. He was involved in three clubs, received a great education and most importantly loves school. I would recommend Driftwood Middle to all parents looking for a well rounded education for their child.

I am an eigth grade student in Port Saint Lucie, but I attended Driftwood for 6th-7th grade and, so far, these have been the best years of my life. I am a gifted student who took band and was a peer tutor. I met amazing people and the teachers are absolutley astonishing. Also, the band program is unlike any other. Mr. Morton, the band teacher, is the greatest band insructor I have ever and will ever have.

My daughter's second year at Driftwood. She loves the school, she is in all advanced and Gem's and now Peer Tutor. She has excelled academically and in her confidence level. I am very happy with everything except the apparent mandatory dress code with no exceptions for next year. Means all new wardrobe in the last year. Yuck and expensive.

My son is in his 3rd year and an ESE student. They are wonderful with him & are very patient with me, they treat me like family. Their support services are excellent (wether it be in class or pull-out. They make sure teachers follow the IEP (esp accomodations).Teachers keep me informed on a regular basis if something is not going right. Administration and support staff are very friendly and have an open door policy. Academics are very strong (I learn once again with my son). It's a Health &Wellness Magnet School.Greattt band (&teacher).Good parent involvment though we could always use more (this year in SAC we had more parents show up). Both my son & I are going to miss this school(now, which high school?). Anne

Driftwood is a Magnet School and focuses on Health and Welness. The school has a Challenge Course and a Fitness Room. My son likes this about this school because it keeps him in shape, healthy, and its fun. It's a clean school and has a good gifted program, with great teachers, but the other classes of lower levels have somewhat misbehaved kids and teaches just give bookwork and they don't learn anything. Only the gifted program is an actual benefit for the students. The school has band, baseball, volleyball, track, softball, and basketball. Its not a bad school but its not a great one either. Actually still one of the best schools because of Magent Program and Gifted Program.

My Son and Daughter attended Driftwood Middle. This a a great Magnet program. The administrators and staff are extremely helpful and the Resource Officer is always around to keep the school safe. The Education is of very high quality. It prepared my kids for high school. Overall the school is highly recomended by myself and my kids. Parents need to join the various programs available to learn more about the school. The P.T.A. is highly recomended. Thanks!

My son just started at Driftwood, 6th grade. At this point (3 weeks in) I am very impressed with the administration, the staff and the academic program at Driftwood. I was very skeptical at first being a magnet program, but now know that my son is in the best public school, he can be in. I know he is starting to get involved with extra activities and will have to comment in the future on this. I will also be attending my first PTA meeting tomorrow and will see how much parental involvement this school has. more to come BHill

I had originally registered my son at another school. Then I re-thought and sent him to Driftwood. He is in AP courses and in GEM Math. It was the best decision I made. Although he has to work harder, he loves it. The teaching staff sets high standards and is so conscientious. I appreciate their attentiveness and follow up. They really inspire the kids to go for it and assist them in getting there!
