I went to the school to be interviewed for a teachimg position. This school was absolutely filthy inside. I've seen schools 100 years old that look nicer. The floors and walls were gross. I used a paper towel to turn on the light in the ADULT bathroom. I can only imagine what the kids' bathrooms look like. The panel interview left me feeling like there were no real curriculum standards, amd teachers are very much on their own. They pay teachers below the already low Florida average. So they don't pay teachers or janitors, and they don't put money into technology and labs, so where does your money go, Imagine?
My son has been attending this school for almost 4 years now and so far we love it. My son looks forward to going to school every morning and every afternoon can't wait to come home and tell me what he's learned. Most classes I've seen have no more than maybe 20 students and most of the teachers are very social and engaging with the students. Yea the dress code is strict and some of the rules and personalities of the staff I don't agree with but that's not anything I can control, it's not enough of a constant issue to make me lose sleep over it, and in the real world we can't always shelter our kids from strict rules and rude people. The communication is great, I am constantly getting emails of projects and new events I can volunteer in. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I think the school is a little outdated in some areas compared to other schools around here but they have been making some renovations so it's a work in progress. Overall I would recommend it :)
Although my student no longer attends this school due to graduating this year, I must say both reviewers are correct. KCA has amazing faculty that instill character development in the students as well as striving to make them the best they can be academically. I would recommend KCA to parents looking for a friendlier school enviroment. Administration was a bit power hungry, the dress code sometimes stupid strict. Yes the school is a school of choice, but not by the student. I believe letting the child have a little choice in hairstyle, socks, or shoe choice is not disruptive to learning and should not be used for disciplinary action. Again, some of the teaching staff is the best in the county, you'll not find a better choice of schools in North East Osceola County.
I find it very silly to hear parents complain about the school uniforms dress code when they made the choice to send their kids to a uniform school. Where is the line? If one student is allowed to break dress code then it becomes unfair, but if a teacher tells a student he or she must adhere to the dress code then the teacher is focusing on the wrong thing? Part of this school is teaching character and responsibility, and adhering to a dress code should b a given since i is clearly outlined in the handbook. Just have your student wear the uniform and be thankful that he or she might actually learn something instead of worrying about what brand of clothes everyone is wearing. As a middle class parent I am grateful for the level playing field uniforms create. What a trivial battle to choose. Also, based upon the activity I have seen in the office when I am there, it looks like all adults there are trying to correct bad behavior. Volunteer in the school and you will see caring teachers, administration, and fellow parents who love the students and want to see them succeed. What a shame that anyone would be so eager to teach a kid to disregard rules. What kind of example does this set?
Let me just say that this school is turning UPSIDE DOWN. The people who work here focus too much on dress code and aren't opening their eyes and seeing what kids are REALLY DOING. They have to lay off the dress code stuff and lay off how you want to style your hair I MEAN SERIOUSLY?! You can't even put on a HEADBAND with a bow on it without being called out. I know they wanna be good at this stuff but they already crossed the line years ago. :|
This school has completely crumbled under the weight of the new administration. The principal is a vain woman and should have never become a principal. She overemphasizes on negative stuff about people. In fact, she open laughed about a student who has psychiatric issues in front of teacher meeting. The principal needs to be removed, fired from Imagine Schools, and every teacher that has been affected by her apologized to. If parents would listen to their children, they would pull them out of the school and forever abandon it due to his disintegration.
Kissimmee Charter is a great school with excellent teachers and staff. This is my child's first year in the sixth grade and he is very happy with this school and the teachers he has. The school keeps you informed of everything from grades to events through email and text messaging.
My school is a great school, It counts with great teachers and facilities. Students learn and love their school , for that and other more reasons I recommend Renaissance Charter School at Poinciana.
That is why I took my child out of that school. Hope they improve but that will happen when that principal is out of that school. They also need more extracurricular activities. She just want to save money and the kids are the one that suffer the consequences
I agree that some kids are treated differently than others. One teacher will give a mark in agenda for no ID and another will let it go. It seems that each teacher has their own rules for dress code. It isn't fair to the students because they don't know who is right or wrong. Also, some teachers work load is way over the top. They don't take into consideration that some students do not learn as quickly as others. Instead, they label them as "lazy".
KCA The worst school ,second grade have 39 kids in one class room,Teacher use inappropriate disciplinary actions. To many kids in one class room. They like to humiliate students with no reason.
I would say it is a great school because of the environment that is made helps a student learn and they have different programs that suit your child's needs. As a parent one as to take initiative don't leave it to your child. Any school would be a considered a bad school is you only went for the teachers.
The main problem at this school is the lack of care by teachers, coaches and principal. They are all too busy with their agendas and looking busy and on-task. There is no clear and uniformly enforced set of rules. Rules are enforced only on some kids/parents, and not properly communicated and enforced with everyone alike. Such actions anger and offend parents and students and make them be on edge and defensive. The saying goes: "It's not what you say, it's how you say it". I find this to be very true here. The principal and staff can learn to be a bit more tactful when communicating with parents and/or students, noting the huge difference from one to another. Also, rules are made, but not properly communicated to ALL parents, and eventually fail to be enforced on a consistent manner. this leads to more confusion and resentment from both groups. If teachers and staff give respect, they will get respect in return. Teachers should also focus more on teaching every child and bringing him/her up to par with love and positive reinforcement. Teachers should really care about their students. If the student fails, the teacher fails. Sorry, but thats the way it is.
Im a Student at KCA , and this is my second year here , and , I Absolutly HATE it here ! We have no freedom whatsoever. Yes , its ' uniform ' school , not the military. Some of the rules are becoming outrageous. I can't wait to get out of here , there just losing more students each year. My word is too focus more on the education instead of the apperance of the school.
Let me start by saying that I am also not a fan of the principal however, I think parents and students should focus more on quality of education and overall performance of this school compared to other schools. Parents/Students are upset about dress codes and new policies. I think that kids need to LEARN to follow rules and dress properly. Theres alot of kids out in malls and such that dress and behave inappropriately, so I think at least in school theres rules and policies to follow to train kids to be obedient. For parents that take their kids out of school because their favorite teachers left or some other insignificant reasons, youre actually teaching your kids to be a quitter. As long as theyre learning well, our kids should learn to face the music, deal with the changes and voice out any concerns pertinent to learning and character building. On the weekend and after school go ahead wear your two toned-bedazzled-funky jeans but in school its not gonna kill you nor your artistic sense to follow the dress code.
As a parent at this school, I agree with the comments on this principal Awful awful awful
im a middle school student at this school and today she (Mrs.mcCarley) went class to class and she said we can't wear certain jeans she made us go u in front of the whole class and pointed us out she is the worst principle ever she told us we could wear Christmas shirts and my friend was wearing a twisted Christmas shirt! and she made her go up to the front of the class and said she couldn't wear it because it wasn't Christmas! she is ridiculous i can't wait till i leave
As long as Mrs. Mc Carley is at this school it can not be the nice school that it once was. She is rude, unprofressional and just plain ignorant. I had my children in that school since kindergarten and pulled them out in the beginning of this school year. I was nervous about my decision and now we arealmost hallf way through the school year and I think I made the BEST decision EVER!!! GET THAT WOMAN OUT OF THAT SCHOOL!!!!
Worst school ever. No wonder why most of the good teachers left KCA and found better teaching positions at other schools. The new principal, now here for 2 years, is bringing this school down just like she did at her last school. The vice principal even left to go to a new school!! This used to be a wonderful school. I will NOT be enrolling my children here ever again. DO NOT enroll your child here! You will regret it!
Don't do it!! Great school/ kids with horrible leadership. If you want your child to go somewhere where the leadership is one big click and if they like you .. your golden. if they don't OH BOY LOOK OUT!! Wow, I thought we were suppose to be teaching our children the opposite of that !! HORRIBLE PRINCIPAL from a D school!!!
