Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I started my first year in this school and it's pretty nice, it does have it's problems too. Problems are the 8th graders think they own school so it's hard they pick on you and they know if your a sixth grade. But i haven't had any 8th graders pick on me since i don't talk to any and try my best to get outta trouble. The teachers are helpful and care to educate you. I came to the school with an F in math and finished my first year with a B in the class. The intensive classes don't really help at all since they just teach you what you learned in your regular class so it's a bummer i did not learn anything in intensive the only way i got by learning was in my regular math because all i had to do was focus. The school has its ups and downs the security guards should learn to keep their mouth shut when they curs around students and they should handle the 8th graders bullying everyone else in the lower grades other than that i give the school 4 stars.

If there was such a thing as a grading scale for students to rate their level of satisfaction at their school, from 1 to 10, I'd chose 9. I'm a soon-to-be ninth grader, and I'm proud to say Jorge Mas Canosa's been the school that has nurtured my mind and helped me grow emotionally and mentally, from an awkward kid to a future professional who knows her stuff. It's like a station in my educational career I had to pass, to really get my priorities and goals straight. When I discovered I wanted to be an architect, in sixth grade, my classmates were learning about linear perspective, and we had to draw a view of a city with what we had learned. I made a view from Dubai's famous skyscraper Burj; my teacher said it was cool but I should stick to rectangle buildings.I was in awe whenever I glanced at my first drawing. There was something about doing that, of the complexity of how such buildings were built and were capable of still standing in their grandeur without falling and squashing us mortals. I told my maths teacher I was interested in this subject, and she gladly explained that it was math that made it possible. Thanks to this, last March I applied for the engineering magnet program.

My daughter attended this school and she was very happy. At this moment my other two sons are attending and they have the same teacher as my daughter had. They are very professional and they respond to my emails or calls the same day.

Parents are saying good things about this school because what they are listening to is what their children are saying that probably enjoy the constant problems. I attended middle school there and I can say it was the worst three years of my life and I don't miss that school not one bit. There were constant fights, one morning up to 4 fights one right after the other. Several teacher were ridiculous I had injured my hip and my p.e coach made me run anyways. When problems were adressed to the school they were handled in all the wrong ways but I'm just glad I'm out of there and just for everyone to know I was in the cambridge program with great grades but I doubt any parent would want their child going to a C school.

My daughter attended the Cambridge academy which was beyond my expectations. She has flourished academically and challenged in a way that I had never imagined. The Cambridge teachers are more like involved parents and professional professors themselves - preparing these children for a true academic and ambitious life. They are the MOST involved teachers I have ever met, EVER! My daughter felt safe and sheltered from the rest of the school but did mention that having come from Zelda where the rules are more strict re: dress code and discipline, she did witness a lot more fighting and middle school type problems than before. I highly reccomend the Cambridge Academy and the teachers that really taught and treated my child as if they were at University level. I even feel that the exposure to a less strict environment better prepared my child for high school and better built her character and self confidence. Thank u JMC!

JMC and it's Cambridge Magnet program is simply amazing. I was hoping that my son would have an ok experience in middle school after hearing how tough these middle school years can be on students. Well I guess they haven't sent them to the right place. There is so much good happening here. From the curriculum, to the student activities, to the administration. They offer everything from morning care to community classes and even adult classes. JMC has become a beacon of hope and admiration for the residents of West Kendall. Keep up the great work.

This school is very cool i like it, because theirs block scheduale and hopefully they keep it like that. They need too make better food for lunch time and no homework. Homework is a waste of our time after us students that actually pay attention have too go home and do homework after 8 hours of school thats not right, especially on fridays. They also need too GET RID OF the tucking in the shirt of uniform. My favorite part of school is physical education because you get too work your body out and get a mental brake from thinking and its relaxing.

I love JMC because they care about your child and their future. The staff and teachers are focused & dedicated on making it happen for any child that is willing to make a difference. I'm also very pleased about their School's Safety Procedures and Security.Thank you JMC!!! MMA

I have been a teacher at Charter schools for five years now. My son was in a very small charter school, but I moved him to JMC in order to give him a new challenge and take advantage of the magnet program. School has only been in session for three weeks, so I am cautiosly optimistic, but so far, I am VERY pleased. My son is a relatively shy student, and he has made friends easily. The counselors have been incredibly helpful, and he likes all of his teachers except one (you can't expect perfection in that area). So far, 5 stars!!!

This school is a complete dissapointment. The administration takes no lead or concerns in the serious issues they have with bullying and behavorial issues. The school board should take serious action in watching this school. It is a shame based where it is located that the school's administrators ignore parental concerns. It is DEFINITELY NOT A SAFE SCHOOL. Shame on them.

I love walking in the halls of jmc.Ive made many friends and have improved my education alot. When i entered i was at a 3rd grade reading level and now im at a 7th grade level .So teachers have been doing their jobs darn right .Its great, clean (unlike my old school),and fun.The principle (ms.Silva) has tried very hard this year and is doing a great job. I understand that two years ago we recived a 'c' .But that was only due to the excuse that we didnt have 8th grader but now we will stay as an 'a'. So if you would like to registeryour child . I suggest that you do so.It would be nice to have another paladin join us!! Were the best of the best and will always be ...!! Goo palidians!!

This school is an incredible school. Being a parent of several students that have gone through MDCPS, I have had the pleasure and anguish of dealing with various groups of teachers and administrators. JMC simply is the best of the best. The teachers are responsive to the concerns of the parents and are always concerned about the students and their success. From an administrative point of view, I have never dealt with a more professional and thorough team. They have a new principal this year, Mr. Silva, and I wish every administrator in the schools system would be as good as him. He identifies easily with the students and makes the parents feel welcomed. As a parent, I feel that he has the best interest of my child and me in mind when making a decision. My hats off to Mr. Silva and his staff, simply the best.

Okay, What I've been noticing in these posts is that, this school is getting bad reviews by parents, but, as a fellow student said before, it's us, the kids who attend this school, not the parents. Of course like every middle school, there's some violence, but not that much!, it's only been here for about 2 years!, give it some time to adjust. I was a 6 grader last year, sure, there were some picky kids that don't hang out with 6th graders cause it'll ruin their 'rep', but that doesn't mean you won't get friends!, there's 2,000 kids in this school for god's sake! Parents, if you have doubts about enrolling your kids in this school, then, take it from me, a student, it's a really good school, it has teachers with experience and good management.

My daughter was transferred from Hammocks Middle School to JMC in 7th grade. She is in Gifted/Honors/Cambridge classes and I believe that she is in a more comfortable learning environment. The teachers are awesome and are all inclined to teach her what is best. Yes, there are many fights but if your child does not stand around and watch them, they should have no problem. Remember in every school there are kids that can corrupt the learning environment, it is up to our children to behave properly. I know for a fact, that the administration is doing a great job trying to prevent and keep these fights from happening. I would recommend this school to everyone and am happy that my two other children will attend this school, too. Congratulations Dr. Ortiz for a great job!

I love this school! JMC is awesome. JMC has tons of fun, victorious, and exciting clubs and teams. The administration always has our best interest in mind. The school is bilingual. JMC is a beautiful and mordern in technology. The people there are great if you hang out with the right people. Sure our school has its ups and downs but I really believe that our school is great. The teachers there are really fun and try different ways of teaching students so that you'll learn. I'm a seventh grade student at JMC and take honors and advanced classes. I've been at the school since it first opened up last year for sixth grade. The school is still new and there is a lot of work that gets done. I do think that our school can improve on behavior but that's not really the schools fault. Proud to be a Paladin!

I have worked in the Miami-Dade school system for eighteen years and I can not believe that some of our parents consider us as a bad school, yes as a new school we have had many wrinkles to iron out. All of us came together from many different schools and many different ideas to form a new family. I wish some of our super spoiled parents would take a field trip to the really bad schools, places that have to have a school policeman in house 24/7. Dicipline has to be taught at home before the start school. We can not undo in 8 hours what parents failed to the in 11 years. We have a great school, great kids, great staff, and a super Principal.

This is an excellent school!!! I absolutely think some of these comments left aren't deserved because I actually am a student of this school and get to experience what a good school it is. Also, that parents shouldn't really worry about the grade the school has because that grade depends on the students and its their responsibilty as parents to teach them how to be a good student. Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School roks my soks!!!! Thank you have a nice day:)

This school is being reviewed badly by parents. However, it is not the parents who attend it and therefore they cannot comprehend how amazing this school is. Yes, there are discipline problems. That is the student's fault, not the administration's. This is the school's second year and I am exceedingly proud to be amongst the FIRST eighth grade graduating class. I am in the gifted, honors, International AND Cambridge programs. I cannot speak highly enough of these. The teachers are dedicated and efficient. The administration is simply outstanding. Dr. Ortiz, the principal, is dedicated to us and is doing an excellent job of leading this great school. Now, the reason we are currently a C school is that we did not have an eighth grade class last year; the district gave us the county average for that grade. Please listen to the words of a student, one who actually attends JMC.

This is my son's first year, and so far he loves the school. He has seen several fights, they do have a problem with troubled kids, Middle school is a tough time for kids and parent involvement is important. My son is in the gifted/advance classes so his friends are kids that want to learn and enjoy school. I would not have my child attend this school if not for the gifted/advance program.

This school opened in Aug. 2007. They had some placement problems in the begining but that was due to the information received from the elementary schools. We also had a transportation problem because there are only five houses on my street that are more then the two road mile distance from the school. This took some time to correct. The teachers that I have dealt with are very courteous and helpful. My observation is that there was a core group of about 15 that really were excited about being at a new school and the others were just there. The administration is very helpful and responds in a timely manner when called or emailed. The office staff does have a bit of an attitude. I have a son attending the school this year as a seventh grade and he loves going to the school.

The old saying never judge a book by its cover definitely applies here. This is a new school and it is beautiful. However, it lacks in every other area. I cannot speak of the Gifted or accelerated programs, but the regular education is a sham. Thanks to the online grade book we were able to see that grades are inflated. That is, our child would have a B in the class, but was failing tests. Grades are brought up by trivial assignments, i.e. bring a form back signed and you get an A ! It was no surprise that the school received a C grade. This is an embarrassment to the community, the Principal should resign!

This school has been a big let down. The teachers do not respond to emails, making communication extremely difficult, at best. This was my child s first year in middle school and the disconnect between the school and us (the parents) was detrimental. In addition, the office staff is extremely rude and the Principal was arrogant, defensive, and completely unhelpful when concerns were brought to his attention (which may explain the lack of professionalism from the office staff). Perhaps now that he is the proud principal of a C school he can plant his feet on the ground, listen to parents concerns, and make some serious changes. I plan on taking my child out for a fighting chance at being prepared for high school.

For a new school...everything seems to be running pretty smoothly. The only problem is...they tend to lose absence excuses sent by parents,..which leads to unecessary calls to school to straighten out. But all in all, Im happy with this school and curriculum.
