INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Pricipal Ennis is a great leader for this school. This school now boasts of an "A" rating in the Miami Dade County Public Schools rating system ("F" being the lowest). My son is enrolled in the I-Prep program which is super challenging, event for a gifted student. I chose this school over other's he was accepted to (MAST Academy, Coral Reef, Columbus (Private)) for the down to personality of most of the students, the excellent curriculum, awesome sports programs and easy access to public transportation. This school is in a neighborhood with million dollar homes and that campus is expansive. It is a large school that feels small due to the dedication of the teachers and support staff. The administration evens attends the local varisty sports events to show their support for their students. I LOVE this school

Killian is a very good school. I'm going to be a junior this upcoming year. I hear many people say Killian is a bad school and that bad kids go there but its not true. Every school is going to have those "bad kids". The school offers so much to its students. The principal Mr. Ennis is amazing. The teachers, for the most part, are great. I recommend Killian to other students. Of course every school has its downsides but overall I love it.

Killian has good teachers that have high expectations of us. Most were always willing to lend an extra hand to help you learn before or after school. All schools have their share of bad/ uncaring teachers. I have friends in the other local high schools (magnet and well-established schools with excellent reputations), and each year they've had their complaints about some of their teachers-- Killian is no exception but overall a good school and learning environment. My suggestion: always take the highest level classes you can.

This school has an open communication policy. The principal is accessible as are the APs. The teachers are responsive. Communication is excellent. Killian still provides a great rounded education. Dual enrollment classes are a wonderful asset as well.

Weak Spots: - Principal - Getting Contact w/counselors - Emphasis on orchestra - money management I have never seen the principal. It's quite difficult to get in contact with my counselor. Band is supported, but the school ignores the fact that the Orchestra teacher is not as interested in Orchestra as he really should be. Also, they spent all this money on making the school look good, yet they don't have enough money for class sets of textbooks. Strong Points: - Gifted and AP Teachers - Choral and Band program - Sports - Vice Principal I never had any regular teachers whilst in Killian, but I can vouch for the majority of the Gifted, Honors, and AP teachers. The choral and band program are phenomenal. I know most of the Sports teams are always very successful, and the a.p. is willing to talk to all of the students on a personal level.

Both of my kids graduated from Killian. My opinion is that Killian is a great school. my kids were very well prepared for college. The counselor could have help them a little bit more but I guess they are overwhelmed by the amount of kids rheyneed to attend to. I think the principal, Mr. Rodriguez has done a lot of good things in keeping the school nice looking and clean and a safe enviroment. All the teachers that my kids had where very well prepared and very professional, My experience with this school was a very good one and I was very pleased.

Im a 9th grader in killian, and i think its a pretty good school. Yeah i do know kids that are doing drugs, but youre gonna have those in every school, right? The teachers are good in ap, honor, and regular classes. They actually teach you.I do have to say that killian has a large variety of excurricular activities for every intrest type. I guess i'll say im glad im going to killian.

I have had two children attend this school. I can only assume the complexities involved in running a school of this size so I am certain that the principal has his hands full. Good leadership, however, needs to extend out to the people who are in most contact with the students and parents who are their customers. Both of my children have had very unpleasant experiences with the same counselor (which are assigned by student's last name). The counselor is rude and downright nasty to the students. Perhaps the wonderful principal needs to remind this one counselor why she is there and what her job entails. Aside from this rude woman, the rest of the staff seems dedicated and I am most impressed with the JROTC program. Those gentlemen are most professional. Perhaps they can deal with that counselor.

I am a 9th grader attending killian now, and what can I say but 'wow what a great school'? At first was a bit upset coming so far away from my home to go this school, but after I realized the vast amount of extracurricular activites they have, I was amazed. The teachers are also great! It's quite relaxing to enter into every class and see a teacher with a smile on their face everday! Not to mention the rare fights we see! I feel right at home in killian and I will to stay there until I become a graduate!

I attended Killian for all 4 years and graduated class of 07. I must say Killian is a good school. It offers a vast amount of extracurricular activities as well as AP classes, you dont find that in many schools. The teachers are great, at least the ones who teach honors and AP, from my experience I didnt take any regular ones, so im not the one judge. the counselors are very attentive and understanding as well, it is easy to tell that they honestly care about the well being of the students. Going to Killian was a wonderful experience. I am greatful that I went there I wouldnt have been able to get into such a great university (the best in Florida) if i had gone somewhere else.

My son just started at Killian High School. I like the school, but most of all I am very impressed with the kidness of all the teachers. Everyone at this school is nice and go out of their way try to help you. Starting with Mrs. Palmas, who is very caring person. The Biology teacher Ms. Ireland, the math teacher for 9th grade, the Spanish teacher, the World History teacher, and English teacher among others. Coach Bruce (Tennis) is a friendly and nice person. Thank you for taking the time to talk to my son. I am very grateful and thankful my son goes to Killian High School where kids are always welcome! I almost forgot the securities who always were smiles. Thank you, Gracias, Merci!

I must say, Killian is definitely built up of teachers who don't care about their students, and some who really do take students under their wing. My child has been at Killian for the past two years, and he's had his fare share of good and bad teachers. I've needed to speak to the principal once, and I can assure you, parent's don't lie about how Killian's principal, Mr. Rodriguez, has little or no involvement with the school. I got the same 'He's in a meeting' excuse when I went in. If you're looking for a school that's great for your child, you might want to think of Killian as a last resort when you compare other close by schools.

I have to agree with this student, I am parent and while my daughter was a student there, all I heard is that the principal was in a meeting, and unfortunately I never spoke to the principal, I only met him at the beginning of school year and then he disappeared?

My son has been a student at Killian the past two years. He loves it. Overall, I have found secondary teachers to be not as communicative as the elementary schools, but the online grade book enables parents to see their child's progress. I have heard of no locked doors, other than from the outside as it helps to keep out those who should not be entering the school. The academic program is challenging for my son who is in AP and Honors classes. As with most secondary schools, the parental involvment is not as strong as in elementary schools. The more involved one is with their child's education, the better the ducation the child will get.

Killian is a horrible school. Especially for children who have a learning disability. My child has been there for 2 years and the teachers make no effort to try and help. He slips thru the cracks as they say. No phone calls or alerts. Kids are being caught with drugs. No dicipline except for the stupidest things. My child had his IEP done and it has been a year. I have requested my papers which I have a right to and they still have yet to send them to me. The school is over crowded and lack education.

Killian is a joke. Security consists of black-and-white cameras, and security guards who poorly do their job. But, the teachers are great. Yes, there are some that put absolutely no effort into teaching, but you have those in every school. No principal involvement whatsoever (I didn't know what he looked like until a week ago).'Tis a sad experience to be enrolled in Killian.
