Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am a graduate from Miami Sunset Senior High and I can tell you that this is an amazing school! I have had nothing but great memories here! Teachers and staff are great, the school atmosphere in general makes you feel very comfortable. It has prepared me for college academically wise. If I can go back to my senior year I definitely would.

When I was there, it was a decent school. I had maybe three teachers who invested their time to help me be a better student and musician. I graduated in 2011 and there are some things about it that I do miss.

The reviews that are saying that this is a great school were written as a JOKE by my peers. None of the recent graduates from Sunset are attending Ivy League schools. I graduated from this school this year (2013). I can honestly say that Sunset did absolutely nothing for me as a student. The faculty is a joke. Whenever I needed advice or help, nobody knew or cared to help. I was in all honors and AP classes, which were taught by the "best" teachers, but even many of them refused to answer simple questions or explain something to me that I didn't understand. The regular-level teachers do nothing but hand out worksheets. I can honestly only say I had 3 teachers that genuinely cared about me and my education. By the time you are a senior there is nobody to ask questions to about college or scholarships. I am headed to a very good university, full ride, but if it wasn't for me going out of my way and finding info about schools, scholarships, etc, I would have nothing, like many intelligent classmates I knew. Do your BEST to steer clear of this school. Almost ANY high school in Kendall is better than this. The only good thing I can say is that I felt safe on campus.

Simply the Best!! An amazing academic environment, and students are proud to be here. Just visit our website and see for yourself. We are the most spirited school in KendalI; It's a Knight Thing!! All of that plus scholarships to the best Universities too! Our AP program is the largest, so why would you even consider any other school?

It is a colleg prep school, with a remarkable staff!! The AP program is second to none. Sunset's graduates attend Harvard, Princeton, UF, and Stanford. The sports program is great. Football, Basketball and Softball scholarships are plentifull. Simply the best school in Miami!!

It's like a college prep school only better!!Every student can take Music, Art, Science, as well as Medical Science, Computer science, Video Production, Law and more. As electives, you can take whatever interests you so that you are sure of what you want to study in college. I received a well rounded education, and so can you!!! I left the reef to go here, it was the best decision of my life. I'm at Princeton now

An excellent institution that will prepare your child for college. High quality teachers and the students are disciplined and want to be here. Many children transfer here because the environment is friendly and your child will learn!! Always top ten in sports too!!

My daughter is a graduating senior, but i'm sorry to say she is not prepared properly for college. She has low scores in basic math, and is having to take remedial math in college, by the way she is an honor roll student. Does that make any sense to you. Unfortunately our schools teach kids how to pass fcat, and that is all that matters. I'm very disappointed in education my child received at sunset.

I think the best thing that has happened to this school is Dr. Cox. Her doors are always open for the parents and that is what schools need. The problems is not the school, teachers or staff it is that parents don't get involved. Because your child is in High school it's not over it is just starting.

I am a former student of miami sunset and I have to say that I absolutely hated school. the school was overcrowded. there was no involvement with teachers. the teachers seemed like they didnt care whether the students passed or failed which in return most of the students ended up failing. It did nothing for me to prepare for college. There was no school spirit from the students from the students because nobody enjoyed going to school.

Miami Sunset is academically excellent!! We have more graduates that get into top rated colleges than any other Dade County school ( Yes.. even more than those magnet schools). The teachers prepare you for college not just for an Fcat. Some teachers have been here for more than 20 years!!

Miami Sunset Senior High is a phenomenal school. I can say that because I attended the school all four years from my freshman year to my senior year. Sunset was built in 1977 and opened its doors that same year. Beginning in the late 1990s, Sunset became one of many overcrowded schools in the county, due to the recent population explosion in the metropolitan area. It is one of the best schools I have ever attended were I have learned alot over all courses. not only did i learn but teachers also showed us real life uses. If it wasn't for miami sunset senior high I don't know where I'd be today. As of today I am currently enrolled into one of florida's best colleges and my major is business concentrating on industrial business. Thank you so much miami sunset senior high. I am so glad that I transferred out of Coral Reef to go here. This school is amazing. I took several different electives and the AP classes are challenging, and nobody acts like they are better than you. Don't fall into the magnet trap...they really keep you locked into one box!!! Sunset has brought me back to life. I'm looking forward to college.

Without a doubt this is the best school in Miami Dade. Safe, Fun, and Educational. Sunset graduates get into the same colleges as the mega magnet, and are much better rounded and prepared for the real world. The spirit of the school is amazing, I should know I transfered out of the Reef because of the back stabbing. Best decision I ever made. Go Knights!!! I'm off to Princeton.

I am currently a student at miami sunset senior high school and I am in the top ten of the school. Along the way, I have met some inspiring teachers and unique individuals with bright futures ahead of them. It just goes to show that the grade given to schools is only so because of the variety of students in that school...You can't hide that knight pride!

Although ranked as a 'D' school, Miami Sunset is a superior academic institution. The teachers there enjoy their profession and do an excellent job sharing their love of knowledge with their students. I am proud to be a Sunset Knight.

Sunset is a great school. The students really care about each other and they are so spirited!!!Very very safe environment. It was great for my son because he could chose to take a variety of classes that he liked, as opposed to a magnet school where you are forced to study one thing for 4 years. My daughter went to the Reef and after the 2nd year she wanted to study something else and could not, so from experience I would recommend Sunset over any magnet program.

I'm very dissapointed in the administration. For the past 2 years the school has been steadily declining. Sunset was 1 point away from a B rating two years ago and now they are a D school. That is unacceptable. The website is below average and nothing is being done to improve the schools reputation. The English language is not a priority there and it shows in the test scores. Our students deserve better!

All 4 of my children have attended Miami Sunset Senior High. My fourth child will graduate from Sunset High School in 2008. My children did very well at Sunset and were always involved in extra curriculum activities. Advisors and administrators have always responded immediately to any of my concerns. Sunset has an outstanding security system. I will continue to look forward to be associated with Sunset High School as I now have 3 grandchildren of which two will attend Sunset High. Hats of to Sunset Knights! Gloria Vallina

The most spirited and safe school in Miami! The academic opportunities are great. The teachers are experienced and the students really get along.I transfered from the reef because of gangs, and this school is so much safer. The AP classes are challenging, but much better than the other school.

I am currently a student at MS, a senior, and thus my experience so far has been quite a challenge. The faculty including teachers, administrators, and other staff are very dedicated in providing us a great educational experience. The teachers definitely stimulate our cerebral cortex, and make our neutrons fire off with each test we're given. Overall, it's a great school.(as vague as that may sound)

Miami Sunset Senior High School is a better than average school. The students, for the most are challenged academically and incentives are in place to motivate them to do better each day as well as each grading period. The school Principal is highly involved in student's progress academically as well as in sports. In general the student ambiance is safe, friendly, and mature. Most teachers will get parents involved in child's progress if grades drop or student attitude changes drastically. Overall it is a good school which offers extracurricular activities, thus bringing the students together outside the school daily environment and also with their community.

I studied at Miami Sunset Senior High since 2000 and graduated in the class of 2004. Attending this school was one of the greatest experiences in my life. I met the greatest teachers and learned a lot about life. I went to this school when I got here to Miami from Venezuela, and at the beggining I was pretty scared of starting a new life here in the US, but thanks to my teachers, especially Mr. Frank Caballero, I stood up to those fears and here I am, a graduate from Miami Sunset Senior High, currently employed by one of the top airlines in the industry. I'm very happy with this school and I'll never forget it. Thanks Sunset!

I think this an awesome school. My son went and graduated from Sunset, and my daughter is going to 11th grade, she had really hard times last year and the whole staff helped her with her problems. My son came to this school on a hardship and I can't explain how much happier we are here-at first it was hard for him and we fought about him wanting to go back to his home school (which was never an option) however there's no more arguments and I'm extremely impressed with the difference between the two high schools. There is no where near the violence-security actually does their job and also I believe the teachers are much more involved-they actually call you or call back if you call them. I called once and asked for the principal and within minutes he was on the line-never would that have happened at his home school! I was just calling to give a teacher a compliment. I can't say enough nice things about this school--I love it!
