My daughter who is now a Sophmore graduated from Ammons and I can say that it was a wonderful school. Teachers are really committed and dedicate their time to make sure the kids are on point and ready for whichever high school they decide to attend. I would say having my daughter attend this school was a great decision and would recommend this school to anyone who is seeking for a higher level of education for their son or daughter.
I am a former student at Ammons. The 3 years that I attended there was truely an amazing experience. The education and dedication that the teachers and administration offered helped the students like me to strive and helped prepare us for high school. The curriculum can be challenging at times but the teachers there are more than willing to help you along the way to reach your goal. There are feild trips, clubs, teams, and many rewards for the students allowing them to have an incentive to keep on thriving in their work. Ammons is a wonderful and great school for any child to attend. It is like a huge family who help each other. There is no bullying, prejudice or fights. It is a safe and well coordinated academic environment that anyone from student to parent to community would fall in love with. I strongly recommend any student to attend this school. GO EAGLES!!!!
It has been a great experience having my child attend this school. If you want your kids to go to what is in my humble opinion the best possible Middle School then, look no further. If your child is lucky enough to get into this school then make whatever sacrifice needed but get them here. Just be aware that as a parent you must be involved and be aware of all the requirements to graduate especially if you want the I.B. Certificate which I highly recommend your child strive for. Currently they have a great Principal and Program. The school is very safe as most children here are all serious students and trouble makers or children with poor grades are relegated to their home schools quickly. Going to Herbert A. Ammons Middle School is a privilege so act accordingly. Good Luck!
I am a student at Ammons and I think this is a great school. Sometimes the teachers do give a little too much work, but it prepares you in class. The i.b really helps in the future when youre signing up for high schools. I really do like the school even though it is a trailer park. If you are thinking about enrolling your student in this school you should! The teachers are great and very nice. Your child would be happy to go here, trust me. Execpt for academics, the school has great clubs and teams. The track team and cross country team are absolutley amazing and its a great experience.
I love the school. It works as a community where everybody cares about everybody else. Excellent class environment and the teachers are always available to help you out with any concernes you could have about your kids. The kids have to work very hard and they are always challenged.
Having been here at Ammons Middle for 3yrs. (8th grade now) - I have to tell you - This school is AWESOME!!! Really, the stories I've heard from other schools don't come close. I'm so happy I had the chance to expose my child to this school... My daughter is in Honor/advance classes - she gets the work, if ever an issue teachers work with her to make sure the work is understood. When I send emails and have questions, they respond. The band there is also amazing. Teachers, Academics, Staff/Principal all on point, they respond to any concerns childs academics etc. I see why they get a 9-10 grade and are always an A school. I'm so going to miss this school as we're preping for HS magnet applications. Other schools should mirror the way Herbert A. Ammons is run - we would have better prepared student going forward to build our future.
i am acurrent 6th grader and ammons middle s AWESOME!!!!!! the classess are fun, the teachers are loving and caring, and the staff is very nice. there r a lot of security around the school so its very safe.
My oldest son graduated from this school, it is such an excellent school that prepared him for high school and got him into a magnet program for HS. He made great friends and got a great education!
I am a current 8th grader at Ammons M.S and I honestly can't think of a better place to be in the past 3 years of my life! My elementary school was so boring compared to Ammons. There were barely any field trips, the yearbook was stupid, and they barely congratulated us for doing well in anything! However, when I entered Ammons, I felt like I was just so loved by everybody! The teachers, the students, even the administration!!! Ammons is truly a unique place that everybody will immediately fall in love with. Ammons has taught me to take my education seriously, strive to succeed and go exceedingly far in life! Ammons will always be kept in my heart.
Hi there! Our son is a 6th grader at Ammons. So far we are extremely pleased with the way this school is run. Most teachers seem to be genuinely dedicated to making sure your child is successful. Of course there are some exceptions! I have already had a significant run in with one instructor that thought she could judge & label my kid. I was not shy about giving her my thoughts on her behavior and now it seems like we are going to be ok. Lesson for parents on this one is stand up and be an advocate for your child. One GREAT thing about ammons is the PTA. They make sure parents have a chance to be involved. We both work full time, but there is ample opportunity to be involved. Finally, I have to comme on some of the amzaing staff at ammons. Ms. Garcia in the Media center is amzaing. she is always there for the kids. I have never seen a library that is such a popular hot spot. Mrs. Santiago, Mrs. Torres, Mrs. Cabrera, and Mr. Pardo..................THANK YOU for making my son LOVE going to school!!! you guys ROCK!!
Hey! I am a student at Ammons Middle and I love it. There are a few teachers who give a lot of work and are very strict but then you have teachers like Mr. Mullin , Ms. Fletcher , and Mr. Mike for science who are just great teachers and make the class fun. Electives are a lot of fun too. Chorus is amazing it's such a fun class and you really learn a lot. I've heard that art, drama, and all the other electives are a lot of fun too. They also have many activities to help you get your service hours like school beautification day and the walk-a-thons and they can be really fun. The IB portfolio can be a lot of hard work, but it helps you to understand the work you are doing at Ammons and the purpose of doing it. My past years at Ammons have been really good and if you are thinking of coming here, I think you will realize once you go that you have made the right choice. We have a lot of fun activities and classes here that I'm sure you will enjoy so go to Ammons!
I am a student at Ammons currently, and I can say that this school is great. It isnt completely perfect, however. Like all public schools, there are a couple of batty teachers or staff and administration that aren't very popular with other students. However, the good teachers outnumber the bad by a lot. Teachers such as The Earles (algebra), Mr. Mike (earth-space science), Mr. Hutchinson (band+guitar) and Mr. Mullen (6th grade geography) really stand out. Additionally, the IB program gives students a half-semester of P.E. and Technolpgy each, a foreign language, and a 40minute study period every morning to read and study. It also adds community service requirements, which aren't bad, and IB "learner profiles" and a portfolio required to get your IB Certificate. Thus, the school is slightly more angled to those better at reading and Language Arts. The school isnt as demanding as thought of, unless you get an elusive teacher that assigns a lot of work. There are only one or two points in the year when it gets really frantic. As for the kids, just remember that admissions are randomly chosen out of the eligible, so all arent that well behaved or smart. Current 7th Grader
My child attends Herbert A. Ammons Middle School and is in the 7th grade. I think the truth about the school is in the middle. The IB curriculum is great. Each teacher has the opportunity to be great. Some abuse the priviledge. The environment is excessively competitive and can be deterimental depending on the child. I have personally met with several teachers who have no shame or conscious when talking to children and neither did I when I talked to them. The administration does nothing to provide a positive "tone". The teachers appear to know the curriculum but that does not a teacher make. Some definately need to retire and find themselves. I would advise any parent to remember that you know your child. Weigh their concerns and act accordingly. And the student was right, the things they say to your children are not the things they say to you. That is why there is a region and a district!!!!!!
My child is a 7th grader at Herbert Ammons MS. My child attended a Christian based school from K2 thru to the 5th grade. I would not have sent my child to any other public middle school in Miami Dade county with the exception of Herbert Ammons. This is a great school with a lot of parent and student involvement. Obviously, the student below has a lot of issues he/she need to work out with their parents and a therapist.
I am a student at ammons and i can honestly say this is the worst school in dade-county. The atmosphere is horrible. The school is baisically a trailer park. the bathrooms are repulisive and the walls literally drip with tar. The a.c. always breaks and the rooms are either extremely hot or extremely cold. Besides the fact that the school itself is ugly, but the teachers are horrible. They are mean and mostly just a joke. The teachers there love to play tricks with your mind and make you feel dumb, then when your parent comes along to talk to them they lie and tell them nothing is wrong. Not only the teachers are bad, but the people to, everywhere you go you are put down or there are people talking about you. This school needs an absolute attitude check. The school only acts its best when a. i.b. representative or someone else comes along for a checkup. I can truly say if the school was secretly video recorded it would be stripped of all its rewards. And not to mention that the school gives an overload of work. If you want a students opinion, don't go to Ammons Middle School it'll be the worst decision you make.
A great school has excellent leadership, caring and competent teachers who challenge their students, and a well-rounded academic program. Ammons has all of these attributes.
Getting a hold of any teacher is impossible! and when finally someone calls you back its a counsler that takes a very defensive roll on explaining how the teachers are never wrong. For the most part there are wonderful teacher at ammons, but on the other hand some others are a joke.I am not happy when the counsler tells me that a B grade is alright and that theres nothing to worry about instead of finding out or siding with teacher and feeling he has to protect them, He should realize that the school along with the parents have the same goal making sure that the student reaches his/her full potential.
My daughter just graduated from 8th grade and I can tell that its an excellent school. The teachers are incredible, the extra-curricular activites are outstanding. Not to mention the amazing drama program and its dedicated teacher Mrs. Barson. The students work hard but get their rewards for it. The school is in a safe environment and they motivate the students to be envolved in clubs and sports.
I don't know what the parent before is talking about. I have taught at Ammons for 10 years and I can confirm what others students have said. The workload is a bit much, but once you get a handle on it, you're off to a great future. This school is not for slackers, but for kids are truly serious about their school goals and their future. I LOVE AMMONS, THE FACULTY, THE KIDS, AND YES, EVEN THE PARENTS....
From my experience the 6th grade curriculum was very impressive. After that I do not even know what my child is learning in school for the exception of his math studies due to the lack of teacher parent interaction and lack of homework. The curriculum seems to have declined and homework is minimal if any at all. Not a challenging school after 6 grade.
