Great school, great Staff, very nice teachers that care about teaching. My daughter has excelled in this school and the FCAT scores prove it. Best school district BY FAR in the State of Florida.
My son has graduated from this school and my daughter is now attending. We have had NO issues to speak of. The teachers are fantastic and care about their students. They do the best they can within the budget constraints they face so don't be surprised if there is no gymnasium or band class. They may teach to alot of the FCAT but what do you want them to teach to? Liberal philosophy? Finger painting? They teach the 3 Rs well and throw in other honest learning such as social studies and science. Tomorrow when we have more money than we know what to do with we can buy all new band equipment, a new gym and playground, ipads for all the students and have a 5:1 student to teacher ratio. Until then the basics will have to do and West Navarre does it well. Look at it this way, other schools teach to the FCAT as well...and still fail.
the principle at this school is the rudest person ive every met she should never became a principle my child has been in holly navarre inter. since kindergarten we moved and now he has to go to west navarre and its the worst school im going to move back to the holly navarre district that's how bad the principle is
My daughter went to this school for three years before we moved out of state. I agree with the other reviews that way TOO much emphasis was put on the FCAT. I also did not feel welcome and was treated very rudely on more than one occasion by the principal (Ratliff). My daughter did have some great teachers there, but they were limited with what they could do because of the principal's 'rule'. I wouldn't want my son to go there because the kids weren't allowed to be kids, they didn't have recess or get to do anything fun. It was just study, study, study for the FCAT. It was a blessing we moved.
My child attends West Navarre Intermediate School. I could not be more happy with a school. They employ WONDERFUL teachers and staff. I rate the school an absolute 10!!
hi im a student at WNIS i love it there i think its the best school in the world they have very good way of teaching and i dont want to have any other school
We just moved here from California and to say WNIS is far superior to the school my daughter attended there would be an understatement. My daughter loves her teacher and welcomes the academic challenges with open arms. WNIS is very well-organized and appears to have a large number of parents involved in the school, although I haven't seen a newsletter from the PTO yet. The office staff (especially Caroline) is very helpful and informative. The pick-up/drop-off works really well. The only complaint I have is the librarian, who has more than on one occasion, discouraged my daughter from reading. Yes, I agree that there is way too much emphasis on the FCAT, which in all fairness, is how schools and principals are rated. The majority of schools in the U.S. focus on passing their standardized tests instead of actually 'teaching,' albeit WNIS does spend a little more than I'm used to.
This school and florida schools for that matter put way too much attention on FCAT. The principal of this school rules with an iron fist and the parents are not involed at all. Notes arent even sent home for discipline issues.
My child has attended school here since she was in kindergarten (before it changed to an intermediate school) and I've had nothing but positive experiences here. My child has had some special-needs issues, and the school has always been helpful. Last year, when she had some academic issues, the teacher called us in for a conference and set out a plan to deal with those issues and she improved. She has loved all of her teachers. Of course it's not perfect, but not many schools are. I read some of these reviews and wonder if our kids are at the same school! I've always been greeted warmly when I've come in and felt welcome when I can for lunch or to volunteer.
I enjoyed this school a lot and disagree with most of the reviews said. The teachers enjoy teaching there students and give the students some laughs there is lots of times where they let the students earn there free time. Some of the teachers are strict that is true. But they do it so they don't have to see the children get hurt. The less strict teachers get the job done and allow lots of time for recess. I think my class deserved the amount of time given. But unless we acted horrible that day then we were allowed to soacialize at recess. And had plenty fo time to do it. If you did not have or couldn;t afford the equipment listed then the teachers would help to try and see if there was any way to get that supplies for that child. And i think that this is a very good school and plebty of children will enjoy it. And that is my full opinion on it.
This school has poor facilities, and has too much focus on the FCAT. The teachers hardly allow any recess, and hardly let the kids socialize at all. They are strict, but ignorant of some children's needs. The principals don't show a lot of respect to the kids, and ther needs to be better parent-teacher communication services.
The quality of academic programs at this school seems very much on a case by case basis. While both of my sons teachers, last year and this year, were wonderful. Last year we routinely saw grueling hours worth of homework every night. This year we were told to expect very little. This year also welcomes a new Principle, so I guess it's a wait and see situation. The reception area could definitely be more 'approachable' and welcoming, instead of making you feel you are in the way and not wanted on the premises. It can be somewhat intimidating and almost seems like your efforts to participate in your childs education are being thwarted. There definitely seems to be a breakdown in communication between office staff and Teachers, with the (front) office staff seeming to have the authority over teachers, often leaving them in the dark about parents attempts at communication.
My daughters went to this school for two years. I liked some of the teachers but others are too slow to respond to a child's needs. Too much emphases on FCAT and not enough on actual teaching to retain. Remember, study hard for a test and then dump the information. It was a shame seeing the teachers only caring about students who could give the classroom high FCAT scores. What about the ones who need the extra nudge? Some of you were too quick to get them out of your class--this is what I experienced.
I am not a fan of this school. I have been very disappointed about the level of communication between administration and parents. This is my first year at this schoool after being rezoned from a nearby school. The teachers seem ill informed as well. Walking through the halls is chilling. Noone seems to be very friendly and welcoming. I as a parent do not feel welcome to volunteer and work in the school. I am very involved at the primary level and would have liked to have been here as well. There are not as many programs offered and those that are aren't advertised or well prepared for. My personal experience this year has been negative. I have plans to ask for permission to rezone next year as I will have two students attending intermediate.
This school's principal is very hands-on in her approach to curriculum, in order to maintain high student test scores in reading and math. The school is continuing to work on developing a program to improve student writing. Music and art are given only once per week, though, and sports are only part of PE (which is given daily). Parents are very involved in volunteering in the classrooms, media center, on field trips, etc. Overall, I am mostly pleased with the education my children are receiving here.
My child went to WNES for only one year, and now we really miss it. A brand new modern facility with closed circuit tv and air conditioning is no small matter to be taken for granted! The teachers and staff were very friendly. Given the choice, I would send my child there again!
The school is going above the grade level in teaching what they should know and do for that grade. They just should do work for each child grade level.
I am not thrilled with this school. The teachers seem unhappy, which in turn rubs off on the kids. Nobody ever smiles. The kids don't get recess and they have no time to socialize or makes friends. I think the teachers are too focused on the FCAT and they do too many work sheets to perpare the kids for taking this test. They don't learn any skills for dealing with real life.
Friendly, good teachers, slow to react to children with learning difficulties.
