This school is in desperate need of help in all aspects of their administration. Low funding from the county and the neighborhood,in addition to the fact that the majority of parents are of low income and do not speak english makes for a very difficult situation for the educators across the board. Those factors combined, in addition to many others, are not conducive to a healthy learning environment. Currently over 95% of the school is on reduced and/or free breakfast and/or lunch and qualify for head-start and after care and reduced rates, or at no cost to the parents. These facts only prove that the school is a D-F school, not because of the faculty, but because of the lack of funds desperatley needed by these children for the best education they can possibly get given their situations individually and as a community.
My son went to WJ Bryan for grade school. It was a great school, the teachers cared, the programs were all good.
Although W.J. Bryan ranks a 2 out of 5 for average class size, the overall quality of teaching and teachers leaves me no time to think about its ranking. I see much effort being put into improving the school and making it one of the best schools today.
They have a wonderful Gifted program. Many hands on field trips allow children the opportunity to learn about science, civics, etc. The staff is always helpful. Afterschool programs are available to prepare children for the FCAT as well as to help them with reading and writing. Great assistance for parents. Principal and assistant principals are always present and return calls on the same day. I wish more parent involvement was present, but due to economic situations, most parents work and are unable to help out with the school.
